Cronin accident

Unconfirmed comment in the last post about D/C Cronin being involved in a bad accident in the 016th District. Any info would be appreciated.

Also, any updates on Cmdr. Murphy can be posted here.

Joe is outof the halo brace, and has increased sensation in his legs; still in the wheel chair, and getting more and more strength in his hands and arms every day. Joe will probably be in the Rehab Institute until the middle of October.

What are the odds of two freshly promoted exempts being involved in serious auto accidents?

They way people drive now a days and little or no traffic enforcement I am surprised more department members aren't pushing wheel chairs with straws.

This city needs to bring back a true traffic enforcement unit.

Cronin admitted for observation. Nasty accident! He has a bad gash on top of head and his right ear is partially severed. No life threatening injuries! Doctors just want to keep an eye on him! The striking vehicle was a guy having an anurism. Lost control of his vehicle. No drugs or alcohol involved!

Cronin was expected to recover from his injuries. His ear was mangled and with a hit to the head the doctors wanted him to stay overnight

Any one has info on the 10/1 on 104th and Wenthworth Sunday morning. Murder scene, a police sgt. punched in face, watch commander told him he could not lock up offender because he was dead guys brother.

McMahon was the captain, more Pussification of the CPD.

Persons there said there was more than 100 persons on the street hooping and hollering. When the Area 2 guys arrived they asked the captain to push the crowd back. They didn't. Brother of the dead continously ran across the red tape and had to be pushed back.

Finally a dick from Area 2 called a 10-1 and P/O's from 022, of all places, showed up. He said at least they did something.

The captain wanted no one arrested and did not have the street cleared. The crime lab guys had to cut short the processing of the body and vehicle he was shot in because of the unruliness. This guy, on the job for many years, told me it was the saddest crime scene/crowd scene he ever saw.

The W/C (McMahon) refused to stand up and when an outside guy tried to lock someone up the W/C said no.

Well than A2, the Cime Lab, and all the PO's should have packed up and left. They want to act like animals they should be treated as such. As far as the W/C he is the new trend in the CPD, a pussy that doesnt care what the troops want or need but he is there to bend over backwards for the animal to keep the peace. CPD what a joke.

I was there from the all call 10/1.
006 and 22nd District secured 104th Street, at Wenthworth, they stopped throwing bottles. 005 five took the scene and 105th Street.

The 005th District was a disgrace, the Captain started yelling for the zone to send SOS. Not one of his Sgts. or Lt(1). took charge. All the Sgts. one f/2/@2m/4s stood in between the Red crime scene tape smoking leaving the troops to fend for themselves.

The crime lab asked the sgts. to move out of the inner perimeter and to pick up the cigareete butts before the lab took photos.

no one had a night stick, the Capt. grabbed a detective as he tried to mace a dog who tore down the yellow tape. The capt. then contaminated the crime scene by covering the car with white non sterile sheets. When the lab began filming the scene the dicks moved the sheets and the Capt. m/fxxx two detectives at the vehicle.

The dick watch commander called and asked for the street deputy to respond. The sad thing was the capt. stopped the first beat car who arrived and found the only witness. They wanted to tour the area with the witness and look for offender, but the Capt ordered them to stay at the scene. Guess what; the crowd surrounded the blue and white and saw the witness, screaming at him not to cooperate. The dicks asked for the witness to be immediately moved. Capt refused. The witness then refused to view a photo array of possible offender and asked for a lawyer at dick area.

The first cars from 005 did a good job. I was told a tac sgt. was hit in the face, and the capt. demanded he release the offender because he was afraid of the crowd. The capt. has shit in his blood, dicks requested two squadrols, one for the body, one to make arrests.

The dicks told me this morning they processed the body at the morgue, and the crime lab people were livid. I dont know if this is true, but the dicks said as the wagon tried to drive away a dude tried to enter the doors as the truck went northbound on Wenthworth. The dude was dragged along the street and the wagon strarted swerving to throw the mope of the door handles. I wish he would have struck his head on the pavement. This was the mope who punched the sgt. This sounds like a comedy, but I believe the facts I have just written, I was there, but couldnt see everthing that occurred because I believe there must have been two hundred police haters on the street. I will tell my grandchildren this story one day, I thought I was in Iraq. I wish I had a video camera.

God damn is this infuriating. I can't even imagine how far a number would go on the captain. The dumb motherfucker should be persona non grata for life from here on out. What an absolute disgrace.

Backing-down from mobs will only lead to more mobs and more injuries in the future.

Wow 11:59, you have a wild imagination.

First off, the scene never got to a 10-1 status. Even though an A/2 dick called one. A 10-1 is when a copper is getting his ass kicked.

Second, no bottles were being thrown.

Thirdly, no Sgt was punched in the face.

Fourth, no Sgts were smoking in the crime scene.

Fifth, the crowd was not screaming at the witness not to cooperate.

Sixth, the witness cooperated fully with the detectives.

Seventh, dude did run after the wagon as it drove away with dead guy. And although i like the part where he hung on and was being dragged, it never happened.

Yes, there were about 150 people out there. Maybe ten were unruly.
Yes, the 005th district could have done a better job of crowd control and getting the crowd off the sidewalk.
Yes, some loudmouths should have been placed into the back of a wagon.
Yes, the captain did try to cover the dead guy's truck with two unsterile sheets.

Beat 523 called the 10/1.

Witness would not identify guy in photo array, it was learned both knew each other.

A sgt. was punched or slapped.
No injury.

1)As far as the Cronin promotion: as I remember, Cronin has forgotten more about police work, and specifically about the west side, than most current po's know; having said that, his promotion from G/S to Cmdr., then to D/C, is an insult to every cop who ever gave his or her all in their career, who maybe didn't score well on a test, who maybe didn't have clout for a merit recommendation. If Cline is going to reward anyone who "worked hard", then we're going to have about a thousand exempts (excluding most of the present members);
2) I don't know about the 005th District situation, but I will say that there are but two choices in a street shooting:
a) secure the scene at all costs, whatever it takes, even it means bringing in wagons and cars from every district close enough (and arresting every SOB who dares to challenge the police) or....
2) walk away from the scene, concede another shooting/murder to the jungle mentality.....I mean, we get paid regardless, oftentimes it seems that we are the only ones who really care.

All things being equal, I respect any officer who made over 1,000 Part I felony arrests.

Have any officers, past or present, made over a thousand felony arrests?

Cronin having surgery today on his face. He is NOT released and it wasn't just for observation. He is listed as Fair condition. The 016th District had a car with him all day today. Only 2 CPD showed up today to see him/sit with him. One PO from OCD and one ADS. Nice HUH?
He could use your prayers, he has a long recovery ahead of him.

What's up with the missing copper from 021 who was later found? What's the story on that?

In order to make more than 1,000 career Index FELONY arrests, he would have spent most of the time as a veteran street copper in a high-crime district or more likely, a very active detective in property crimes or both.

Burglaries, vehicle thefts and other grand thefts account for roughly 80% of index crime in Chicago.

Nobody could come even close by just charging offenders with murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery and aggravated battery.

Nobody went to see Cronin because the teltype said no calls or visitors and I agree with the previous post....there are a lot of other hard working coppers that have long since retired that didn't get that big jump promotion twice...once again shows that clout rules

Since when does the department keep track of an Officer's part 1 felony arrests? Me thinks that the 1,000 figure was made up.

That's the whole point!

CPD mgmt. would never acknowledge that officers have made so many felony arrests.

Most observers could actually interpret such prolific numbers as TRUE merit--not political "merit".

I have personally made nearly 1,100 FELONY arrests with documentation.

Trust me on this. For purposes of advancement, it doesn't mean squat.

I am not Lukensmeyer or Cronin.

Part 1 and felony arrests are two different things. A rock pinch is a felony but not a part 1. A retail theft is a part 1 but not necessarily a felony. Part 1 AND felony arrests are burglary, agg. batt., homicide, etc.

While I wish D/C Cronin a speedy recovery and no ill will. I was talking a gang specialist who worked with Cronin back in Gangs West under Mc Carthy. Mc Carthy instituted the point systems for arrests and Cronin and his partner lead all of Gangs west in Disordely and pissers. Believe it or not thats not ONE THOUSAND FELONY ARRESTS.

Poor Lukie, IAD put a stolen police car in his yard. Why would they do such a thing. I heard because he made too much $$$$$ in overtime. He was on of the seven wonders of Chicago.

Anyone with access to a department computer can look up how many arrests they have made and if you print it out the last page has a funny little pie chart that divides up part I,II's & and misc arrests.
Oh and about lukie, some of the funniest police stories I have ever heard involve him.

Good for Cronin, but now the poor guy can't make any more arrests. I'm sure he was a fantastic cop but he got his job because he is Phil's buddy. Should a boss have been the police at some point????Yes!!!! Does a good cop make an automatic good boss??? There are good cops that are borderline retards, idiot savants if you will. I don't want them as a boss. If this guy was such boss material he would have passed a test at some point. Don't give me that poor test taker crap either. Sorry, but a big part of a bosses job is to be able to read and write. That is why they give a test. Did you ever meet "a bad test taker " who didn't think he deserved to be a boss?

I know of at least one since retired excellent "test taker" with well over 1,000 Part I FELONY arrests.

He never sought out "clout".
