Can we talk? Or is that Illegal?

Rant Warning Ahead.

Free speech for me, but not for thee? That is the attitude we seem to be gathering from the 1,800 hit day we had Wednesday. If you'll recall, someone linked us to "The Raw Story," a decidedly liberal website with a penchant for writing exaggerated headlines and (evidently) no sense of humor. Of course, liberals spawn more liberals and two other websites linked to us:
  • Tribe.net (Chicago edition) tries to get a thread started by calling us a "racist pig," but is quickly shot down by 3 or 4 responders who obviously DID read our postings and realize (A) it's not us posting the trash talk and (B) recognize sarcasm for what it is. If you want to get a feel for their site, look at the bottom of the site and see all the cities they operate in - Boston, LA, Miami, NYC, Philly, San Diego, SF Bay area - all real hotbeds of conservative thought, eh? And calling us a "racist pig?" Dude, get out of the 60's already. We prefer "Tools of the Oppressor" or "Agents of Government Suppression."
  • FlowFeel.com is another touchy-feely artsy type site that accuses us - let's make sure we have this correct - of "racism and ignorance," of being "a real dipshit," a "fool" who quoted Ann Coulter, and hopes that we are not really a cop(s). He ends with urging all his readers to contact the Police Department and Mayor's office as "stupidity" like ours shouldn't be tolerated.
Well golly, we thought this was America - Freedom of Speech and all that. If there is one thing we cannot stand, it's a politically correct mope who screams "racist" and "intolerant bigot" every time someone has an opinion that doesn't mesh with his. Hey hippies, sorry to burst your bubbles, but we are The Police; we haven't posted anything remotely racist or ignorant (we haven't even admitted to being white, black, red or brown, male, female, PO, supervisor, one person, two people or multiple personalities, so your charge of racism is, in essence, bullshit); we'd compare our curriculum vitae against yours any day and would bet money we've worked with more diverse people than you ever did; sorry you don't see the charm of Ann Coulter; and we think the mayor and superintendent have better things to do than forbid us from exercising our constitutionally protected rights to Free Speech off-duty and in our own home, like looming Federal indictments and climbing homicide rate (up 11 or 12 as of last night!) As neither of these sites accepts open commentary, we marvel at their ability to throw stones at us while avoiding dissent on their own sites.

IDEA FOR NEXT THREAD: LETS ASK EVERYBODY FOR THEIR TOP THREE BIGGEST DOG ASS COPPERS THAT THEY KNOW CITYWIDE. THOSE COPS THAT WOULD RATHER TAKE TIME DUE THAN MAKE AN ARREST AND GO THE OTHER WAY ON AN ASSIST P.O. CALL. THEN LETS COMPILE THE LIST AND SHOW THE RESULTS FOR THE TOP 10 OR 20 COPPERS AND POST THEM WITH NUMBER OF VOTES THEY RECEIVED.

No way is 020 as bad as it gets. I'm familiar with every district from back in the day not so long ago, and 020 was actually one of my favorites along with 013. 025 had the most goofs, 014 was the most demoralized, 006 was the most understaffed, 007 showed the most cameraderie, 011 was the youngest and dealt with the craziest, though 007 and 008 had the most mentals.

Nope, for old-school dogs, it was 003... from the top down. 022 used to be similar, but has supposedly gotten better since then.

What was the question again?

I'm just saying... things might have seemed bad in 020, but look no further than 024 for more whiners and dogs.

How about in 012? P.O. Pakula writing that ASA from 26th Street a DUI. Most of us would have driven a drunken ASA or copper home.

Dear "M" -

Start with the "best cops" first... start positive- then, if you must eventually give in at all... save the worst list for when it you really need it... when you get "blogger's block"... (were you the one who surrepticiously "HIJACKED" an open thread into that "worst boss" thread a while back to keep it on the "down-low"?...")

Anyway... Here's a best candidate: (at least try and give a BEST if you must give a WORST nomination!)

"MARKO"

("42nd Precinct")

The ASAs that we deal with every day don't have the authority to extend courtesy to cops who step in shit, only the bosses...

Just as WE don't have the authority to help cops when we step in shit.

Face it, if you do something so fucked up where you need an ASA's help, you've got bigger problems.

But giving someone a ride home rather than sticking it up their ass is a little different. You are bitter, go take your Prozac.

To bad they closed Ira's, he could have had a field day over there.

There probably is more to the story of Pakula writing an ASA a DUI. What I want to know is. Has he ever been on the south end of 12 on a Friday night. You are taking your life in your own hands driving in that neck of the woods. MAAD would have a field day

We are not a taxi service for saturday night drunks. Our business is to protect the public from those who cause it harm. So is hers. She failed. Not likely the first time. Like drunken coppers, drunken ASA's kill people.

God damn, how many people are we supposed to not DUI? Can somebody start a list?

The po-lice, unless they are an exempt?

The 200000 residents of Chicago who are related to the po-lice, unless they are only related to an exempt?

Taxpayers? ASAs and USAs? Federal law enforcement? Judges?

Oh, oh, I got it. Maybe just not whites, or blacks (depending on whether you are white or black).

Taxpayers? Non-immigrants? Hotties?

This is fucking insane. Whoever here is complaining about a DUI on a PO, or a PO's mom, or an ASA or whatever does not belong on this job. You want to give somebody a ride home? Fine.

This board has led me to one conclusion I had not previously reached. Its time to make every sworn officer in Chicago sign an affidavit that they will enforce the law impartially, without regard to gender, occupation, orientation, color, relationships OR ANY OTHER REASON. And if there is seriously more than one person here who keeps objecting to DUIs, I hope your whole fucking family gets run down by a drunk off-duty PO tonight. Well, not really.

But Karma is a bitch, and you should quit defending people who are too arrogant to obey the law. Kudos to anyone on this job for taking the time to process DUIs. I and the living members of my family thank you.

To all the coward DUI writers who r chiming in. F OFF!!!! The day any of the revenue creaters wrote a DUI because they were helping the community is bull. You Cowards write them to line your pockets!!! U can only serve one master and the almighty dollar is yours. I work citywide and every DUI writer is the same. A coward who never stops a car with more than one person in it. A coward never to be found when the working police call for an assist. A coward who won't take jobs because your on a special mission.

A final thought for the cowards. Do you have ESP? U don't know if you've ever saved somebodies life. For every DUI you get there r thousands more around you. If you cared so much about the community you could put the drunk in a cab and throw the ignition key in the sewer. They can't get in the car and you will be available in minutes instead of hours. When I was on the watch we would do this four or five times a night on some weekends. U can't do this if your lineing your pocket writing a DUI. I've now taken 5 drunks of the streets and you got 1. I think I just helped the citizens more than you did. U don't care about protecting the people. Look in the mirror and admit it.

I say this proudly and don't care if some people get upset. I won't back up a DUI writer. Justice will be served on the phonies one day!

6:40pm, drawing genralizations isn't the answer either...YES there are officers like that, traffic and traffic only. However, there are coppers that write them and do all the other things that are required... I've been involved involved in several fatals (at the district level) and I've made the decision to write them for my own reasons...But like someone said earlier just remember Gordon form 011, I'm sure his family has a appreciation for the arrests now..

10/22/2005 08:20:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Forgive me for asking but, was Gordon wearing his seatbelt? I only ask this because I don't remember. From what I remember his partner survived with what injuries I don't know. I highly doubt he would have been ejected had he been wearing it. The DUI driver wasn't the only cause of his death if he wasn't wearing his seatbelt.

When you read my post, I never stated to let drunks drivers go. I just said you don't have to DUI them. Some citizens out there do deserve the DUI. Not everybody though especailly decent working folks who went out for a celebration for getting promoted, getting a new job, or a rough day stopping shitheads on the street. We r given a thing called descretion.

Finally there r DUI writers out there in the Dists who do exactly what I stated. Its not just the traffic guys.

I can see your argument and can agree with some of it. I work my ass off, and I've done DUI's along with a lot of good work. The thing I can't agree with is " never back them up". Hopefully you were reffering to a DUI or b.s. traffic stop, paper etc. If you meant a 10-1 situation you are wrong. I don't like or respect a lot of cops. I would still back them up. Bottom line is we are all we got. I will not knowingly and willingly allow a fellow officer to get hurt needlessly, whether they are DUI kings, tru, whatever. I know most of thm would have my back.

I worked in 002 in the late 60's no partner, radio bolted to the dash board, no gates on landings, and a split zone in the district, and I still think that Pakula is an asshole. Oh by the way I worked in 011 when it was located at Fillmore, and Pulaski, and again I must say Pakula is an asshole.

>>So where is the danger?<<

Nice. First we get the "go to first watch in 011 to do real work instead of DUIs", despite a w/c and sgt. critically injured, and then Mike Gordon being our last KIA... all by DUI drivers. Now we get "where is the danger" in the projects in 002. Go ask Michael Ceriale.

I'm not defending Pakula wholesale, as I don't know him. I (and I think the others here) am merely saying that anybody who questions a police officer for performing his sworn duties should reconsider their choice of career if they are on the job. If you don't like policing, then you shouldn't be the police.

And the retorts here are homosexual references and completely ignorant statements about whether DUIs are worthy of the attention of a PO on 1st watch in 011, and now whether there was any danger in the 002 projects after the 1960s.

Its not surprise. This stupidity has existed since day 1 on this job. And it will continue to exist until we get rid of the corrupt political and clout systems which tolerates drunks and political hacks who not only fail to do their jobs, but who criticize those who do.

Seriously, I'd encourage you to say a prayer asking for the forgiveness of those whose names you dishonor with your statements.

The point I was trying to make is someone said that Pakula worked in 002, as if it was some scary place to work. By comparison 011 is far more dangerous. In fact I would say 011 is the last frontier. There is no safe district, afterall danger is associated with this job, unless you are a desk jockey.
Aside from Sgt. Jones getting shot while working the desk in 021 about 30 years ago, the desk is the only safe place for a police officer to work. So the fact that Pakula worked in 002 doesn't qualify him as some kind of tough guy in my book, I would like to see how long he could last in 011

LIBERALS READ THIS:

Get a badge and a gun and come work here in Chicago's fastest neighborhoods.

Get spit on!

Get mutherfucked for merely driving down a street!

Get into a fistacuff over a legal traffic stop!

Get beat up!

Get a bottle thrown at you!

Come lights and sirens to the rescue of a friend!

Listen to the radio screams of one of your mates getting SHOT at!

Do all of that THEN tell me I don't know what I know.

I've been stopped and ticketed for everything under the sun.

I knew my life changed when my best friend join the C.P.D. Whenever I drove past a traffic stop, I no longer looked for the driver feeling bad for him.

I looked for the police officer, to make sure he was ok. To make sure he was going home to his wife. To make sure no one was hurting him. I was still a civilian (and liberal), but I would have jumped out and punched and kicked and bite and claw and whatever I could.

Do all of that then come back this blog.

11:02, couldn't have said it better!

11:35, your insinuation that 011 is somehow worse, or more dangerous than anywhere else shows your complete lack of experience on this job. If you think the west side is crazy, try working the majority of the southside districts. You have a lot to learn.

All of you talking smack because someone wrote a DUI are complete pussies! First of all, you don't know the circumstances. Second, how many of you like to be second guessed by another copper who wasn't there?

I hope one of you pricks stops a DUI, let's him go and he then runs over someone and you end up getting fired and sued for everything you have!

Sounds like there may be a few here that need to get off of this blog and check out St. Michaels House!

I would rather a copper write 501's then make nickel bag or rock arrests any day. The only person the crack heads are hurting is themselves. Every Friday and Saturday night I have to drive home from the ghetto on special alert so I don't get smashed by some drunken idiot. I don't understand the stigma that surrounds writing 501's.

Whatever. Take your 2 year b.s. somewhere else. Your arrests consist of drinking on the public way and maybe a big pinch like a dime bag of weed. what do you do thats so great? Let me guess you make pimppy arrest so you can get into SOS?

Sounds like a lot of rookies that like to drink on this blog! I praise the dui writers. What are you solving by arresting some dude with a bag of weed? If your drunk, you cause an accident..... TOO BAD! pay the consequences! Just because your the police, don’t think your exempt from the law. It's people like this goofball on earlier posts that thinks he’s indestructible! Too bad, you drink and drive, TOO BAD grow up. How would you feel if your daughter or son was killed by a drunk copper? How would you feel if that drunk was stopped earlier by a police officer who locked his key in the car to ""get him off the road"" but only to have the spare key in his wallet kill your family member.

I agree with the 12:22 poster. There'd be hell to pay if a copper injured or killed one of my family members or friends.

I personaly know a P.O. who showed up to work drunk. The WC made him put in a slip, took his key and had a car drive him home. Guess what? That fool took a cab back to the station, with his spare key and took his car. So, you want me to feel sorry for somebody like that?

If you drink and drive, you deserve whatever happens to your stupid @ss. Why is it that so many of us think we're immune to laws when it comes to DUI's?

Take a cab, call someone to pick you up, drink in your neighborhood so you can walk your drunk butt home drink at home or better yet don't drink at all.

To the clown who called me a desk jockey, I'm not. Its hard to have made 183 arrests this year behind the desk. With only 3 of those being drinkers. How many have you made?

I don't wear my seatbelt either and would have been ejected just like Gordon. The only thing truthful you said is that its nearly impossible to be the working police with it on. It was wrong for me to say things might have been different if Gordon was wearing his seatbelt. Nobody should second guess a copper unless you were actually there.

To the ignorant morons who think dope only hurts the user. Remember who breaks into your car, burglarizes your house, sticks a gun in your face, and beat old ladies for change. Its not the DUI its the drug addict. I help people, not my pocket book. Go write a DUI to somebody who is at the legal limit after he had 3 drinks after work and pat yourself on the back. Another heinous criminal of the street minus thousands of dollars in legal costs. I'll go do another search warrant and get 3 guns.

3 guns or Working man? U make the call. I made mine years ago.

To whoever has a problem with desk personnel, some of us are on the desk on a bid by seniority, I did over 19 years on the street, all in busy districts and never worked the desk until I got it on a bid. Yes, it makes me ill when they put the kids (usually the females who are hot or connected) on the desk, but don't dis all of the house cats.

I'm a Sgt. in 007 and not a stickler for rules...but everyone on my watch wears a seatbelt. If it takes you 1/2 second to get your belt off and the bad guy gets away, too fuckin bad. At least when Junebug with no D/L, no insurance, high on weed and fleeing from a drive by hits you you will have a beter chance of making it home. If jumping in and out of the car is more important than making it home to your family you need to do some self examination. We drive for 8 hours a day with the worst drivers out there. You wouldn't come to work w/o a vest but the fact is far more cops get killed in crashes.

Do you even talk like this to anyone on the job? You'd be lynched on my watch for some of the things you've said here.

I have no problem with your hatred for addicts. I'd be in favor of America summarily executing junkies.

But don't lecture us about the working man. Gordon was a working man. So were the supervisors injured in the 90s. And then there are the kids killed in the south suburbs. They were coming home from work when our own drunken off-duty 2 year wonder killed them. You looking out for those working men?

Just under 40% of vehicular deaths in this country involve alchohol, and these victims are WAY more likely to be my family members than anyone killed by a gun or whatever in the ghetto. Nobody in my family is on welfare or any government program. You looking out for these working men?

Seriously, every time you write something you seem to put a foot deeper into your mouth. Just drop it and get help if you've got a drinking problem.

The young Deputy must have been in some kind of denial that he was really under attack. He should have taken out the gunman the second he saw him removing the gun from the truck.

Most officers who get shot don't think the situation they're in is real. It only takes a second or so of not reacting as trained to get your name on a tombstone.

Hey all you jag-offs who think its your duty to demand that seatbelts be worn ( especially that Sgt. in 007)!!! Fuck off!!! Im a grown man and if I decide I don't want to wear a seat belt for what ever reason it should be my decision! If I want to risk my life (what a joke) then so be it!!! I Don't see you lobbying to make smoking illegal, or to have the car industry only make cars that go 75 mph maximum ( since speed limit in this country doesnt exceeed 75 mph anywhere yet every car in production is cabale of exceedind 100 mph+). The seat belt law is a joke!!! Saving lives my ass. Its all about the mighty dollar. Just another law to generate revenue. Just like the speed limit laws that are 75 mph or less yet the government doesn't regulate how fast production cars can be capable of travelling. Most cars are already equipped with governors for top speed but for some reason that speed is always in excess of 100 mph (usually closer to 130). And why? So local governments can generate revenue through speeding tickets and General Motors can pitch that sales point about horse power and performance to generate sales. After all... who would buy a Corvette, Mustang, 300C, Charger, etc, etc if the top speed was 75 mph. Like the new cellphone law. When are we going to make a law that you cant talk to the passengers in your vehicle or that you cant listen to the radio. These things can be very distracting (laugh, laugh). Its all about generating revenue. On this job every second can make a difference. Especially that extra second or two it takes to undo that stupid seat belt when your exiting your vehicle when the shit hits the fan. So to that Sgt. in 007 I say... GO FUCK YOURSELF!!! We are all adults here and can make our own decisions regarding OUR saftey. If you want to be a babysitter go make inspector otherwise shut the fuck up and worry about things that matter!!!

If I'm prowling in a place like 007 or 011, I would NOT use the seat belts for obvious reasons. Reaction time is critical.

If I'm off-duty with my family on an Interstate and/or traveling at a higher speed in my personal auto, I would use the seat belt.

You can bet on one thing. The goof that started this seat belt stuff never worked the street in a fast district. And the nerve to second-guess Mike Gordon's death and write that doctrinaire bullshit about general orders.

The anonymous "Sgt. in 007" is an impostor. I work 007.

"HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU DOG ON A JOB SO SOMEOTHER COP HAD TO TAKE THAT JOB BECAUSE U WERE TIRED OF BEING THE "REAL" POLICE?" ETC, ETC.

I didn't used to wear my seat belt until I got T-boned, by another copper, going to a 10-1. SInce then, I wear it all the time.

Shame on those who don't wear it, simply to make it easier to jump out of the car. What are you going to tell your family when you're paralyzed from the neck down? "I'm an adult and I can do what I want?" Fine Mr. Adult, see if you can wipe your own @ss or blow your nose while you're in that wheelchair.

In the end, the only people ou hurt is your family and yourself.
