Free Advice for Candidates

Far be it for us to claim we have all the answers to blogging. We are far from experts at computers; we type slowly; we're minimally capable of writing code. But if we may say so, we do have a knack for self promotion, an opinion about damn near everything, and a willingness to listen to and respond to what our readers want to see. And you must like most of what you see as we blew past a quarter million total page views earlier (250,000!!).

So, in this spirit, we offer a little advice to our newest linked bloggers - the Pension Board candidates:
  • Get a blog or a website - yes, we're talking to you Steve Robbins. The FOP backing is an 800 pound gorilla in this fight. You've definitely got the inside track. But a blog/website gives you the ability to answer and rebut a lot of the accusations flying around out there. You can also expound upon the postcard that was sent out.
  • Update frequently. We usually post three items a day. Sometimes as many as six or seven. Granted, there's only so much you can say about an election. State your positions and defend them we suppose, but according to the date headers, John Tierney's site hasn't updated in 8 days now. The site is stale and so is the message.
  • Open comments. Yes, you'll have to police them occasionally to keep the BS to a minimum, but you can address accusations, solicit suggestions, maintain contact and dialogue.
  • Make something stand out, BUT stand out in a good way. Kevin Jans has changed site design at least once and now it's exactly like ours. Blogger has a couple of dozen site designs, but he must like ours. We guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Tierney's site is certainly eye catching, but it hurts our eyes - the font colors are very LOUD.
And please, DON'T just copy and paste your latest post into our comments section. It just takes up space and annoys our readers. You are welcome to jump into our thread and tell everyone you put up a new post and toss in a link to YOUR website. Thanks and Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips SCC. I gotta work on the colors a bit. I haven's written code in a while. New topics coming up. I did steal your idea for a counter and it's easy to use and pretty cool. Almost 800 hits so far.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WHITE SOX!

GO CHICAGO!

They can get a 70% turn out for a vote while voters are being blown up! Let's see how many police have enough energy to mail a ballot before the deadline. If we only get a 30% turnout the other 70% who don't vote are a disgrace!

Your absolutely right! I worked with this "bag of rocks" in 013.
Definetly not the sharpest knife in the drawer nor even close to being semi-honest. I wouldn't let him watch my kid's change from his/her's lemonade stand. Do you honestly think I would vote to have him anywhere near my pension! "Please"!

Funny, I worked with him on the Tact team 5 years ago before I left 013. A fine officer, does search warrants, conducts investigations and can also come in with the bullshit to fill the sheets. Not a foot man, or an ass kisser. Maybe a little rough around the edges but I would trust him to pull the trigger for me or anyone on the street.

OK YOU WOULD TRUST HIM TO PULL THE TRIGGER BUT WOULD YOU TRUST HIM TO HANDLE YOUR FINANCES?

Who really is going to do the best job?

Look at their track records. TIERNEY is in it for himself. ROBBINS reeks of FOP cronism. JANZ at least is trying to do something. Don't know the other guy.

Guys are going to vote for who they know or who they are told to vote for by people they know or drink with. Policemen are lemmings and dont; give a rat's ass what is being done by the F.O.P. on, I mean against, their behalf.

YOU COULD SCREAM AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS, PROVIDE RECORDS AND PHOTOS OF THEM STEALING, WITNESS THEM LYING... AND STILL THE PO WILL VOTE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF "THE DINEEN" SYSTEM.

Survive till retirement, screw the F.O.P., and live longer.

SO ANYONE WHO RUNS FOR AN OFFICE IS IN IT FOR THEMSELF?
BullS%^$! Some of us have real issues and I'm one of them. What are you doing in 2013? No Benefits! I'm gonna end up working another 20 to keep MY kids insured! Will the pension be there? I hope so! $3 mil deficit last qtr. Can it last. I'm in for the long haul, It's 1 vote out of 8. It is what it is! I'm here, I'm working, I have a family who depends on me.
THESE ARE THE ISSUES!
Who invests our $
How much does it cost us?
Why are we underfunded?
What r the commisions?
Are we getting proper returns?
THESE ARE THE ISSUES!
