You Gotta Love the Irony

News from the War on Terror:
  • News out of Iraq. Seems British "journalist" Rory Carroll, who recently published this little article accusing the US military of being out of control and systematically targeting and assassinating members of the media, has himself been kidnapped by those peaceful, muslim non-extremist patriots fighting the "Great Satan." We'll bet money that if they keep him alive for more than a few days, he'll be begging to have an "out of control" US patrol target his captors and rescue his sorry butt.
  • Spain issues arrest warrants for three US soldiers who fired a tank round into a hotel from which they were taking fire, killing a Spanish reporter and a Ukrainian cameraman. Let's see - (problem #1) two dead reporters in the middle of a war zone who were in a hotel used as cover by irregular army troops, (answer #1) try to arrest US soldiers. (Problem #2) 200+ citizens slaughtered on commuter trains, (answer #2) vote out the government fighting terror, install a socialist regime, withdraw troops from Iraq, kiss osama's ass. Someone better alert NORAD. Spain might invade. Hahahaha

Kind of reminds me of this job.Damned if you do,damned if you don't.They knew the risks.I'm not a fan of Bush or this war,but this is war.If the time ever comes when a U.S.serviceman has to justify defending himself or killing the enemy,We might as well roll over and play dead while kissing Al Sadr's A**.Since we're in it,We might as well be in it to win it.The same thing applies to our situation here.If the time ever comes when I'm unable to use deadly force to defend myself,my partner,or a citizen,You can have this star.(I'm keeping the gun!!)And then you might as well give the mopes the key to the city

Dear SCC,
you say socialist like it is a bad thing. If we had a Socialist government there never would have been a 9/11; Americans held hostage for 444 days in Iran, and mass murder of the soldiers in Lebanon.

actually, it was exactly because we had a socialist government under jimmy carter that everything happened.

Limpdickisthebset is right. It's a well known fact that the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics never dallied in middle east politics, except for every nation outside of Israel.

6:31 - right on! Everything (the major media, politics, the Department) are "reactive" - not "proactive." It's maddening to see this department and the bosses playing armchair quarterback.

re: Rory Carroll - I'll bet this reporter is telling his captors "I've been on your side the whole time! Just look at the stories I've written."
I've only seen one beheading video due to the fact that they're very disturbing and, I see enough disturbing stuff on this job already.
But I will gladly download the one showing this guy getting his head lifted into the air with the cries of "allah-u-akbar!" He richly deserves it.

Socialism will never work because it doesn't take human nature into account. There are too many variables that can never be accounted for - that is why freemarket economies flourish and socialist ones, typically, struggle. It can never provide an equal playing field for everyone. It's naive to believe otherwise.

Chicago once had one hell of a detective squad, and many considered the CPD crime lab one of the best. That is no longer the case. The D unit is full of pretenders with phone calls and the crime lab was given to the state. So, question, is there any unit, division, subsection, squad, detail, team, program...anything that is considered " the best". Something so good that other agencies want to steal our great idea? I say no, there is nothing here at CPD that anyone wants to emulate. This is sad. We are the second largest police force in the worlds greatest country, and we have nothing to offer. I know CPD has some great officers, few of whom are properly deployed, or listened to. The FTO program is one of the more glaring examples. We do hold some distinctions though, we are the oldest PD, the most obese, have the worst cars, poorest training, most corrupt promotion system, most inadequate service weapon options, etc etc

Carroll 'freed by Sadr City residents'
20/10/2005 - 21:08:20

Kidnapped Guardian reporter Rory Carroll was freed by Iraqis tonight, a day after he was snatched, a person involved in winning his release said.

The Guardian newspaper confirmed from London that Rory Carroll was released unharmed.

A resident of Baghdad’s Sadr City neighbourhood said he was sitting next to the 33-year-old Carroll tonight after his release.

The resident, who did not wish to be named, said Carroll was kidnapped by criminals and that a group of Sadr City residents raided the area in which he was held and freed him.

His account of the release could not be confirmed.

Carroll was on assignment for The Guardian when he was kidnapped Wednesday in Baghdad.

The Guardian’s website quoted Carroll’s father Joe as saying he had spoken to Carroll tonight.

“He told me that he had been released, that he was perfectly OK and in an Iraqi government compound having a beer," Mr Carroll said.

“He just said: ‘I am safe and well and I have all my limbs on. I was in my cell and representatives of the Iraqi government came for me, they had a government car waiting. I have been in Baghdad all the time’."

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern said: "I am utterly delighted for Rory Carroll and his family.

“The thoughts of all the Irish people were with them at this most difficult and anxious time.

“The Government is deeply grateful to all who helped achieve this happy outcome.

“In particular we have maintained the closest contact with a number of friends and partners, whose cooperation, both in their capitals and on the ground in Baghdad, has been quite outstanding,” Mr Ahern said.

Cop charged with teen's hit-run death

By Jeff Coen and David Heinzmann
Tribune staff reporters

October 20, 2005, 1:32 PM CDT

Bond was set at $300,000 today for a Chicago police officer charged with reckless homicide in a hit-and-run accident that took the life of a Morgan Park High School student.

Charlton McKay was in custody pending a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 10 by Cook County Judge Kevin Sheehan.

McKay also has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and filing a false police report, according to Tom Stanton, spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.

An officer since 1996, McKay was stripped of his police powers after he became the focus of the investigation in the days after the death last month of Edward Lucas, 15.

Authorities this week interviewed witnesses in an attempt to place McKay at the scene, and said tests had been performed on a Cadillac that was found near the accident site and is registered to the Calumet District officer. The car had been reported stolen.

Investigators said they also have examined McKay's telephone records from the night in question in an attempt to determine his movements.

Lucas was captain of Morgan Park's sophomore basketball team and had dreamed of becoming an NBA player.

He was walking from a friend's house to his home in the 10000 block of South Esmond Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 22 when a Cadillac drove though a stop sign at 109th Street and Vincennes Avenue and hit the youth, investigators have said.

The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn, where he died as a result of his injuries.

Think deeper.

Here is a synopsis so far:

* journalist is anti-US

* journalist is kiddnapped by "bad" Iraqis.

* journalist is rescued by "good" Iraqis.

Quoted from above: "The resident, who did not wish to be named, said Carroll was kidnapped by criminals and that a group of Sadr City residents raided the area in which he was held and freed him."

Ok, so The 'resident' claims the 'bad' Iraqis are just 'criminals'. So in offering up his life and limb he stages a valiant and sucessful resuce operation to save this victimized British Journalist. But this 'resident' wont give his name to the reporter because he is afraid of retribution?? HE LIVES THERE! What does he think is going to happen??

Sounds like a made up story, or a staged incident and Spec Ops 'saved' his ass for a price (keeping his mouth shut!)

That would never happen right?
