A Good Idea But ...

Someone suggested that we need a little more positive spin on things here. Too much bitching and moaning about certain districts and the abilities of certain officers.

What a GREAT idea! However...

We couldn't keep people on subject when we tried to share a little joy during the White Sox run to the Series. Or when we posted about the ACLU and it deteriorated into a spelling bee. Or half a dozen other instances that occur on a daily basis. If we tried to do a "Best FTO" thread or a "Best All Around Copper" thread, it'd fall apart within 5 hours. Even the "Best Bosses" thread had it's share of rip jobs on the first day.

Trolling for positive compliments by naming districts and units would, in our mind, be tempting some of our readers to be less than charitable. Anyone have an idea on how to pull it off?

screw that...
just kidding.

Honestly the only way you will force people to "play nice" would be to force registration with a confirmed email. This, of course, is a BAD idea- as it could be used to trace identities (although with enough time the IP could be used in some instances) and would at best lead to a chilling effect on the frank nature of the discussions that make this blog so much fun to read...

i think you should start a thread for each district or unit, so all the complaints can be kept on those appropriate threads. then maybe we can keep to the topic of the thread that are being invaded with the complaints about the districts, bosses, etc.

read this another thread felt it was worth repeating:

S.C.C.

I originally posted this in the Eurabian string. Sorry for the repeat, but posting it again here seems apt.

As I review the various strings, I recognize that there are many bloggers eager to talk about the 009th District. Rather than see 009 related posts pop up in multiple strings, how about giving them their own.

In fact, there are probably bloggers from many districts (or even units) that would like to discuss their own issues and peculiarities. How about a "Unit of the Week" string devoted to a different district/unit each week. It may help contributors stay on topic.

... just a suggestion.

whatever day of the month is, let it be that unit for the day (ex. Nov 08, 008 Nov 09, 009....)and so on untill every dist has had its day, then start with the units in numeric order from FOP book. 044, 045, 050 untill they are all done. this way everyone has a chance to bitch about their unit. I am sure we all want to hear stories from some of these units!! AND NO WASHINGTON DC STORIES PLEASE!!!

Oh, it's gonna get negative - no question there. Such is the nature of police and, thus far, this blog.

After all, why should a district string be different from any other string? Currently, there is no district string, but that hasn't stopped negative banter about the 016th District in almost every string over the past month.

It can't be stopped. Perhaps, however, it can be confined to a fixed number of strings.

And, as always, we'll rely on your judgment in monitoring and censoring inappropriate posts. By all measures, you, S.C.C., seemingly, have been judicious thus far in such decisions.

Carry on.

I think that's what this Dept. wants in 008 and 016, any other districts like them. is this. We do the police work off duty. Property taxes ? Don't matter. Our mayor is white. Got's to kiss minority asses. Where's our city alderthings on this issue ? Probably some three way circle fuck with the f.o.p. and the mayor. If you p/o's in 008 or 016 get criticized by our good citizens for a slow response, tell them the true reason. Not enough police. Have them contact their alderthing. Be safe.

Heres some good news I just saw on television. A Sergeant in, I believe 002, rescued a women who had been carjacked and then stuffed in the trunk of her car. The thugs then rode around hitting ATM's trying to get money out of her account. The Sgt. see's them going the wrong way on a one way street, attempts to stop them at which time they bail out and flee. She's in the trunk, starts pounding on the interior, he hears her, opens the trunk and presto, there she is. She's convinced that they were going to kill her and if not for the Sgt. she would be dead. She refers to the sarge as her "Angel". Nice job, way to go Sarge! I know this story breaks with tradition here on this site in that I'm not attacking other Police Officers or whining about something, but I firgured some of you would like it and be proud.

Why is it that we are so short on "Crime Lab" personel and equipment? Shouldn't a city of this size, with this many violent crimes on a daily basis have a better system in place for processing crime scenes? No offense intended to the officers who do that job, but shouldn't crime scene processing be made a much bigger priorty?

I've never had the Crime Lab respond in under an hour, and that really does make things tense on the street! There just doesn't seem to be anywhere near the proper staffing for that important position. I'd bet they'd get a lot more clear ups in the D-Unit with more and better trained crime scene processing personel, with the proper equipment!

Stay safe out there.

How about 4 teams then because we really don't need one for Area 3 or Central Control so why not 4 teams? That way the Areas that need the services of the Crimelab most,(Areas 1,2 4 and 5 ) won't have to wait long for the lab. On those RARE occasions when something does happen in A/3 or Central Control then somebody will have to wait for the Crimelab.Unfuckingbelieveable!
