Remember When?

We were just cleaning out some old paperwork and ran across the old city proposal from the year 2000 whereby if you worked for 5 years in a "fast" district (002, 007, 010 and 011 were designated) you would be given $1,000 and first shot at specialized units.

Five years is up this year. Does anyone know if:
  • (A) the proposal was ever instituted,
  • (B) if so, has anyone heard about getting their $1,000,
  • (C) and has anyone gotten their super-special bid forms so they can get right over to School Patrol (defunct), Housing (mostly defunct), Marine (no test given lately), Mounted (no test given lately), Canine (no test given lately), Helicopter Unit (all phone calls), Vice (more phone calls), SOS (even more phone calls), Airport (all phone calls) or TRU (Hey! We'll take anybody)?

excellent question....I don't think anyone has received the money (yet), and its interesting that some of the units supposedly open to those serving in "fast" districts are open only to phone calls. This is an issue it seems that the FOP should be on top of....

Didn't the department decide to designate "training" districts after this "fast-district = money" proposal? I thought it did, but my mind is going on me. But if I am right, then the fast=training districts hardly ever have openings because of the amount of recruits that they take in. I don't see how these two programs could exist together.

First of all I work in the 4th dist and that was one of the designated fast districts. When the "sign-up" for this program came I believe I was on furlough and missed the date or it was never really mentioned after I came back. We were told if we stayed there for 5 years we would receive $1000.00 and the ability to bid to "certin" special units and have prefernce over others who were not from these districts. The department required the member to reregister ever year. Well the long and short of it is I have worked in 004 since before the program started and I somehow missed signing up. I have recently heard from other guys in 004 who were wondering when they were going to be paid. My question is are these guys out the money if they missed an update and why the hell did we have to sign up at all where do they think I was the last 5 years. So after working in these garden spots of the city for 260 weeks (52x5), and if i filled out the proper paperwork I'm rewarded with a little over $3.00 a week and if there are any opening in certin special units I get prefential treatment. If you remember this was at a time when the media were complaining about how young these fast districts are and what incentives could be used to keep people there. I viewd the program as a joke and I think I might be right.

I worked in 011 until 2003 - ten long years - I don't recall any "sign-up" - after all, don't A & A's reflect who is at work everyday? Why sign up when you work there??

REGARDING THE ORIGINAL POST, DON'T THINK 010 AND 011 WERE SOME OF THE DISTRICTS. THE ONES ON TE LIST WERE 006, 007, 002 ... DISTRICTS THAT WERE / ARE HIGH CRIME AND SHITTY BOSSES. THAT, AT THE TIME, EXCLUDED 010 AND 011.

That's because there hasn't been a BIG shortage of manpower in those districts. Bids open up-PO's bid in. The southside districts lose a lot of PO's because of the cunt bosses. Y'all know who I mean.
