Time and a Half?

We're up late here (or early) and now we are getting word that certain units are being permitted to work on their days off in DOC areas at TIME AND A HALF, with no regard to seniority whatsoever? All that is required is that you be Regular Day Off Friday or Saturday.

Who has details on this?

We remember there used to be a "PRIDE" car up in 011 on certain days, but it was straight time and this seems new. And why only certain units? Why not make it like Special Employment if you're paying time and a half? Christmas is coming and we'd like to get a piece of this action. We need info people!

Don’t be a fool. The rumor spreading and believing is out of control here. I tell you that more 90% of what is posted here are half-truths. The worst kind of lie or rumor is one that is made up of a lot of fact.

Anyway, the TRUTH is that you can put in a special employment form to work your days off. IT IS BASED ON SENORITY. Sgt's D1, D2 and D2A's can apply.

This may be the first and last post that is based on fact. I can’t stand reading all this anymore and will no longer be reading this blog. I am a high-ranking member of the Department and it makes me sick to read all the comments that are being made against our fellow law enforcement officers and the bickering between us.

Having been on the job for a while I have lost people who were close to me who were killed by the scum of society. I have seen many more seriously injured. Let me leave you with this: WE ONLY HAVE OURSELVES TO RELY ON. STOP BRINGING EACH OTHER AND THE DEPARTMENT DOWN BECAUSE OF A BAD EXPERIENCE OR MISINFORMATION.

There is a teletype out, came out Saturday authorizing "Special Employment" on Friday and Sat. nights from 2000-0430 hrs. You report to, IIRC, Homan Ave. for assignment anywhere in the City. It's designed to supplement District operations. I didn't see anything about the pay structure.

So.....basically, the City has finally admitted that it's short a lot of police officers. How about hiring some then? And I don't mean those teeny little classes they have from time to time. I mean some REAL hiring to get us up to full strength.

Hmmmm?? Richie? Are you listening????

This is the high-ranking officer again. I could not leave out one more thing: I'm going to be promoting my tubby, balding son to Lieutenant soon and using the 30% to promote all of my cronies and appease little king richie.

But let's not turn on each other, okay.

We arent bringing the department down. The politicians are. As for special employment being by seniority, give me a break. Only seniority on this job is who's been kissing ass longer.

No Lie ..... I know the tact team in the 009th Dist had Friday (a HOLIDAY) RDO cancelled due to the increase of shootings. They all were patting themselves on their backs because they told everyone they got triple time. I also heard that the impound unit AKA: TRU also had their days of cancelled on Friday.

Before you sign up for this "Special Employment" you better check it out. What's the pay scale? Are we going to be covered completely by the union contract (for what little it's worth)?

Not to mention that the inspectors now have a whole new group of people to harass.

As for those who are worried about seniority. Not to worry. The "Hard charger" won't give up working CTA Special. Give up locking up turnstile jumpers and people eating on the train? This wouldn't be exciting enough for them.

With this, your restricted to a certain area in a district and you can't go any further than 8 blocks to eat. No travelling to 018 to dine on steak, pal. It's rib tips, pizza puffs, tacos and fries for you.

It sounds like great plant to me. You get to work Friday & Saturday night from 8pm to 4:30pm. You get straight time. And best of all you get to go work in ghetto district you left 10 years ago with 2 year, one bag wonders. Then you can read on here the next day that you are a dog and not the real police. All that and $35 an hour too? Sign me up.

I worked in the 011th district back in the day when we had the "Pride" car. You wouldn't believe the do-nothings that would sign up to work - the lock-up keepers, the desk bitches - you would never - ever - see these idiots out on the street working a regular beat car!

weekend s/e at time and a half ? where is the money coming from? I mean, wouldn't it be better if the CPD was fully staffed, but.....if the city leaves CPD positions open (i.e., not filled, unpaid), then pays existing officers time and a half to work, doesn't the city save money in the long run (salaries, pension contributions, etc.)? Hello, FOP? anyone do a study on this?

I don't think it really costs the city all that much more.

Voluntary OT availability increases morale.

No add'l training req'd for existing volunteers.

If the needed hours are 2000-0430, no need to double people up on 3rd watch during quiet 1500-1900 hours, and no need to double people up on 1st watch during quiet 0400-0800 hours. Personally, I'd think at 1900 to 0300ish watch would get a better bang for the buck, but whatever.

Not only that, but no amortized risks associated with hiring new POs. No 10% losses for medical abusers w/in 5 years. No having to hire someone for 40 hours a week, when you only want them for just the 16 where this is available.

And so on and so on.

Which is to say, this is the first good idea I've seen the department bring out in awhile. Makes sense on many levels and for many reasons. Hell, if it were up to me, I'd accept 500 officers on most any friday or saturday night when its forecasted to be warmer than 50 degrees. And I'd put em all no further than 4 blocks from the borders of 007 and 011.

This makes so much sense that I'd be SHOCKED if it was the brainchild of any exempt.

You are right! Do people think this idea just spung up overnight? They run these numbers backward and forward before they approve something like this. Why do you think they have been letting our numbers atrophy to around 9000.To afford this plan? yes, but they wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't cheaper in the long run. This thing fits in with the whole "targeted response approach" of the department.
