Fry Tookie

Seldom, if ever, does the LA Times get anything right.

They did this time though.

UPDATE: 2030 hours: Steve at HogOnIce thinks Arnold might be about to commute Tookie's sentence to life in prison. We sure hope not.

I really hope he gets it soon. However, if the people in Hollywood get their way (and they usually do), it probably won't happen. Isn't California great?!?!

Take your needle like a man, Tookie.

Fo' shizzle, my neezle, my Crip brotha.

Why didn't you opt for the gas chamber, homes?

So you murdered four innocents in cold blood. Your "children's books" trump the lives of four robbery victims.

Let the Tuesday countdown begin...

Aside from the State of Nebraska (electric chair), all the death penalty states give the condemned (the choice of) the needle.

Ain't nobody gonna "fry" anymore.

No lubrication for Tookie's anal plug.

The Rev. Jackson is on his soapbox again calling on the California "Governator" to spare Tookie. Jessie calls capital punishment wrong. If I were the governor I'd agree with him and say with a straight face "You're right Rev. I tell you what, starting WEDNESDAY I'll sign an executive order ending the practice."

Then I'd go to the store and buy all the Tookie books I could find, they'll soon be collectors items. After he's dead, I'll sell them on e-bay to all the liberals at 10 times there face value! Isn't capitalism great?!

Much like in the case of cop killer Mumia Abu Jamal, the left has chosen one of the worst possible poster boys to rally against the death penalty with. Neither Wesley Cook (Mumia) nor Stanley Williams (Tookie) have ever taken responsibility for their unforgiveable crimes. Both have profited in fame and influence. Cook to this day will insult Philly P.O.Danny Faulkner's widdow. I don't have to argue the case to the board but regardless of how you feel about the death penalty these 2 are about the worst possible choices to change anyones mind.

A certain group of people is not supposed to be held responsible for any of their actions.
Point 1. Even if Tookie has made a complete turn around, which he hasn't that doesn't erase the crimes he committed. Not even these liberal pricks can doubt his guilt.
Point 2. If I was facing my own death, I too would do whatever it took to save my ass. Amazing he was such a har brotha' when he was on giving end of death.
Point 3. Who is this guy a great role model for? I think the black community has some better role models than a convicted killer who is indirectly responsible for hundreds more deaths as the founder of the Crips.

This would give LA crips a chance to show how much of a positive force they can be.

For a host of reasons which I will not recite here, I am opposed to the death penalty. The burden of this position includes having to advocate sparing the life of garbage like Tookie, one so deserving of demise.

Rather than execution, how about a life of hired prison labor (not writing children's books) with no opportunity for celebrity or recognition. The profits of this endeavor would go to the victim's family. No TV, weightlifting, or basketball in the courtyard.

Yet, my gut tells me the crimes of Tookie and most others on death row warrant the needle.

Does anyone else suffer from such conflicting views?

Sincerely,

Conflicted Conservative

Dear Conflicted Conservative:

I think the death penalty is an appropriate punishment for the ultimate crime - MURDER.

Unfortunately, there is no way to make someone whole should someone be put to death by mistake.

Life in solitary confinement is the only option. Give em TV, give em radio, let them exercise in the yard for a couple of hours every other day, but other than that, leave em locked up by themselves. I know its an expense but in the long run, cheaper than the appeals process.

If they do anything to make a $, it goes to the victims.

Only problem, you cannot control what the legislature of the future will do. Some assholes 20, 30 years from now may say life in prison in solitary is cruel, and a change of the law will be done and the garbage will be out on the street.

What to do then? I don't have an answer I'm afraid, but as far as Tookie goes.....let him take the big sleep. How much blood is on his hands with his piece of shit gang? More than just the ones he was convicted of killing. Bye Bye Tookie....go to sleep and good riddance.

Statistics show that people who commit violent crimes are most likely (basically "almost certain")to commit them within a given age range that is something like up to 45 or 55.

In a perfect world, I'd be opposed to a death penalty because I believe in the culture of life (Catholic, pro-life). But in our imperfect world, I'm in favor of using the death penalty more (i.e,. against all murderers).

Nevertheless, I'm troubled about the disparaties in our system. The stats that say you are four times more likely to get death as a black man for murdering a white woman than as a white man for killing a black woman. Or the Texas "defense" attorney who holds the worlds record for getting his clients put on death row (the guy is now disbarred, and was allegedly drunk during half his hearings).

Which is all to say, I'm mixed on it. If we are going to apply it, than apply it to everyone, but fairly.

Back to my original point. If there is ever a compromise to get rid of the death penalty, it should involve a rule that says "no parole whatsoever, EVER" until criminals are outside of the 95% band (age range) where they are likely to commit murders. In other words, we should never release murderers until they are 55 or whatever. For Illinois, even this would be a start in the right direction. We've got too many ex-cons out on the street in their 30's and 40's though they were convicted for killing people in cold blood. That is just ridiculous.

Thousands of citizens have been murdered by members of his gang under his leadership. If anyone deserves to be permanently removed from society its tookie.

I'm all for the death penalty. However we are a society that is supposed to be compassionate and forgiving. I remember the night that Gacy was executed and there were people cheering as I listened on the radio. I'm a conservative, yet I felt it was cruel and in humane to have a man on death row having to know the date and hour of his death years after he was found guilty. Thats barbaric and inhumane and is a crime of a society with a social concience. The problem is the appeals process. I think you should be executed after 1 appeal the moment that it is denied. If you dont appeal in 3 months they walk in and shoot you on the spot or the family member's should be given the right to decide how you die. After all you decided how their family member died and it's more personal for them. As a Catholic I feel its wrong to harbor such hatred for years then act on it. A swift and immediate "your guilty, death is the penalty, BOOM!" is something I could acccept much easier. Liberals are right about the death penalty being wrong because the process to recieve it is wrong.

uhhhh....much like many people might think it strange that you found John Wayne Gacy's treatment "cruel and in humane" I find it strange that those who oppose the death penalty choose this evil, evil, evil person as the reason to support their cause. Bizzare.

Subject: FOP Lodge #5 PRESS RELEASE

Fraternal Order of Police

Lodge #5

PRESS RELEASE

On behalf of the Police Officers of F.O.P. Lodge #5, Philadelphia along with our brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement throughout the country, we are outraged, shocked, and dismayed to learn that the third Circuit Court of appeals would consider that Convicted Cop Killer Mumia Abu Jamal should get a new trial.

The facts of the case that convicted the cowardly acts of Mumia Abu Jamal on the December 09th, 1981 murder of Police Officer Danny Faulkner are still the same 24 years later.

The facts of the case have and always have been clear, concise, and overwhelming. - - consider the following:

Police arrived within moments after the incident and found Mumia Jamal sitting on the curb, wounded and only a short distance from the dead officer.

Officer Faulkner's spent bullet was found in the attackers' chest.

The attacker, Mumia Abu Jamal, was wearing a shoulder holster.

Mumia Abu Jamal's gun was registered to him, in his name.

The attackers' gun was found near him with five spent shells, two of which were in the body of the deceased Officer.

In addition to a spontaneous statement, in which Mumia Jamal stated he shot the officer, three (3) eyewitnesses positively identified Mumia Abu Jamal as the shooter at the scene of the murder.

One eyewitness stated she saw the officer shot in the back by Mumia Abu Jamal.

Another eyewitness testified he never lost sight of the defendant (Jamal), from the time he shot the officer, until police placed him in custody.

Still another eyewitness testified he was so close to the shooting of the Police Officer, that the witness could see the officer's body jerk- "his whole body jerked when he was shot in the face."

The jury, multiracial in it is making up, was chosen with Mumia Jamal's personal participation and found the evidence against him to be overwhelming. To that end, the jury, not the Judge, voted unanimously to convict Mumia Abu Jamal of First Degree Murder and imposed the death penalty because he executed Officer Faulkner in cold blood.

Mumia Abu Jamal has had numerous legal appeals through the court system including the Commonwealth Court, Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and our highest court in the land, The United States Supreme Court. His convictions were upheld at every level.

This entire appeal is ridiculous. It is a smack in the face to not only the entire legal process, but to Danny Faulkner's family. How much suffering must they endure?

Enough is Enough!

Danny Faulkner is dead. He can no longer Love, Laugh or have a family - He had no appeals!

Submitted by Jim Wheeler - FOP Vice-President
