Let the Punishment Fit the Crime

A former aldercreature is attempting to get his law license back despite having:
  • picked up biweekly paychecks while working as a ghost payroller for three City Council committees
  • earn[ed] more than $100,000 per year as an attorney.
  • served five months in prison and repaid the city $91,000 in wages and benefits. He was voluntarily disbarred in 1998.
First of all, if you pick up a city check for 7 years without doing a lick of work, you ought to be fired (and spare us the jokes about Streets & San, Dept of Trans, Park District, certain coppers, etc). If you're earning over $100,000 dollars a year AND still nickel and diming the taxpayer, you ought to be up against the wall and shot.

This is hubris. This is greed run amok. Five months isn't NEARLY enough time for this jackass to have spent behind bars. And paying back $91,000 isn't nearly what he should have been fined.

Tell you what - he spends 7 years digging ditches, or 7 years working retail, or 7 years actually EARNING a living, we'll think about letting him have his law license back. And we don't give a rat's ass if he's 60 years old today - better men than he (and trust us, there are billions of better men than he) have re-entered the workforce at his age. When we were in the private sector, we were lucky to see $100,000 over three years. And this ass earned that plus what he could steal? Sorry - no sympathy here.

SCC:

and you want the city to take us seriously...

i know that a large number of chicago politicians have been sent to club fed. but, there are people on our side that just happen to be politicians. name calling only weakens our arguments. by using the term ader-creatures, puts you on the same page as those who claim that all police are crooks(the sites are aplenty). there are enough people who hate us, why make more?

Screw the politicians..How about Larry Bloom (the supposed conscience of the city council)? He screwed a black disabled vietnam veteran out of his home that was paid off, because of some clerical error over a few thousand in back taxes.(Where was Rev. Jackson? He don't care about the little guy either) Now he has a home worth about a 1/2 million bucks in the rapidly appreciating bronzeville/gap area where all the old mansions are being rehabbed. I read an article in the newspaper about it last year. When asked about it all he could say was, in essence, It was all legal.

Legal perhaps..Ethical, HELL NO!

I would say a good majority of the Lawyers suck!

Large number? Try 50% conviction rate over the past 20 years - not 50% of those tried went to jail - 50% of those serving went to jail.

And the word "aldercreatures" is actually homage to the late Mike Royko - we claim no rights to it. Royko coined it to describe those who walked among men but were not actually members of the human race. We believe "leeches" was one of the more family friendly terms he used.

And as a poster below you said, what have the aldercreatures done for us lately? We haven't seen any stand up and say the police deserve a raise, deserve better health care, deserve to have the mayor and his people stop sicking it in their asses every time a "contract interpretation" comes up. We haven't even seen any aldrecreatures say that the city discontinuing health care for all retirees in 2013 is a bad idea.

But we'll bet the aldercreatures still get their health care paid for - pending another felony conviction.

Why oh why must we have the alder-persons in office for so long? I would like to propose a referendum that limits the time in office of the mayor and his alder-people. We limit our president to a term of eight years for good reason. Since corruption runs the city, take away their power - vote these people out of their offices!!!

It is wrong to let a criminal, ok he is an ex con, to have a law license. He should do what others have done, wash cars, be a fry cook, or if he is popular like the ex con Rosti, become a political consultant. A lawyer no.

If they reinstate his license, then every copper who served time should have his right to carry reinstated and be allowed back on the job.

SCC, I like alderweasel better, except that it may be an insult to weasels.

016 again detailing 2 cars to 025 for the tour!

Is this a contract violation?
If it's a detail it should be done on seniority or reverse seniority?
