Airhart Shooter Gets Life

Couple of Quick Hits to amuse everyone while we work on fixing our computer (no, we still aren't using a Department computer - do you think we're nuts?):
  • Life in prison for Daniel Salley. Good riddance to bad rubbish we suppose, but it isn't going to get Joe up and around. Keep Joe and his family in your thoughts.
  • Former Alderman Pucinski's son found dead following a house fire up north. Anyone with info, post it here.
  • Aldercreatures have noticed that the city seems to be paying out rather large amounts of money to people who sue Chicago. So they have done the only thing possible (aside from actually telling city lawyers to fight a few of these bullshit suits) - they formed a committee to study it. Wow - such leadership!
  • Tracking Darts in place of car chases? Hey, if it saves officers and civilians lives and give the helicopter boys an easy target to follow, we're all for it.
  • And the New York Times won't publish pictures of the supposedly "offensive" cartoons mocking muhammed, but reaches back 7 years to republish images of the virgin mary splattered with elephant dung. You know, if a few christians would run to NYC and behead a few editors, maybe the NYTimes would stop being so two faced.

Good to see there is some justice.

SCC what do you think about a poll thread to see what sort of cross section you have here. If everyone will be honest, put up a thread and have each poster identify the following.

Patrol-Beat car or tact
M/2/35
10 yrs on

No doubt many will vote early and often, but you may get a decent idea of what you have here.

My guess for the average is, M/2/35 - 40, patrol, beat car with about 15 years on the job or less.

Puchinski's kid was a shitbag for a long, long time. He's 41 years old and lived in the house daddy Puch left him. He used to do a burglary or two years ago, but after the will was finalized, he didn't have to go to "work" anymore. The dope was brought to him. It looks like he was free basing and he too was char broiled beyond reconition. However, there are a few unanswered questions if there was another person in the place with him. Don't want to stir the pot or tip the hand, so i'll stop here. Stay safe everyone, and for God's sake...STOP RIPPING EACH OTHER APART!!!

I second second city for mayor. Trade the medical for residency. The medical is for useless dick heads and clout hacks. (And yes sometimes some people dying from cancer, but that's what benefits are for).

ALERT:

A poster on a previous post alleges there are actually 103 persons in the sergeant pre-service while only 100 names appeared on the list. Anyone have any details? Maybe its time we stop the shit. Stick together, we're all not meritorious, or mobbed up coppers next on the list.

3 detectives had scored higher, but for one reason or another had waived getting promoted in previous classes (I think one guy was in Iraq). The city forgot to count them in the test score list, and didn't have current waivers for them. They finally called them and they said, "Duh, of course I want to be a Sergeant, that's why I didn't waive it. Why didn't you ask me three months ago??"...or words to that effect. whatever.

Anyway, one guy said this would have let the city appoint one more clout baby as "merit", but they didn't figure this out until too late.

The word around the campfire (a few years ago) was that our beloved FBI "Retreated to a position of safety" when that fuck salley started shooting. When they ran, Det Airhart was shot, and thank God, at least got 1 shot off, striking salley in the leg. When asked the FBI's "position of safety" was something like in the lobby, way, way the fuck away from salley's Apt/condo. The FBI, from what I heard, conducted the investigation, (as one would guess, they had a "small" power struggle at the scene, when the FBI, for lack of a better term "took over") and told their armed disgruntled accountants that they acted in acordance with FBI's procedure...
Det. Airhart for a while was not doing so good, in and out of hospitals. I just hope he can get back to as close to normal as soon as possible!

Cheney 'Authorized' Libby to Leak Classified Information

By Murray Waas - National Journal

Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006

Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, testified to a federal grand jury that he had been "authorized" by Cheney and other White House "superiors" in the summer of 2003 to disclose classified information to journalists to defend the Bush administration's use of prewar intelligence in making the case to go to war with Iraq, according to attorneys familiar with the matter, and to court records.

According to sources with firsthand knowledge, Cheney authorized Libby to release additional classified information, including details of the NIE, to defend the administration's use of prewar intelligence in making the case for war.

Libby specifically claimed that in one instance he had been authorized to divulge portions of a then-still highly classified National Intelligence Estimate regarding Saddam Hussein's purported efforts to develop nuclear weapons, according to correspondence recently filed in federal court by special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald.

Beyond what was stated in the court paper, say people with firsthand knowledge of the matter, Libby also indicated what he will offer as a broad defense during his upcoming criminal trial: that Vice President Cheney and other senior Bush administration officials had earlier encouraged and authorized him to share classified information with journalists to build public support for going to war. Later, after the war began in 2003, Cheney authorized Libby to release additional classified information, including details of the NIE, to defend the administration's use of prewar intelligence in making the case for war.....

This department has been divided and conquered since inception.
As long as there are spots to get to just by know someone, there will NEVER be unity. Nobody wants to lose their "spot".

When they took special away and brought it back, would have been a great time to stick together and tell them not without time and a half, but we couldn't get together.

Even at our "peak of unity", what is the largest number of officers to turn out for a march over our contract; what was it a few hundred?

Shit, the Hispanics can't even get together as one group of Hispanics; what is there now M.A.P.A, P.A.P.A., L.A.P.A., H.A.P.A. what a joke. there your unity in a nutshell.

The black officers are always beafing about the lack of representation of FOP.

The Detective Association doesn't give a rats ass about patrol.

We even have two irish bands that don't even get along. What is Emerald Society and Bags and Pipes?

Rant done, thank you for the forum.

ahhhhh. 9:11 rants but yet knows not of what he speaks. What M.A.P.A is, who knows. There is a M.A.P.O .... as For P.A.P.A thats the Polish and H.A.P.A, well I'm pretty sure Thats the Hellenic group. Once again for those of you who constantly complain about how bad this job is, or how unfair. Take your well earned College degrees and find a field where everything is fair. Untill you do, deal with it! its not worth stressing over it so much. Do your work, collect your money. No matter where you work, this job, Military or the private sector, the same games and issues prevail.

So whats the real story behind Joe Airhart being in the condition he is? Why was he left there for two hours? Why didn't we go in and save him? Why did we yield to the FBI and let them run the show when it happened to one of our guys in our City? Could or did HBT have a clear shot at taking out his captor? Why did Hilliard surrender control of the situation to Chesney? I'm not trying to stir the pot but I think it's a shame what happened to him.
God Bless Joe Airhart

Hey, sweetbabyray.
My best friends brother was the CFD emt on the scene, he tried to tell the G, that time was wasting and they need to get in there. He even had the time frame of how much time had passed from the first shot until the 45 min. mark where the brain lacks oyxgen and shuts down. He told them that Airhart has to come out NOW, We have to get him out! I am outraged that the G, themselves did't go in and grab this guy. Was it not their warrant and their case and the G from what I heard were in the hallway at the time and had a chance to rush the door and do what should have been done and dropped the ball, BIG TIME. The G are half-wits that get in the way of our operations and when someone F***'s up, their the first to say that CPD dropped the ball. So in short, I will always blame the G for their lack of balls!!! My heart goes out to Det. Airhart and his family and Salley should have been put to death that day.

Thing about the FBI, unlike CPD, they don't have to give a statement right away. They have up to 72 hours. Just enough time for all the guys to get together and come up with a good story.

I was working in A/4 on 3rd watch that day, and that's what pissed off the CPD brass, when all was said and done. They couldn't get statements from these guys.

There were a WHOLE LOT of pissed of cops up here that night!

1st and most important: I would NEVER disrespect Det Airhart in any way! And not just him, ANY cop who gave their life, or got messed up doing police work!
2nd- I'm not looking for a "pissisng contest" either, Its what I heard. If you were there, please tell me what and how the incident occured, I (and others) would like to know if our pent up frustration towards the FBI is warranted or not!
3rd- Pleast keep the cop from TRU who got into the accident a few weeks ago in 007 in our thaughts and prayers, it seems he is not doing that well.

From the report, Det. Airhart posed as a delivery man, unsure whose idea that was. The G uses that all the time. Agents stood in the end of the hallway and inside of stairways, from the G, Salley came out got spooked and shot Det. Airhart, Airhart went down, then Salley grabbed Airhart and dragged him in to the apartment. CPD version, Det. Airhart approached the door posed as a delivery man, Salley opens the door with a gun in his hand and shots Airhart right away, Airhart at the same time shoots Salley in the leg and Salley pulls Airhart into the apartment, closing the door behind him. G backs off and tries to figure out what they need to do about this mess they have, while one of ours is in the apartment with this savage. Normal response would have been to wait for hours before you sweet talk Salley into walking out, CPD would have and should have HBT waiting at the ready to storm the apartment, I know HBT, but some of them do have the balls to go in and take a dickhead like this out to get our guy out. G had command of this operation and chose to talk instead of act. The G's defense is that they were trying to save Airharts life by talking and could'nt determine the condition of the Det., but knew he had been shot point blank. You can take sides or have the G to blame for not putting one of their guys in that position and I'll bet everything I have that, if it were an agent in that apartment, they would have had a assault team make entry on a seconds notice, not standby and talk. They are cowards with degrees, who chase after white collar business criminals who are ivy league pussies and would'nt know what to do on the westside on a beat car in the summertime during a heat wave, let alone a beat car anywhere. Face it, the G are not our friends and when they get bored, they have guys on the street mic'ed up trying to jam up a cop trying to make a deal with someone on the street for a gun instead of arresting the guy for a dime of weed. You pick and choose your friends.

Thanks for the clarification, Its basicaly the same story I heard from Det's that were there (after the incident). I also heard that Airhart wanted to do the delivery guy, cause the FBI wouldent do it! Yeah I know with one of our own laying there, our HBT, NO DOUBT would have went in! So would any beat/tac/narc/det/sgt/lt...on CPD. But the pissing match on the scene was stemming from a power struggle between FBI and CPD, FBI's investigation, however a CPD laying on the floor, hostage, lying in a pool of blood. Would things have been diffrent if it was an agent, you ask? You answered your own question:..."They are cowards with degrees, who chase after white collar business criminals who are ivy league pussies and would'nt know what to do on the westside on a beat car"...As for choosing my friends, well, all of them wear a "star", not carry around some faggot-assed thing in some cute leather wallet!

it doesn't matter if joe wanted to be the delivery guy or not. chicago police wanted to go in and were put back. i have issue with the bosses to preserve all life. some life isn't worth saving, or doesn't want to be saved. fuck the bad guys. blow them away. our priorities have gone awry because of media. just like the hbt team. i witnessed a bad guy with a knife to his neck cuz his wife wouldn't give him money for crack. no hostage, only the bad guy with a kitchen knife to his neck. all we needed was a wagon guy with a baton to either knock the knife out of his hand or some sense into him. anyway, the big hbt guns came out and put on a show like the ninja kids. big van, black outfits, heavy weapons, etc. what a waste. they saved his life temporarily, but i'm sure the crack will kill him soon. go back to old school when at least the police had some respect. if fear works, good. better for us.

Amen to that! However, like I said, "I heard" that Det Airhart did it because none of the others were willing. Being 1st thrugh a door with a bad guy on the other side (be it a ruse or a warrant, H.I. or what ever) takes BALLS! and Airhart has them! The ones that left him, well.... we know what is lacking!
The Media thing, dont get me started! We need someone who can set the media straight, not play to appease them. "Police shoot man on Citys west side, tonight at 10:00" guess what: "yep, we shot him, this is why..." Justify it to the same lemmings the media plays to! "Police chase ends in tragedy, tonight at 6pm" our responce "fuck you! the police, DOING THEIR JOB, going after a bad guy who just commited this heinous crime attempted to apprehend the bad guy when (now get this!...) THE BAD GUY FUCKED UP and crashed into..." Place the blame where it shuld lie, on the bad guy!
Is SWAT/HBT a necessity here, I think so, but for a situation like that, yep, 2 waggon guys could take care of the situation, do the paper, (and get a life saving award!)transport, coffee, (a good)lunch, all in under 3 hours!
Fear/respect issue, easy one! Now; Jr gets out of line with mom/dad, and its "time out" for him, while jr 'thinks about what he's done'. And look what we got running around now, this new generation... not impressed! We got out of line, our "time out" had something to do with consciousness, and you remembered what you did, and would do your best not to repeat it! Wait a few more years, the next generation of bad guys will be out of control, and our next generation of police wont know how to handle them!
