2,000 Guns (UPDATE! 3,000!)

Posting late Saturday for Sunday.

Channel 2 is reporting 2,000 guns of all shapes, styles and states of functionality (is that a word?) were turned in today at locations all over the city. A lot of the pictures we saw on the news were pretty old and decrepit looking pieces (duct taped, rusted, worn), but if they could still fire, dangerous in the wrong hands. We doubt that any gangbangers saw the light though and turned in a boatload of their stuff - we didn't hear that the high powered rifle used in a recent west side drive by hit was recovered. Some of this crap people were bringing in though - they're lucky the guns didn't explode when they unloaded them.

More coverage at Channel 7.

UPDATE: Sunday morning 0645 hours: Tribune and SunTimes are now reporting 3,000 guns turned in.

Where are the funds coming from for the payouts? Is there a window on this start/end? I apologize if I missed these points in the article it may have been from comic error and disgust.

Pastor's/city profiling I mean receiving weapons at mostly South Side churches.

Will the Pastors and city lay um out for a media blitz? Federal Grant money for meltdowns. Guess city found a new location to burn. Glad to see the city retained all those grant funds; after prior ongoing failure to dispose?

I hereby declare the southern border closed to all illegal immigrants. I will allow in two hundred thousand Mexicans per year to cut our lawns, bus our tables, and cook out tamales. That's 4,000 per state. California may get more to help out with our rich celebrities. Montana will definitely only get a few hundred.

They will be shipped back after 12 months and fresh Mexicans will be shipped in. They are allowed to bring the cash (tax-free) they earned back home. Minimum wage will be $2.00. Any hot lolitas getting pregnant will immediatley be deported. (Any hot lolitas willing to star in the Bang Bus internet site will be granted an additional 3 months.)

Spanish will no longer be taught at public schools.

And for my next order of business.. All people of middle-eastern dissent who worship muslim will be KILLED!! Change that.. ANY person who is muslim shall be killed.

Mr. Anonymous,

It's ok to say HELL on here. It's the internet afterall. Who do you know that got investigated after failing to write a cop a ticker? (Unless from an accident)

And a cop can't loose their career. But they might be able to lose it.

Did anyone else notice that cops with 18-24 months on the job are working plain-clothes?

I know the media and Phil Cline is reading. So in the honor or Michael Ceriale, why are so many inexperienced Officers working in undercover positions?

I only worry about their safety.

This is from Roeper's article from 1998.

"This guy was 26 years old. A handsome kid who looked like an extra on "NYPD Blue." A former football player at Gordon Tech, a Golden Gloves boxer. Bartended at Marge's Pub on North Sedgwick before he enrolled in the police academy. Unmarried, no kids, the great hulk of his life ahead of him. Lived with his ma and his grandma in Wicker Park , played b-ball and softball with his buddies, hung out at places like the Time-Out bar on North Rockwell, Classic Chicago stuff.

After Just 18 months into his police career, Ceriale was on undercover duty in the first hours of Aug.15. According to police, at about 3:30 a.m., Ceriale and his partner where hiding near some bushes on Root Street, staking out an alleged drug deal at a high-rise notorious for narcotics trafficking, when four lookouts reportedly spotted the officers and ran inside to alert their partners.

"I think they made us," Ceriale told his partner.

Someone came out with a .357 magnum and fired two shots. A bullet struck Ceriale in the lower abdomen, just below his bulletproof vest."

He died a week later.

Why are Officers with 18-36 months on working plain-clothes positions? It's crazy! A girl from the 005th District is on the saturation team after ONLY 2 days OFF probation.

2 DAYS OFF PROBATION!!

Cline created all of these units but forgot to fill them with qualified Officers. Shame on him. I bet Terry Hilliard could fill him in on what it's like to attend an Officer's funeral.

Do the right thing Phil and fill these spots with qualified Officers.

What like TRU and district tac teams??? The reason is nobody with time whats those spots, so you need to take the manpower wherever you can get it. Im not saying its right but you have to man these cars some how.

From the Sun-Times:
"Hal Baskin fears some may be using the city's buy-back programs as an easy means to help increase their firepower. "If I got one that shoots six times, why not get one that shoot 19? Why not take that 100-dollars add some money to it and get an upgrade," Hal Baskin said. "

Good idea Hal. You gang-bangin piece of sh-t!!

Working TACT is not working undercover, just working in Civilian Dress in a standard unmarked police car, which can be identified by most 8 year olds on the South and West side.

In response to message from 1:23am,
obviously you can't write worth a penny besides the fact that you are a raced piece of shit! How quickly you forget how this country was founded....I take it, you don't know very much about American History...who came on the Mayflower??? Answer: the scum, criminals and unwanted from England. So, needless to say, other than the fact that you are a TRUE DUMB FUCK...I propose we should shoot people like you for making remarks like that or even better...send them back to where they came from....Oops, I forgot, scum like you are mutts who really don't know where they came from. Another piece of advise...get an education and maybe just than you will know what Arabs/Muslims, Hispanics and other minorities have contributed to this country. At that point, you will realize that people like you are scum on this earth and have never really contributed to this country!!!

The kicker to this whole thing is on the turn in is that some copper working at a drop off location misplaced his own gun, he then had to call and ask if it was turned in by accident. At that point I LMAO. I wonder if they gave him the hundred bucks. I'm just wondering how the hell do you misplace your own gun. Someone has to get this guys name to bust his chops. Any takers?

4/30/2006 01:20:52 AM

So, in your world, justice means cops are above the Law and should never be called out when they do something illegal? And if a cop writes another cop, his name gets put on the internet. Sorry, but something just doesn't seem right with that. Imagine if every person you locked up for "Disorderly" ( talk about a Civil Rights violation ) or wrote a rush hour parker too suddenly put up a website to list YOUR name.

So you are admitting that personal responsibility doesn't exist among the police? Everything is always someone else's fault...hmmm...sounds like some of you have more in common with the residents then you think!

The real problem cannot be addressed without facing some hard truths and unpleasant realities.
We all know what these are but dare not say them in the current oppressive climate.
Firearms have been a constant factor in this republic from the begining. Other factors are surely to blame for the high homicide rate among certain elements in our society.
The truth is there for anyone with the courage to open their eyes.

Now we gotta pay these assholes to turn in guns?
What a fucking joke.

I hope that every police officer that is assigned down town tommorow can look at each and every one of these hard working people, and see their great grand parent's that once stood in their place.

Like, who cares? You can only do that kind of crap for so long before it gets old. You get better arrests when you aren't looking so hard, anyway. Then there are the details, with the BDU's and Turtle Gear. Ducks have had their wings clipped lately, if you know what I mean..... NO point in working so hard.....

Red light cameras, Dept of Revenue on the war path, yuppies infiltarting 011, if Insurance Co.'s would come out and do their own AUTOPD Reports, no reason to have 13,000 badges out there.

But we could always use more Gold Stars!!!!!!!!

once coppers get some time on the job and get it shoved up their asses by the city they realize it's easier to play hide and seek for a grand a week than to play police. that's why tact, tru, sat teams etc. are kids with 2 years on the job. don't be jealous, they'll be back in their monkey suits when they realize the politics of this job. who wants to run around anymore anyway? too easy to see 30 pending these days.
