Hampton Street Sign Dead?

Or just dead for the moment? Haithcock admits she doesn't have the votes to bring it to the floor and Ike Carothers (Chairman of the Police and Fire Committee) has indicated he will not vote to overrule the Transportation Committee lest it set a bad precedent. Bobby Rush even showing up for the meeting is in doubt due to last months debacle when he was chased from City Hall by construction protestors. Tribune article here (free registration may be required).

We are also told that Chicago Tonight (WTTW) had a pretty biased one-sided piece on the street sign controversy Monday - did anyone see it?

Have we killed it? Have we done it without a single exempt boss raising their voice in protest? Of so, good for us. But the next time ANY EXEMPT speaks at a funeral or memorial or remembrance of our fallen, we plan to turn our back on them, the same as they've done to us and the dead. Because you know and we know they are completely full of shit.

I have to agree with SCC on this one. We should turn our backs on the brass the next chance we get. Especially if its in public. Is it to late to get something organized for St. Judes? We should all put our heads down in shame when we pass the fat man!!! Hand out buttons and wear them at St. Judes. The button could be simple CPD Brass = No Balls! R they going to tell all of us that we can't march with a button on our blouse? I doubt it. We could use the useless media to our advantage and tell them in advance that a protest of somekind is going to be held at St. Judes. They always cover the parade and controversay within any city agency especially the police dept is a favorite!!! Its just a thought. I know I will be at St. Judes and its certainly not to support the upper echelon of the CPD!!!

There is time to get it done. Somebody must pick up the ball and run with it.

"C O P S" Concerns of Police Survivors just sent me, and I am sure many other cops a mailing with a simple message, "Honor the Heros, Not the Killers!"

Perhaps they can make an appearance with banners and we could usher them to a place where everyone, including TV sees them. Then make some good sound bites. Phil ain't gonna tell the widows and orphans to shut up.

Here's something interesting. A group of PO's going to DC wanted to do something to honor OUR Officers at the memorial. FOP was asked to provide a plaque or placard to place on the wall in each section where we have an Officer listed. (If you have never been, each Department goes all out and makes something to put in the section their officers are located. The wall is practically covered with letters and plaques, and photos by the end of Police Week.) It's nice when you walk the wall to be able to locate one of US. FOP REFUSES to do ANYTHING. Not even some kind of cheap ass laminated name placard, photo copied that wouldn't cost them much to do. Still got a NO. What the hell is FOP spending all the money on? Their salaries? Lunches out? Board meeting catering? Are you kidding me that we can't afford a FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS to honor our fallen? These PO's even volunteered to the legwork, transport, and put them up on the wall on their OWN TIME.
Thanks FOP. By the way, how many of you are attending the DC Police Week function on MY DIME? I can't wait to count you all and see.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Hey Miss/Mr 8:04. You don't know how good it is with Daley (not Dailey by the way). The alternatives are much less appealing - or are you not paying attention. He has revitalized the city. And most cops are earning more than an average wage.

Chicago Tonight was a bunch of bullsh*t. I fired off a nasty email to them. Hell, bunch of evidence shows the Panthers otherwise then what they showed. I was livid.

If Our Mayor, Cline, and company cannot get it together, I sure will be at St. Jude's with a very big sign along with some of the families of the fallen who also feel the same way.

The businesses should be supporting the COOK COUNTY PEACE MEMORIAL. They helped us with the petition all the way. They stood up for the families of the fallen.

I emailed Suzie @ COPS and she was nice enough to send emails out to all members. That's what it's all about...

As for another memorial foundation, I absolutely refuse to buy another merchandise, run in the memorial race, or any other support at all.

You're right 9:15. On websites like this there are plenty of (apparently) overworked coppers. Talk to them in private and each one of them has figured out a way to make his "gig" work for him. Company car, shopping on city time, five hour days, tac teams visiting 018 in the evening, turn in a slip and have the sarg rip it up the next day, supervisors taking turns working half days. -- Let's be real.

Let me play Devil's advocate here for a minute: The brass were told to keep their opinions on this to themselves and not talk to any media about it. I've spoken to several bosses of varying rank and they all held nothing but contempt for the sign idea, and the fact they were told to hold their tongues. You are not being realistic when you DEMAND that they make a public statement, when they were directed not to. I don't believe for one minute that any of you would jeopardize your lively hood to make a statement about something that is really a non-issue anyway.

I know, I know, all of you have integrity and anyone who wears a white shirt is a sell-out...whatever. I've only been around for just under 20 years, but in my opinion, right now we have some of the best crew of upper level bosses that I've seen at one time. Oh, sure, there are a few dogs here and there, but overall there are some good guys there. And you all know it.

Would you feel better if ADS Mc Nulty spoke to the press about this, got dumped or forced to retire and was replaced with a boss that will hang you on a shooting? What would that accomplish? Your egos would feel better because you got a boss to cave in to appease you, that's about it.

Did you you ever stop to think that right from the start, maybe the politicians knew it wasn't going to happen, and felt it was best to keep their mouths shut and let it go away?

Maybe it's time to let it die.

Anyway, that's my worthless, anonymous opinion.

SORRY to continue off topic BUT..09:04:31 brought it up and I'll back up 09:46:41's follow-up.

I've been to Washington D.C. many times for the National Memorial.
In the past, FOP did in fact remove from the wall of the FOP Hall, the photos of our fallen members and placed them near their names on the Memorial in DC for recognition, reverence and honor.
The logistical problem was the collection, transportation and recovery of the "ORIGINAL" photos. Historically, some were 'misplaced' or picked up by a family member or friend. Each original photo had to be covered in a plastic bag to protect it from the rain.
To address this issue, many police dept's. from throughout this great nation, place a 'laminated' photo next to, or near the name(s) on the wall for ease of identification and a show of support and respect. The cost is nominal and all items left at the wall are collected by the Memorial staff and handled in a dignified manner at the end of Police Week. Some of the items will actually appear on a rotating basis in the soon to be completed National Law Enforcement Museum across the street from the "Wall" {National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial]

While I can see the reason for not bringing the "ORIGINALS" from the wall of the FOP hall, an unframed, laminated version, to protect it from the elements, is the LEAST we can do to show honor and respect for our members. After all, this is the 'National' Memorial and we are saluting some of the Finest Law Enforcement Officers in the nation, having made the "Ultimate Sacrifice."

Without getting into the politics of the FOP administration or the PBPA as well and how and where they spend their money, let me make this proposal without prejudice on behalf of our fallen brothers and sisters.......
IF FOP/PBPA does in fact NOT want to supply/pay for the laminated color photos of our 'hero's' [I suggest the issue be brought up again to the powers-to-be, for consideration] I too will contribute $$ to pay for this way of honoring our members if SCC will once again extend his/her self in giving us a site, avenue etc. to send a donation. I'm sure others would do likewise.
This is for ALL our Unions and Members...'Put up or shut up!'
"ALL GAVE SOME, BECAUSE SOME GAVE ALL!"

[Just my humble opinion]

I must add a comment here on the pay issue. We all knew how much we were gonna make when we took this job, why are some of us complaining now? I wholeheartedly agree that we don't make alot but to say we don't make enough is kind of obscure. How much would "enough" be? Yes, i realize that we all make harsh decisions and sacrifices but we AGREED to do this. I have had to learn to live within my means so that i will never look around and complain about a lack of money but that was also my choice. I have had much worse jobs that paid alot less. Though i also agree that the bosses are spineless (especially working in A/3 where all they care about is keeping their spot) but almost all of us make our own way when we hit the street. To make a long story short, please make clear what you think you should be paid then JUSTIFY it and i will listen to your griping. If not then just remember, no-one twisted your arm. You signed up for it and agreed to do the job. You can always be digging ditches.
Alright onto another issue, 70 more cameras are going to be put up around the city and most of them will be going up around public schools. What a great way to condition the future generations on being monitored by big brother. Supposedly gonna cost $1.6 Mil. I'm sure it's money well spent that will be going in Daley's pocket. Any thoughts?

Below is a letter sent to our F.O.P. Work Schedule Committee, no feed back was given and we still are waiting for a reason it was taken away.

Mar 25, 2006
Work Schedule Committee
1412 West Washington Blvd
Chicago IL 60607-1821

Dear Work Schedule Committee,
We officers that have worked, and would like to work the 10hr schedule are sending you this letter to show our continued interest in this schedule and are overall disappointment with the lack of reason for the schedules removal. From our understanding department members are not happy with the 6-2 schedule we are working now, and the feed back that the F.O.P. received from officers working the 10hr schedule was 100% positive in favor of this schedule. We do not understand and were left in the dark as to the reason it was removed, and as for the effects of the 10hr schedule on the officers working it all were positive! 1) More time with family 2) Refreshed when returning to work 3) Less medical time 4) Less CR numbers 5) An overall better attitude. Stats are over rated the number one reason to bring it back is because we like it! And it worked!
The March F.O.P. newsletter page 4 states that the committee is determined to collect as much members input into the work schedule as possible, now is this anything besides the 10hr schedule or what? The input on the 10hr schedule was very positive from the pilot districts and it was still taken away! So what will change with this new input? Thank you for your time and hope to get feed back from you on this issue unlike the response we received from the city/department when it was taken away.

This is my first post here, although i come here often. I honestly can't believe how cruel some of you can be. I'm thinking that most likely it's just one guy that keeps posting different messages on this particular topic, at least i hope. B/c if there's that many jag off's it makes me sad. I am a male officer and i am embarresed by what is written here. Of all people to talk, 90% of the guys on the job turn into fat slobs the day they leave the academy and they have the nerve to talk crap about the females. I might be in minority here, but i do want the female po's to know that there are some decent guys on the job don't want to f*ck every female p/o we see. Also, I would take a cool down to earth girl anyday over some hot stuck up bitch. With a few exceptions, most of you girls on the job r great people and most of us guys honestly enjoy having you around. This blog is great in some ways, but really really bad in others. Please take things on here with a grain of salt b/c you know there are a ton of nut jobs on this dep't. To the new female dick's, i look forward to working side by side with you, no matter what color, size, shape you are.

As a female on the job, I usually laugh at all the crap guys write on here. But seriously, it gets really annoying after awhile that everyone seems to look at you as just a piece of ass. I am married and have never messed around but that doesn't seem to keep most cops from trying, even knowing my husband. It is really frustrating when I do something really good and hear comments like "Isn't that cute? She was actually being the police!" or surprised expressions when I know something they don't. Not all of us women on the job are dogs, even some of the decent looking ones. Give us a break. I know there are a lot of skanks on this job too, but if you know one is not like that leave her alone PLEASE!!

019th DISTRICT 26 March 2006

TO: Commander, George Rosebrock
019th District

FROM: Sergeant, Armondo Galan 992
1962 Tact

SUBJECT: Scooters for patrol in high traffic areas

The 19th District is difficult to patrol in high traffic areas and down many alleys, where many construction vehicles are in use. Alleys are very important to patrol due to the large number of burglars and thefts in the 019th district. Also Scooters are much more fuel economical and the police department should be environment friendly. I know we have bicycles we can use but I believe they are too slow. With a scooter more area can be patrolled and officers can respond more quickly. I think we need the two wheel scooters not the 4 wheel ones the department now has. One further advantage to Scooters is the cost to the department. I believe two scooters for the 019th district would be enough for the tact and burglary teams to use as needed. Also they would be very useful for Cubs games.

Thank you for any help in this matter and if you need me to assist you in anyway to achieve this please call on me.

Cops awarded $325,000 in city retaliation lawsuit

Published April 25, 2006

A federal jury on Monday awarded $325,000 to three Chicago police officers who said police officials retaliated against them for reporting reverse discrimination.

The three officers--Lt. Nancy Lipman, Lt. Diane O'Sullivan and Lt. Janice Roche--filed suit in 2001, alleging that a police commander, who is African-American, denied them promotions and other opportunities because they are white.

The jury found against the plaintiffs on their discrimination claims, but agreed that the city had retaliated against them for complaining about their treatment.

The jury awarded $250,000 to Lipman, who had been denied a promotion to captain; $50,000 to O'Sullivan; and $25,000 to Roche.

It does not surprise me ---- the reverse discrimation story.

In many city departments, there are individuals hell bent on sitting at their desks or getting a few people in a group at work and doing the "we don't get respect" crap. All damn day. You're trying to work, picking up their slack, and ignoring the crap but cannot help but hear it - day in and day out.

If you complain, then they pull the race card excuse.

Daley and his people need to have zero tolerance for this crap and if people on the job can't cut it out, give them a verbal/written warning, since their not doing work anyway, and if they keep it up, terminate.

It gets really old.

Cmdr Perry is now in control of Preventive Programs & Neighborhood Relations

You screw up on the job, you keep getting promoted. Not to mention being on the medical 9 months each year for asthma. Oh and everytime the change her commandership she demands the carpet to be taken out of the office and tile laid. So her asthma is effected. And the City does.

Maybe I should ask for the carpet to be taken out of my squad and replaced with nice tile too.

Dump Hampton sign East aka River:
Off topic response to Carpet/Tile

If Perry actually gets carpet torn up and tile placed down due to ashma, LOL. Not knocking Ashma it is diffucult. Then personnel considers her qualified but for her disability, right? Right!

Wonder how she got that one done? If she went the first route thru proper channels aka personnel and or an attorney she would be (required to file an ADA request.) Then one could say the city considered the cost factor of tearing up carpet and the laying down of tile as no undo hardship. City has no office without carpet?

Maybe she just uses her mgmt. ability along with her Fort Kool Aid connection and has her office redecorated at Tax Payers Expense? Still LOL. P.S. Natch she will not be dumped very far anyway.

Perry is the most racist person on this job and very open about it. I remember a roll call at her parade, you know the one with the fictious character named "Bud".

Where Perry sent home a Tact team for not having any blacks on the team. Then Wasington park had a stage with gangbanger rap groups, throwing the fork up and only having two tact team holding back hundreds trying to push up too the stage. As the police call for more units to help gain control of the stage area, Perry refuses the request and the crowds grows more out of control. Again the request is made and again she comes up on the radio and says, " there are enough police there, they don't need no help. Finally, a 10-1 is called and she gets back on the air and sends at the time Lt. Rotti who tries to help out by stoping the show to stop the bullshit and the gangbanger rapper shoves Rotti. Women in the crowd gets in to it with one of the cops trying to hold the line and the copper cuffs her and takes her to be processed. Perry shows up at this time and begins to yell at the cop and says she's just having a good time, don't you treat my people like that, the cop tries to explain the incident of why the bitch is in handcuffs and Perry says she don't want to hear it, take those cuffs off, you have no right here. Then Perry insists that the police at the stage area mistreated the her peeps. It's explained that the stage area needs more police in order to let the last act go on. Sounding as if the white police are the problem, more teams are sent to the stage. This was reconized to the brass and witnessed by several and yet nothing was done. The reason being, what can you do? She'll play the race card, so the bitch who endangered the lives of policemen, who were under her command, if anyone had the balls, she should had been fired for placing officers in harms way, without taking action to try to prevent it.

You talk about Perry and my blood boils. She is the black panther party! Racist Bitch!!!

Hey, 8:44 26 Apr.

If you were'nt at the stage, you don't know who fucked up. I was there and I now who fucked up. You might think you know who's to blame or heard it from a friend at a bar. Again, I was there and I saw and heard everything. I signed the time due slip too, O.K.! Perry is an asshole and she should still be fired for that shit. I've been on this job for awhile. I've worked that parade many times, I never seen that kind of bullshit and I've seen some shit. You have some light wisdom for me, please share! It might have been someone else's fault that that concert go on, but it will never change the facts of that bitch and her lack of POLICE PRIDE, because we all know about her black pride. So please sure, give me your side of the story.

Yea Perry sure is a racist and her husband is not, Perry had no problem turning her back on me when her husband introduced her to me as has happened to other P.O.'S from the Northside that I have worked with, and she lives right across from the hospital on the Northside. Many of her attributes are just like the rest of Starks supervisory personnel

8:44, care to expound on Walker?

I know people have their problems with her when she was the commander of 004 and lived in the south loop, but I knew a few who could also describe several excellent attributes about her.

1. The only commander under Hilliard who REGULARLY worked 3rd/1st watch on Fridays and Saturdays just to help out, monitor what was happening when the actual shit acutally happens, etc. She would regularly call for OT for 3rd watch people to work a few over just to keep some presence on the streets in the north end of 004.

2. The older POs who worked with here when she was down at 1121 in communications seemed to vouch for her pretty uniformly. White and black, male and female, they all couldn't think of a "generic" reason to dislike or hate her.

I've definitely heard that some have had problems with her, and I don't doubt it. But is there really an "infamous" incident? Let the truth be told though the Heavens may fall and all that.
