A big fundraiser is on the horizon for one of our own, PO John Hurley. 29 April 2006 at IBEW (Electricians) Local 134 Hall; 600 W. Washington; 1600-midnight

This website has details. John died prior to the birth of his first child and his wife has been receiving tremendous support from John's old colleagues with unfinished construction, unpaid bills and straightening out the city bureaucracy. what a great guy, he would bend over backwards for anybody---especially if you were the police... John was so passionate about honoring fallen police officers that he had a hugh tattoo on his elbow which was the arial view of the national police memorial. John had attended a benefit in Indiana on 10 sep 05 for a police officer killed in the line of duty, John spent the night there and was returning home the next day 11 sep 05. John was ride home from Indiana on his motorcycle to attend his parents wedding anniversary when a semi-truck hit him -- killing him....John was just 28yrs old with a little over 5yrs on the job.John was moving fast through the department he was just accepted to the SWAT team and was waiting to be promoted to detective(he scored 75 on the list) John had over 5 DC's and over one hundred honorables. John was married only 8 months and just found out he was gonna be a dad for the first time...the city gave his wife some problems about recieving his pension because they were married under a year. On 12 Mar06 John's wife gave birth to John Jr. Please help raise some money for for John's wife and Baby John Jr. and attend this benefit, especially the new detectives, he would been in your class!!!!! please check out our web site you can click on the link from the scc's post or type in WWW.JohnHurleyMemorial.com.... If you would like to buy tickets call unit 153 SOS at 312-746-7180 they will also be sold at the door. If you can't make the event but would like to donate some money or item that can be auctioned off call sos or there is a pay pal account on the web site.....Thanks for you support and as always stay safe!!!!!

Every copper in the city should, AT THE VERY LEAST, buy a ticket to this fundraiser.

I can't add much more to the previous post except to say that John was not only a great cop, but a wonderful human being who treated everyone with kindness and respect.

God bless him and his family.

so what you are saying is that a guy or gal have to be dead for us to be civil on this blog.

That is sad ! Very sad !!

Why cant we all be civil to one another all the time because anyone one of us at anytime can get killed.

Be nice to the dead coppers and shit on the living. Nice motto.

wake up you people and start treating each other like human beings all the time.

may the Hurley Family have Gods blessing and may their lives go on to wonderful things.

as Springer says:

"take care of yourselves, and each other."

We don't have a football team in Corrections. You guys played the Gotham Garbagemen.

P.S.: If you think Cook Co. Jail is bad, check out Rikers.

I belive it is important to support each other, so we should buy tickets. I hope that this is the last fund raiser for the Hurley Family. Their are others that also need our help. Other police officers that have issues that insurance claims will not cover.
