We Read a Book!

We did something we rarely do the other day - we bought a book, and then we read it. And we thought it was actually pretty good. The book was mentioned in our comments section a few weeks back (which is how we found out about it). It's called "Out of Cabrini" and it's written by CPD Sergeant David Case. We did a little searching online and found this review in the Sun Times and some other reviews at Amazon.com.

We don't claim to be the brightest bulbs in the drawer and we don't think we could never write a book (we deal in short story formats here) but this was actually entertaining. The police characters are familiar to us as cops and the gangs (gangster disciples, mickey cobras) are actually gangs we've dealt with and (on a technical level) are actually properly represented geographically. We've worked in some of these places and the author does a good job describing them.

Reading can be fun (our public service announcement for the day).

is this the same dave case from SOG that got made sgt meritorious by sucking off LT.Freddie.... He use to to be SOG's union rep but was promised a promotion if he didn't throw HBT in for the D2 raise when they gave the raises to fto's, K9,marine unit and mounted unit. Now that unit is now called SWAT and train full time. These guys do nothing but train and drive around in the heavy weapons cars. they do more training than anyone in this dept and they make the same pay as a patrolman. They have no take home squad car, no blackberry and they have to buy all their own gear. now Iam just a old retired HBT guy many years ago but these guys deserve better. this is why their SWAT team will never be a well oiled SWAT team. Good job Sgt. Dave, you really fucked those guys but thats ok, now that you are sucking off ADS Tobias you will be a boss some day. By the way, who in the hell gave him all the info for the book, he was a dog ass copper in SOG. oh now it all makes sense, while we were all out making arrests he was compiling info for his book!!!!

You want me to feel sorry for SWAT guys who get to train on company time? Feel sorry that their training is provided by the CPD and paid for? I am sure they do additional training outside the dept and on their own expense too but preaching that all they do is train on company time and money and then cry that they deserve more pay, suck a dick.

There are numerous cops out there that spend their own time and money on training that this dept will not provide. How are these guys rewarded? By not being able to try out for SWAT. The reason they do not and will not get D2 is because then the would truely have to open SWAT up citywide and let everyone try out for it, not just the special few hair gel crew

these are not wild allegations, ask anyone who knows Dave and has been apart of the HBT program. Wouldn't you be angry if you had a chance to get a raise to d2 but this guy threw a wrench into the works to get himself a raise. He was suppose to be looking out for us but instead looked out for only himself. that would of been fine but he choose to run and win the election for our unit rep. how would you like to be the old timer that posted above that could of retired with d2 pension instead of d1!!!!! It maybe a well written book and I am sure I'll buy it, but Dave should some how be working on getting his former coworkers the d2 raise. I know everybody makes mistakes, but you can only be a good guy if you admit that you made a mistake and try to correct that mistake.

ok, swat should make less money than fto,k9,marine and mounted????? no way! we are the only major city that doesn't pay extra to our swat officers. Like I said don't complain when you see a Swat blunder because these guys sacrifice alot and get nothing in return. and as far as opening swat citywide, i say go for it, if it will get d2 pay approved. I am confident enough in my shooting skills and physical fitness to compete against officers in the dept.

Are you saying that because you are not getting the D2 pay you are not going to train and learn as hard as you would for D2?

Are you saying that it is the unions falt if SWAT blunders because they did not get you D2 pay?

If that is your motivation I would think you should step aside and let another po take your spot. I am sure there are plenty of them out there that would do it for the same pay they get now.

Would it be nice to make more, sure. Would it also be nice not to have to spend thousands of dollars a year and your own free time for training, you bet your ass.

no we won't train harder if we make d2, but it pisses us off that other po's are making more money and they sacrifice less. in my opinion the should eliminate d2 or give it to swat along with the others.

WELL SAID!
Swat my ass, you do nothing putz's!
Why do you deserve D2 pay? Becasue you are on the SWAT Team?
When was the last job you handled?
D2 pay for training all day long?
Get a real job. You deserve D2 pay as much as K9, Marine or Mounted United do! These historically were "spots" that an officer was proud to bid/get put into. Officers were proud just to serve in these units. D2 pay for what? What do they do extra day in and day out? They don't deserve D2 pay anymore than the poor beat copper that drives around all night long.
Your all PUTZ'S!

Blow it out your ass claiming that another po sacrifices less than you do. Unless you personally know someone you have no idea that someone else sacrifices less than you do.

Just because yo uare on SWAT do not claim that you have more to sacrifice than any other po out there.

Stop being a crying little bitch too.....if I do not get it either should someone else.

Why should you get D2 pay? Is it because you are specially trained or have a special skill? Well then is that is the reasoning than only po's in uniform should get straight pay I guess. The instructors in the acad should get D2, Tact and Gand should get D2, Gun teams should get D2, when does it stop?

5/20/2006 01:46:00 PM

Yeah, these guys sacrifice a lot all right! Like all the fun of driving around in 007 or 011 for 8 hours with a giant bulls eys on your car and uniform!

There are about 500 people in the entire department that spend 40+ each week doing actual police work. Perhaps 2500 or 3000 that spend 20+ each week. Funny thing is, almost none of em (40+ or 20+) are making D2 or supervisor's pay. But one group of do-nothings is jealous that another group of do-nothings is getting paid more to do nothing.

Cry me a river.

Why is it anytime a copper gets a nice spot, promotion, belong to something outside the normal duty of a po such as football, baseball or hockey teams they are attacked? Is it because the po who is doing the attacking is jealous or just that proud to be a beat officer in a high crime district? please give us the insight of this type of po.

I was part of the bargaining committee during that contract negotiation. The city argued, and the arbitrator agreed, that HBT(SWAT) can legally write off on their taxes the money spent on hair gel, roids, and the furrowed brow implant. The tax reduction almost doubles the difference between D-1 & D-2. Looking good ain't cheap.

I never attacked the SWAT personal. It appears someone on SWAT attacked this Dave Case cop for not doing something for him/SWAT. I do not know how long the Chase has been gone but any number of the enlightened SWAT guys could have taken over his position that he was suppose to have with the uion and present there case to the union regarding pay.

I have a problem of the mentality that it seems the SWAT peolpe say they deserve D2 pay becuase other people like the marine unit get it. The SWAT person also stated the they sacrifice more than others. That in not gettting D2 pay there might be blunders on search warrants. What does D2 have to do with a person training as hard as they could? Are they going to train harder becase they would be getting more money? If that is the case I will hold off ever having to request for SWAT and look to the hard working cops in the district who spend their own money and train on their own time (away from family and friends) for help knownig they are doing it for other reasons the just money

I can't wait for this posting! Next, perhaps all the house-mouses can post the number of hours spent each week being assigned to operation closed market! That'll show me!

Oh, and the 1000 or 2000 medical abusers can check in every time they decide they feel well enough to show up for roll call in a district.

Oh, and perhaps the K9 dogs can let us know every time they bite someone! That'll show us that our worst dogs are doggier than an actual dog!

This could be really, really fun!

Gina Gallo's book sucked. I know some of the incidents she wrote, as having happened to her, in fact happened to other officers and she wrote them as being her own. Look, if you write a work of fiction fine, but to write them as you being a super-cop is wrong.

In her book didn't she say she got into a shooting her first day on the street when she ran off from her training officer? Come on.

"Gina Gallo' is a nom de plume for a female who worked in 012 about 20 years ago and got fired. She was involved in few of the incidents she describes in her book and some of them never happened. Some of the things she actually did would be much more interesting but then she would be doing time. However it is a work of fiction albeit a poor one.

In regards to SWAT, Marine Unit, Mounted, etc., those positions are only filled by clout bitches and the people with real skills applicable to these coveted positions are purposely passed over for some flunky with a phone call because the more qualified person would take their spot—go figure, it’s all legit kid. I love the interview process at these units. Lt: “Who’s your phone call?” P.O.: “I don’t have one.” Lt: “Thanks for coming in.” P.O.: “Don’t you want to look at my activity or past experience.” Lt: “No, not really.”

But he did because he saw the things he did were wrong, and attempted to do the right thing for a change.

There are things he did I didn't like, however I have much respect for him for turning it around. Writing about it is even harder, because imagine all the judges and jury snickering and pointing the fingers at him. I hope they do make a movie out of his book!

Besides, who will go to Rush / Div to get the heavy weapons car? If you really like to work and lock guys up, make arrests, do warrants, why would you want to be on SWAT or HBT waiting for someone to call you while you drive around all night TRYING,,,I REPEAT,,,,,TRYING,,to look cool. "I'm in SOS, I drive a MARKED SQUAD, but I'll be super cool and wear a hooded sweatshirt so nobody knows im the police!" The reason they will not open up SWAT to anyone else is because how will the bosses replace the clout babies. Stick a fork in it. The CPD as we knew it, is long gone. All because of the filthy politics and clout.

The best thing that could happen is for the CPD go into federal receivership for all the crooked patronage.
