Burge Report Delayed - Again

Once again, a judge delays the Burge Report from public view. Channel 5, Channel 7 and the Sun Times all have the EXACT same AP wire report on their sites. Not one of them could be bothered to do a little research and make the story their own - almost like the duplicate To-Froms IAD doesn't accept anymore.

Anyway, the usual cries of "cover up" erupt from the teaming masses and lawyers hint at knowing the identities of certain deposed parties who may have a reason to not want the report revealed. It all makes for an interesting debate as to who stands to lose the most if and when the report is finally released. Maybe it gives a glimpse into why the mayor hates the police so much when so many cops worked so hard to give him cleared cases to grease his run for office.

I don't know the details of the shooting, but i do remember that the academy teaches to run for cover before you engage in a fire fight. Has anyone seen the tapes or spoken to anyone who knows the facts that the ppos ran because they were scared and leaving the main guy on on his own or getting cover like the academy instills in the recruits that you are going to lose the fight if you don't. I'm not sticking up for the fired ppo's, just wondering the facts.

If the fired recruits were "running for cover", they would not have been fired.

1:28 you are some kind of stupid. Nobody has ever taught any copper on this job to just run for cover. If that's what you were taught then I suggest you get yourself back over there and ask for some retraining, because somebody did you a disservice. Our Academy teachs them to ENGAGE. If they are not in a position of cover, they are taught to draw, shoot while moving, AND move to cover. They do not teach them to turn and run, leaving another PO to fend for themselves. The 2 PPO's and the stripped PO ran without as much as drawing their weapons...they left another PO to fend for himself...that is not what they are teaching at our Academy. We are the Chicago Police, we don't run.

the academy doesnt teach u to run for cover before u engage in a gunfight. shootings are unique to the circumstances at the time they escalate. the academy teaches that cover is an effective option to avoid being filled with holes. the academy taeches u if u dont start in a gunfight behind cover you might want to get cover during a gunfight. whats more troubling about this incident is that the officers let this 'shoplifter' get the drop on them.

the reports stated that officers struggled with the offender to place him in custody.what does this say about our control tactics training?if you have to struggle with the guy then you are not performing the move right.is this because the officers didnt perform the tactic correctly?is the academy teaching the tactic the wrong way?okay, now they have been struggling with the guy and they start to tire.he pulls away and "REACHES INTO HIS POCKET"this should have been ringing bells not only for the officers in the struggle but the other officers witnessing what was going on that something bad is going down.

Investigators went to the Area to review the tape and went to Dominicks to review the layout of the store. They also verified what was said at the round table before recommending firing. There is no way that the PPOs and the other cop were doing anything but running away. I'd rather they were fired than backing me up later.

To 03:03:42 AM

The offender (now deceased) was 5'11", 390 lbs, the one PO that did everything right got one cuff on, offender was too big to get the other cuff on, the shooter was attempting to get another set of cuffs on the offenders free hand. He got no help from the stripped PO and that is when the struggle began. Excellent tactics by the shooter.

For clarification...the one PO that did everything right is the shooter.

It's not hard to find the names of all involved. Do it through the Department when you are at work. Call Area 2 on the Pax or something. PLEASE DO NOT LIST the names of any of the involved on this or any ther blog.

anyone in the know on how many years the p.o. that got stripped have on? I'll take a guess and say less than five years. Its that clout shit again in the academy. You shouldnt be an instructor unless you have ten years on the job, worked in fast districts, and have a couple of instructors that have been involved in shootings.Because of clout you have kids training kids. the academy is like a fucking college campus instead of a para-military institution. say back to the days of Tero and Sgt. Recendes!!!

The stories at
www.chicagoreader.com/policetorture are interesting.
I am not a PO but have CPD cousins and live in a PD heavy neighborhood.
I am disturbed by what happened but the older PO tell me that Daley wanted a high conviction rate to run for office and that Burge did what people wanted him to do. Most of the guys he tortured were scumbags anyway.
Daley knew about this all along.
I am still disturbed by it but he did take a lot of bad guys off the street.
