Compared to Last Year?

Anyone have the homicide numbers? We've got to be neck and neck, right? Because we can't be below last years numbers, can we?

A "two-fer" on the southside.

Numbers this year will surge after riots this summer on the west side.

Phil will have egg on his face and stains on his pants. He will probably be asked to step aside by the mayor for failing to secure the city.

Hiring will not keep up with retirements after riots start.

Medical use will triple when the trouble comes. All the kings men and all the kings horses won't be able to stop the disturbances once it starts.

Sad but true!

The New York Times is reporting tonight that NYC's numbers are up 9 or 10% over last year.

And you want to see something truly f***ed up, look at the numbers for the cities that took the most Katrina "victims". Numbers are up in cities all over the Southeast through to Texas.

Meantime, Bratton in LA is doing juuuuuuusst fine, thank you very much. That guy is worth his weight in gold.

the ONLY reason numbers are down is that there are more paramedics keeping asshole alive. Advanced life support = lower homocide totals. someone told the mayor(king) this and see what happens. more assholes with 16 bullets in them living

Off Topic:
I can clearly remember the 10-4 unit driving past me laughing while I was conducting an investigatory street stop on members of the Black "P" Stone gang. All I was thinking as they went by was "Thanks for nothing fellas." SNAFU...Do I hold any animosity towards the men? No. If there is one thing my father always stressed to me it was that "Life is not fair."
CPD is made up of people from all walks of life. As in the military, you have your lazy and unmotivated as well as your spirited and driven. CPD likes to use the terms real police and dogs. In the end though, the one common goal we are all striving for is to retire with a pension and a good bill of health. That's pretty simple.
There are basically two other goals for every police officer in Chicago to strive for. First: Ensuring that the officer returns home from the tour of duty the same way he or she entered roll call. Secondly: Preserving the stability of the police family. We should watch over our coworkers and their families. We encounter so much adversity while performing the scope of our activities and we shouldn't feel the need to attack each other. Furthermore, police officers should know that there are people who care for their well-being. We should help a fellow cop and be approachable in times of misery.
Coalition forces are made up of ALL services to include foreign personnel. In combat, the key to survival is team work. Those of us who served overseas in war do not feel like we are better or that we are entitled to promotions or specialized units as a few of you have suggested. We all had a specialty and we contributed. All gave some and some gave all.
'Back up' is essential to the police officer. There are no John Waynes or for that matter lone wolves like John Rambo in the streets. The characters in Hollywood action movies are for entertainment, but the reality of the matter is we must work as a cohesive unit-a team-in order to survive. Remember, at the completion of the movie the actor goes home unscathed. Why am I writing this you ask?
Well, after reading the "Loss In The Clutter" blog I felt the need to submit a response. SCC, however, disabled further statements to the thread, so here we are.
I am honored to work in 009. I believe it is a great distict and I thoroughly enjoy serving with my fellow police officers and supervisors. Many have asked me why I choose to stay in 009? Simply put, while I was 9600ft in the mountains of Afghanistan fighting terrorism, it was my fellow 009 personnel who sent me letters, care packages and showed their undying support. These memories are refreshing and make it easy to disregard the vicious attacks of a few self-serving individuals on the blog site. I am truly honored and privileged to work in this fine district.
In my 16yrs plus of being in the Army, I have encountered people who have impacted my life in one way or another. Some were good and others were--let's just say needing some improvement. However, like 009 we formed a bond of loyalty and friendship. At times it would seem like we were a dysfunctional family, but overall, the experiences and feelings shared were satisfactory. All I am saying is as long as I am able to stay healthy and of sound mind I intend to make the streets in Chicago a little safer. I intend to motivate younger police officers and teach them to strive for their goals in CPD. I intend to add to the amazing Chicago police legacy that my father and grandfather created years ago.
Lastly, the officers who chose not to back me up did not live up to the oath that they took to becoming a law enforcement officer, but that is their decision. Everything turned out well. No harm-no foul.
Thank you to ALL the officers present and retired who care for my well being--you know who you are. Remember if you're ever in 009, I've got your six.
Be safe and take care of one another.
Support Our Troops!!!

I'm with ya, purple shades. Good points and well written. The worst part is that only true Police with the Integrity of POLICE will respect it and move on. The Bastards that don't know what it is are not worth the effort. A real Policeman never bad raps another in a public forum. what problems or animosity held, is addressed face to face and spoken about no more. Cowardice and backstabbing is replacing valiance and brotherhood. Thats the worst that could happen, but we watch and wait and see the degression. No one does anything about it. We sit there and do not intervene with the bacteria that is eating the blueshirts alive. I am not innocent either. I watch in disgust as the future of our department becomes less and less prosperous.
Every promoted PO is a sukhole asskissing jagoff, right? WRONG!!
Everyone in 016 is a dogass .right?? WRONG!!
Everyone in 009 is a political hack. right?? WRONG!!

GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT BOYS AND GIRLS.

WE ARE ALL WE HAVE, WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO RESPECT US.
PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND ONCE AGAIN REALIZE HOW WONDERFUL THIS JOB CAN BE WITH A LITTLE TRUST, A LITTLE BROTHERHOOD AND A LOT OF CARE AND COMPASSION FOR EACH OTHER.

I have been away from patrol for some years, until a recent promotion brought me back to the district where I started many many years ago. I was shocked to see the that the ratio of dogass to hard working police has increased so much in the few intervening years. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to see that those who are not absolute dogasses are in fact either exceptionally principled young officers or dedicated, honorable veterans who have kept the faith for so many years. On or off duty, I have your back.

Oh Yea I going to bust my ass for these ass**** citizens of chicago. I need more Lawsuits and Cr numbers. There is a need for me to make these Q superiors proud, so they can claim credit for all the good work they do. Thank god they were able to find there way to work and give me guidance and solid advise, for without them I'd be nothing. They tell me everyday how they worked hard to accomplish their rank not to mention they of the Minority Race. How much backing do your Bosses give you when a minority screams race, even though you did nothing wrong? For 28 years I busted my ass, but not anymore. My 2 rules is make sure no brother in blue gets hurt and my partner and I go home safe, everything else is mute. If I'm a dog ass so be it, but been there and done it. Sticks and Stones may break my Bones but names will never hurt me.Being a good cop never got me any promotion just alot of bullshit.

To "Purple Shades",
I have no idea who you are. One thing for sure is that if I am ever in 009 I would take the time out to meet a fine officer like yourself anfd thank you for serving our country. I read your response --man, I have never heard such eloquent response from a street officer, especially one that is being bashed unfairly.

Imagine if even half the officers have the sense of duty and professionalism that you have. In addition, many are ridiculed on this blog--but I have never really seen responses in their defense, not like the responses that the officers that know and have your back!! Like my drill sergeant use to tell us-- "Drive on soldier!"
As far as the officers that "just drove by" that makes me sick to my stomach. There are officers that I dislike in my district, but I always stopped by to back them up. Some just don't get it, no sense of team .
I have seven years on and still have the motivation that I had as a young N.C.O. I never complain. I am out here doing my job , busting my butt. The dog asses will always something to say, but i don't mind them. I care about what my partner thinks, vice versa.
Do what you have to do out there, as you can see you have earned people's respect. Those that know you and those that don't. Whoaah!

quick purple shades story. when i got sent to 009 midnights i was brand new and knew nobody. Back then, midnights was extrememly clicky and even though i would say hello to everyone, they would not say hello back.. no joke. They thought they were that cool. There were a couple exceptions, and purple shades was one. He always said hello and told me if there was anything he could do just ask. He reassured me that things get better and made me feel a little more comfortable on a very stand off-ish watch. I never really thanked him for that, but i never forgot. That's the kind of person he his. Extrememly nice and outgoing and helpful. I'm sure i'm not the only one that he helped out, and won't be the last, but he should know that i/we appreciate having him in 009. Thanks you purple shades.

Nothing against the college boys/girls they're recuiting on this job,but the people the department should be targeting for recruitment are VETERANS.These are the young people of this generation who understand the words duty, honor, and sacrifice. These are people who know what it means to be part of a team and what the concept of teamwork means.I see so many of these kids on the job with this "ME" attitude (So selfish.)A person who has served their country understand what it means to take care of a "buddy." and that you leave no soldier, marine, sailor,or airman behind.Purple shades,we need more like you!! As another former 11B10, I agree with 07;25. Formal education has a relative value. Teamwork, continuity, and common goals are needed to achieve success. Ego control is vital. Give the veteran preference for employment. If they learned to close with the enemy by means of fire and maneuver and capture or destroy him, that's good enough for me.
