How Do They Find These People?

Talk about your ambulance chasers. The family of the recently deceased Malcolm Lofton already has a lawyer out there as their spokes-creature. Of course, the story is that Mr. Lofton was merely trying to get help when he was brutally gunned down by an off duty female officer:
  • Foutris said Lofton was being chased, and jumped in front of the officer's car in an attempt to get help.
  • "There are witnesses who did see him being chased," Foutris said. "There is absolutely no way that Malcolm was trying to steal the car. There was no carjacking involved. He did not have any weapons from what we know. He didn't even have a driver's license."
OK, first of all, how about you present these imaginary witnesses. Seriously. Even one of them would be nice.

Second, people attempting to get help don't usually leap in front of cars and attempt to open the doors. And when they get thrown off of the cars, they don't usually climb back on the car and try to enter through the sunroof. AND they don't usually choose brand new cars that still have the dealer stickers in the windows driven by a lone woman.

Third of all (and this really kills us), there is nothing that says Vehicle Hijacking or Attempted Hijacking has to have a weapon involved (there is no charge for carjacking in Illinois). And what point (if any) does the former Mr. Lofton's driver's license status have to do with anything? Only licensed drivers are allowed to hijack people? We must have missed George Ryan signing that one into law.

Is this guy serious? We aren't lawyers, but we met one once (ran him over with our car - twice) and we know this lawyer is a moron. This is a direct result of (A) the City settling everything that comes their way and (B) not drowning lawyers at birth.

I would have thought at lease one of these mysterious witness, would have called the police if they saw this guy being chased. why is it everytime that a copper is involved with something, witnesses come out of the woodworks, if that guy was being chased, caught and beaten to death or shot and kill....would we have all those witness ready to come forward to testify!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone see the new t-shirts going around that say "If You See Da POLICE Warn A Brother" on the front along with the Warner Brothers (WB)logo and shield?

They are for sale on eBay (Item # 8428731370) for example. That typifies the attitude in the african-american community towards the police.

How many old timers have been at the scene of a police shooting and scum comes pouring out of the wood work swearing they saw the poleese shoot down the brother in cold blood?

I sure have, a number of times. You can depend on it. Thank God decent witnesses came forward to tell the truth in the incidents I was witness to. In some of these neighborhoods, the $5,000-$10,000 that the city will settle for is a small fortune. This the land where a purloined pork chop sandwich or turkey leg often gets one murdered rememeber.

As the "cop/lawyer that keeps complaining about how he/she dislikes all the hate directed at lawyers," I feel the need to ad my two-cents to this specific post.

First off, I'd like to thank SCC for promising me "a fast horse" when the Revolution comes.

Now I've no doubt played Devil's Advocate in defense of what, to the normal person, must look like greed inspired actions by various attorneys. Just because I've done so doesn't mean I actually agree with that attorney's actions. I only do so to present the situation from an attorney's perspective.

Here's the deal though. . . for the most part I can't stand attorneys. In fact, I decided to become an attorney after dealing with so many stupid ones in court. I figured if they could make it through law school then why couldn't I?

That being said, I'm going to give all SCC readers a nice way to get back at idiot attorneys. And, if done properly, they could even get back at the attorney in the case at hand. How do you do this you ask. . . you fuck with them via the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission ("ARDC").

Without getting into specifics, all attorneys must conform to the rules of professional conduct, as failure to do so will subject them to discipline consisting of either suspension or disbarrment.

In the case at hand, and in all similar such cases, I'm amazed at how fast an attorney is able to both sign the client and file suit. It almost seems like the lawyer is seeking out and soliciting the client. Interestingly, to do so is in direct violation of rule 7.3 (see generally:

http://www.iardc.org/rulesprofconduct.html)

I would suggest that any person believing this to be true make a complaint to the ARDC. For information on how to do so, check out: http://www.iardc.org/htr_filingarequest.html

You see, there is nothing more troublesome to an attorney than having to deal with an ARDC complaint. If you ever obtain information than an attorney violates the rules, feel free to make a complaint. I promise you that if the information is good enough, the attorney will have to answer the allegations.

Well, thats my tip on how to mess with idiot attorneys. I hope each and every one of you gets to put it to use one day, as its a very satisfying feeling to cause an attorney grief.

Now make sure I get a race horse!

SCC, you forgot to highlight one of the most important lines of the news article: "Police officials added that their witnesses said Lofton was not being chased, and that he had tried to steal another vehicle earlier Wednesday evening."

I have just 2 words for the family and their attorney: Nigga, please.

Interesting. Lots of garbage submitted concerning someone's knowledge of "African American Attitudes" towards Police. Lots of people in the black community LOVE the Police, and only wish we could do more to stop the crime they have to deal with on a daily basis. Unfortunately, when the low lifes control the streets where they live, they can't beat the drums, wave flags, or shout, "WE LOVE YOU!" as squad cars drive by on patrols. Every day I'm working the street, I've seen little black children WAVE at me, and I see black parents encouraging their kids to do so.
I'm not gonna BS anybody here and tell you we're univerally loved by everybody out there, but from what I've seen, there's plenty of blame on both sides for that. How many
of YOU wave at kids as you go by, or smile or even say good morning to people of color you pass on the street during the course of your duties? Think about it, every day you're out there, are you building a bridge, or tearing one down?

To the previous poster. I do wave to the children in black neighborhoods who wave at me. They r usually the only people who can stand us. If somebody says good morning or hello to me, I give the common courtesy back.

It is the bad expierences that all of us have had over and over again that makes us mean, indifferent, and extremely suspicious. Thousands of us have done a sneak and peek only to have an old lady come out here back door and yell five o to the shithead on the street. That burns the bridge permanently for most us. I'll leave it at that.

The only bridge that should be torn down is the one these dogs crawled on to our shore.

To both 7:09's. I too work in a black neighborhood. There are some working class people who really are afraid of the gangs and do like the police. The problem comes when you are forced to go to CAPs meetings, actually listen to the few good citizens who show up, then try to take care of the problem, i.e. make it a mission to write tickets or issue ANOVS to the problem house (the gang's drug house). The ONLY people who care are you and the people you were trying to help. The ward superintendents have already hired (maybe forced to hire by the alderman) gang bangers who have access to all CAPS city service requests. They tip off the gang bangers. They also can use the info to buy and sell properties in the hood. I am so disgusted by the "I don't really care" attitude of the brass, I would quit if I could afford too. Maybe I should file a lawsuit.

this is a new tactic.

throwing oneself onto a vehicle when seeking assistance.

So... if my home is ever on fire, I need to grab a vaulting pole and propel myself onto the hood of the fire truck?

dammit man,,,, I need to start practicing now
