More Building!

We noted the push to build 4 new police stations along with along with other projects in a previous posting. Some of the projects include a "new North Avenue bridge over the Chicago River. A remote garage to relieve the parking crunch at O'Hare Airport. Crushable beds of concrete at the end of Midway Airport runways to halt planes that overshoot their landings."

The re-election push must be in full swing. Either that or the mayor is taking a page from his old man's book - when the indictments start flying, spend, SPEND SPEND! Now he has announced a $1 billion dollar spending spree to build 9 new high schools and 15 new elementary schools (Tribune, Sun Times stories). This despite the fact that school enrollment has been DECLINING for two years in a row.

Perhaps this "spare" billion dollars ought to be invested in say, oh, a pension fund or two that are notoriously underfunded at the moment?

Don't think for a second that the middle class people are gonna see any of those "new" schools in their districts. Helllll no. They are gonna go to everywhere except Beverly, Mt.Greenwood, Garfield Ridge, and Edison Park. Did you hear da Mayor today in his news briefing?......... He stated "You taxpayers are gonna see where you taxes are going and I'm proud of the city council for helping put this through. BULLSHIT! Last time I looked the only hard working taxpayers are the ones that I live by, not Pilsen....not Englewood, not the westside not northside and certainly not bronzeville! Who's really making out in this new deal for schools and who's getting the shaft.....we are as usual! I'm so sick and tired of even hearing this Ass talk about helping the people that need it the most when those fuckin people are always getting the most and you see what they do with it time after time after time!!!!! They fucking destroy everything from neighborhoods to homes to business's and even SCHOOLS. 300 people in class beginning of year, 30 graduating at the end! C'mon people are we that blind that we keep turning the other cheek when it comes to giving these fucs everything while we keep shelling out 5, 6 8K for our kids to go to private schools and we can't even get a decent one where we live so maybe WE can be helped out alittle. Sorry for the long rant but extremely one pissed off person right now.

just wait till hard times come and the workers/taxpayers take a good look around.
subsidising the "lifestyles" of people who contribute only a narcotics distribution system to the city of chicago will end abruptly !
i heard about a middle class woman who knew nothing of sec. 8 and when it was explaned to her she said "well that's not fair".
the shit i see every day would make the average tax payer puke!
we need to educate the middle class. mainstream media is doing a verry poor job.

Embarassed to say this, but I make $9/hr and average 34 hours per week. I have an excellent employment background however the jobs are very limited here and are located out in the suburbs. I make too much to temporarily get a link card, etc until I can get myself out of this situation. Although, someone told me how they got a link card when they didn't qualify.Take care.

Unfortunate to hear about your background. I would be proud though that you are trying to do it without public aid. Public aid has done nothing for people but to encourage them to stay where they are at instead of try harder.

Sounds like you are trying to "get yourself our of this situation," as you put it. Good. That is what is suppose to happen. You are suppose to work hard to move up a rung on the ladder. Public aid was designed to assist people to move up on the ladder of success. Great in theory, but asshole nature does not feel they ever have to move because they are provided and taken care of.

You don't want public aid. Do what you have to do to survive. Work multiple jobs, go to school or keep searching for that nice job out there that is possibly looking for you. Keep stepping up to the plate.

I have said my peace.

thanks for the very nice reply, officer. many of us are struggling and looks like you may or may not have a pension upon retirement. we're all rowing in the same boat thanks to our mayor and other city leaders making very poor decisions.

god bless all of you

I'm white and just wanted this link card to buy food so I'm not starving until I find a solution.
A woman told me to say that I wa sliving with someone and wasn't working, and that I had to buy my own food. Then to write a letter putting a fake name an signing it, to bring it when I go for the appointment. What makes me angry is seeing people with these link cards and then they are dressed in Ecko, Babyphat, Vittion, and get into a brand new vehicle loaded up with food
