CTA Mishap

The Fillmore station fire probably would have been the top story on the news if the CTA hadn't managed to send over 100 people to the hospital following a fire. A derailment led to a smoky fire and commuters fleeing through the tunnel system. This incident may highlight what could be a catastrophic weakness in the even of a subway attack - evacuation. We'll read the after action reports with a wary eye

Coverage at Channel 2, Channel 5, Channel 7, Sun Times, Tribune.

Hmmm. Two mysterious electrical fires. What are the odds?

Before one of the stupid honkeys say something, just look at all of the white people claiming to be injured who probably jumped in the crowd so they could get easy money

Funny, the only one I saw on the news that wasn't moving around and at least holding their own oxygen mask on was a mule playing the ol' westside heart attack laying limp on the chair.......

YEAH

I just got home. We had to get off @ Damen (Blue Line heading into the Loop). You could smell the fire still up on the tracks.

Then we had to catch a shuttle bus, only when we got downstairs there was nobody around to show us which bus. So we had to run across the street and just follow each other, hoping it was the right bus.

To matters worse, the CTA bus driver had no clue what route to take, and where she was going. Scribbled (brief) directions on a index card. We had to give her directions, and then a few of us took turns shouting out where people had to get off to take which lines, etc. because she had no idea which lines left at which station. Mnay people on the shuttle were vacationing in our city and lost. Then people waiting for buses along the way were screwed because the shuttle wasn't stopping for them and it didn't look like there were any normal buses along the routes or just shuttle buses (?). One man boarded and started explaining no regular buses were stopping along his route, just shuttle buses. The driver wanted to boot him off, but we just told the driver to let the guy on, so he could get home.

Finally, we arrived @ the Clark/Lake and CTA Security had no clue where we needed to go to catch the trains. He directed us across the street which was closed off. Eventually some CTA person with brains helped us out.

We are so screwed if we get hit with any type of bombing, etc. in this already messed up city...

Hold the phones.

I just noticed something. Didn't the CTA say something about twisted wheels? How the hell do wheels get twisted if not from an explosion? Correct me if I'm wrong...

Saw one babe who was pissed that the shuttle taking the place of the L was late. Her and others had been waiting 15 minutes and they felt it was to long. Giggles into the camera and says, "I'll be late mom". Now listen carefully dingbats. This was called an EMERGENCY. Check Webster's, they'll give you a definition. Use your two dam fat feet and start walking, okay. Walk to another bus route, back to the Loop, hail one of those vehicles called a TAXI, or as Regis would say, "Phone a Friend". Try thinking next time, instead of bitching!

Without giving out too much info regarding the problems with todays response to the train fire, we are Screwed (note the capital S)when this shit is intentional and happens at 3 or 4 places at once. If you think the city has properly trained you to respond to a disater, I would suggest you look on-line at your training record. It will probably be over 3 pages long of videos that were running in roll-call while you were getting your assignments. There were coppers that were actually going to go on the tracks into the tunnel at Halsted and Grand. I don't remember much of that training video, but I'm sure somewhere in there it said "stay out of train tunnels filling up with smoke." I know it also probably said if you do go in to such a place, bring you own air. I do have to say that studying for the Sgts' test got me on the right city wide for underground communication.

You may be correct on which citywide frequency to use, now only if you could transmit from that spot.

okay, okay who out there has the official City of chicago evacuation plans??? Prepared, I don't think so, trained, doubt it!
preparations and resources are a carefully held secret, need to know basic only. MEANING: U R FUCKED, your family is fucked, get use to the term
"collateral damages and we will rebuild". The death and destruction of citizens and properties wihin the city proper, will only open up the federal money machines, to ensure that the same political hacks and their personal friends are kept in the money flow. History has taught us, when governments are facing a catatrophic event, the most expendable and easiest replace lost are its people. So prepare to kiss your asses good-bye.

Seriously look at the footage of the CFD at the scene. They look like they dont have a clue and the best part you see several CFD white shirts barking out orders to look important.I would love to hear the radio transmissions of the event. But I dont blame the CFD but the Ivory Tower who have all their priorities wrong.Right now the Midget is to concerned with the Gay Games and trying to land the Olympics. God Help Us.

Ya know, it just struck me. Where was Cortez Trotter in all this?

The Mayor was there. 50+ police units and hundreds of firemen were there. Wasn't Cortez Trotter given the job to be there for major incidents like this?

Wasn't he given lotso money because he was pensioned out of the FD and the city claimed it needed his invaluable expertise?

So, where was he? Not a word about him from the media, but isn't he the "disaster go-to guy" who is supposed to be in charge when this stuff happens?

With all the bad shit that is known about the man, and his total lack of responsibility or accountability, I gotta wonder what he has on Daley.

FILLMORE is correctly
spelled with a double "L". Check the street sign at 1100 South and the surname of the thirteenth president of the United States (Millard Fillmore), the street's namesake.

F-I-L-L-M-O-R-E

"FILLMO" is also acceptable, even preferable, since many residents of this garden spot of the West Side can not pronounce the letter "R".
