I Don't Recall

  • "I don't recall," Mayor Daley said 16 times to special prosecutors investigating whether police under former Cmdr. Jon Burge tortured prisoners for nearly 20 years without getting caught.

Daley also said "I don't know" four times, "I wouldn't know" three times, "I can't comment on that" twice, "I couldn't speculate on that" twice, "I forgot," "I don't have a recollection," "I wouldn't recall," "I don't remember" and "I've never heard of that."

Sounds like a number of depositions we've heard about. We especially like the one where he said, "I don't remember today." We're sure he'll let everyone know the day he does happen to remember the answer.

Remember when Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) would get caught out on something by Alice? Face all sweaty, eyes bugging and "Hommina, hommina hommina?" Just replace the words, "silly, silly, just silly," and there you have it.

Heres a thought-Dean Andrews pretends to be a detective almost as much as he pretends that he is straight. "The ultimate leader is one who is willing to develop people to the point that they eventually surpass him or her in knowledge and ability."

It use to be that the Detective Division relied on its experience from seasoned Detectives, Sergeants, Lieutenants and Commanders to train the up and coming. When you have a Commander that does not have that experience and consistently overrides the decision of his managers the system beaks down. The Detectives have stopped trying to do more because they are tired of being slapped down by Dean. The Lieutenants and Sergeants have been rendered ineffective because the men they manage know that their decision doesn’t matter and that the decision will always be up to Dean and no one else. The supervisors lack the intestinal fortitude to stand up to Dean for what they believe in fear of losing their precious spot or being dumped to midnights. Dean dumps supervisors and detectives with no expectation and no regard for their work, experience, or the personal hardship it may cause; for some personnel this was too much to bear. Dean makes his management decisions based on personal reasons and how it affects only Dean, regardless what it best for the Division or the police officers they serve.

Andrews is not a leader, he expects people to listen and follow because he wears a gold star and not because he has earned their respect for the position he holds. The difference between a good Commander and Dean is; Dean says, Go! – a true boss says, Let’s go!
Andrews cannot expect to hold the loyalty of his detectives when he speaks to them as if they are insignificant. Andrews its time to look and the mirror and see the person you have become and not the god you think you are!

"Clout may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there."

I'll tell you what I find interesting. No one seems willing to make the incredible assumption that since this sniper was a white kid, his entire race must therefore be defective--as would surely be case had he been black.

Is anyone else curious about how a thread about the Indiana Sniper has morphed into rants about the young fools (who happen to be black) who attacked the kid in Beverly? I sure am.

7/26/2006 09:43:39 AM

Maybeb the reason is because it happens so infrequently. One "crazy" white kid shot someone in Indiana the other day. How many "normal" black kids shot someone in Chicago yesterday? At least 2 that I can think of in Englewood alone! See the difference?

Police patrolled the streets and in the air in Hammond today after two more motorists reported being shot at while driving -- this week has seen three such incidents.

Infrequent is getting a little more frequent!!!!!

RE: "I don't recall"

All Daley had to do was say "huh"?
ask the question again for another "huh"?

then follow with "I dunno"

OR

silly, silly that's silly would do

Daley wanted those convictions when he was State's Attorney so he could get re-elected and run for Mayor. The State's Attorney worked with the cops.

Daley like all of us didn't want to go after Burge because he took care of the cop killers. They got what they had coming.

Devine was the attorney for Burge and now everyone is criticizing him. Times have changed and Daley will never take responsibility for what he knew and what happened. But what happened is not as bad as a lot of people say it was. Some of it was necessary.

Next time the bosses ask about your mover and parker activity don't forget the "KEY WORDS" I don't know, i forgot etc etc etc...

While regular working police get raked over the coals for "quotas", "indexes" the dog patrolman has nothing to worry about. When will MGT realize that there are strenths and weakness? Exploit them. You like traffic reward trafgfic asshole, you chase asshole and respond to jobs then reward that person. Don't hold EVERYONE TO THE SAME USELESS STANDARD!!!
WE ARE NOT THE PRIVATE SECTOR!!
