Seatbelt Checkpoint Incident

Channel 2, Channel 7 and the Sun Times cover a little escapade where someone didn't want to stop, probably over drugs, and how it led to a chase, something the Department wants to avoid at all costs.

Can anyone say "new procedures?" Because this time, we were lucky no one got killed.

Just a couple of quick things about this article.
#1 - Why is the word intentionally in quotation marks. Are they suggesting something fishy here or what?

#2 - More importantly, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD A COPPER EVER GO TO OUR LADY OF RESURRECTION. Everyone knows that should be called "Come here and you'll need a resurrection". That hospital has sucked for so many years it's not funny. Also, the offender was taken there as well. Not smart. The people at that hospital are not your friends, officers.

Anyway, back to the point, the SLUM-Times is useless. Why in the world does SCC continue to link to stories there? Doesn't the trib cover any of these or are you too upset about the situation with the Cubs?

3 YEARS AGO TODAY ON 30JUL03 AT ADDISON AND THE RED LINE, FTO PATRICK MCGREAL HAD HIS CHEEK BONE, NOSE AND EYE SOCKET BROKEN BY DRUNK CUBS FANS AS MCGREAL WAS WORKING CTA SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT. JUDGE SCHRIER GAVE ONE OFFENDER 6 MTHS IN COUNTY JAIL AND PROBATION AND THE OTHER OFFENDER MISD. PROBATION. NO JUSTICE.

I say change the process to ASA's getting paid on their conviction rate. But the conviction must be the original charge, no pleaing down to some BS.

Working on a commission instead of a salary might motivate these cowards to actually set foot in a courtroom for a trial instead of running and taking any plea in the world.

Don't know the whole story, just saw a blurb on the TV about a car chase where the offender smashed into a squad car and the chase was on. For traffic at first. The officers will take time unless they have someone drinking the Koolaid. The traffic review board hammers everyone unless you are parked and blocked in with no escape and someone hits you. This department amazes me with its'conflicting orders and training. We basically have a no chase policy due to the numerous restrictions, yet we need a chase car for seat belt enforcement. Let's see:
Traffic --- Nope
Stolen car (theft and traffic) --- Nope
Car avoiding check --- Nope
(No PC for anything)
And to top it off, we need a chase car that is unmarked!!! Never understood it and won't. Make up my mind. Either keep faking the enforcement because it has no teeth or we chase everyone who runs. The courts screw us too because they make it our fault that the shithead kills himself or someone else. Can't win when here. Can't win if you can't catch the bad guy either. Kind of screwed either way!

Brother, ease up a moment and comprehend what you read: When the officer on foot got ran over by the shit bag, then you are chasing an offender of an agg batt/attempted murder of a police officer. Shame on any one that attempts to call that one off...

Benefit coming up for P.O. Alexandra Martinez @ FOP Hall on 04 AUG 06 @6pm.
She was allegedly caught on Ford City security cam "beating" her prisoner. She was not placed at callback. She's being charged with misdemeanor battery.

Benefit for Bryan Vander Mey coming up on 16 AUG 06 @ Excaliber @ 6pm. Was falsely accused of "beating" convicted crack dealer, Rondell Freeman, who runs the crack empire on Burling in Cabrini.
Was charged by Dick Devine and co. of 4 counts of official misconduct and two counts of misdemeanor battery.
Was immediately sold out by CPD and given 30 and pending.
He has been fighting this for about 3 years while drug dealers sit and answer calls getting paid.
Was found not guilty by Honorable Judge Kazmeirski, but four months later is still not at callback, and still not getting paid.
Smeared in media and lost his house.
Good luck finding another police job if he's not re-hired, unless he's going to police in Rantoul.
Facts and evidence no matter, why me worry regarding political appology witch hunt? Just get me re-elected.

Why not help this guy out? He got f'd. White skin. Not female. No clout= No help.

It's too bad that we all can't come together. We could put this city in a strangle hold and get whatever we want. And F.O.P. could promote it and it would be totally legal. I'm not talking about a slow down or the blue flu or anything that would be unethical. All we would have to do is follow every general order and every law exactly to the letter. Write every case exactly the way it happened and testify to it exactly the way it occurred. 90% of the shit we put in jail will walk free. We have been hamstrung by these ridiculous general orders, and standards of probable cause required by felony review yet we still (we being the working police!) go out every day and risk life and limb locking shitheads up. Then we have to fall back on our creative writing skills just to get probable cause let alone a conviction. AND WHY!!! Because it's the right thing to do or evil prevails (a little dramatic but it's absolutely true). The bosses know it, the politicians know it, the judge knows it, the lawyers know it and even the jurys but were the ones that put everything on the line to lock these motherfuckers up. I know... now all the do nothings are asking why the workers even bother when they get paid the same on the 1st and the 16th. We'll for me, I just can't help myself. I love puting shit where shit belongs, and i'ts the RIGHT THING to do. But I can't blame guys that were workers and got spanked for bullshit and now do nothing but collect a check. Anyway I know this is a bit long but I'll get to the point. Anytime the F.O.P. wants to get serious about change we're ready. We can't stand by anymore while politicians chisle away at every benefit we have and every raise we deserve while passing increases on their own salarys uncontested(i.e. alderman and their bullshit $80,000 a yr part time job). I'm willing to relax and be a paper pusher while the city goes up for grabs. Only after chaos ensues will equality prevail (more drama but it sounds catchy...maybe I'll print up some t-shirts)!!!! Its time the POLICE were appreciated and respected for the work we do.

Yeah, two "innocent" coppers, who left video evidence of their stupidity and inability to control themselves. They did what they did, we all know it. Had they fessed up from the start, they wouldn't be where they are. Maybe taking 30, maybe less, but probably not getting charged. Instead, tell one lie after the next to try and cover yourself and look where you end up. No sympathy, sorry.

I smell law suit! Chicago Police
Department instigated the car chase and ensuing injuries, because of their seat belt checkpoint! They fail to maintain a secure and safe haven for private citizens. They should have realize and been prepared for such an incidents, especially since innocent citizens were injured via of their negligence.
The seat belt inspection location is an area supposively under the exclusive control of the CPD. Their negligence not only cause harm to the two injured citizens but endangered the immediate surrounding public, and was so inept in their safety measures, it also allow for two members of their department to be injured also. How many millions??

10:19. You are right also! Fuck! ....I still think it's worth a try. Gotta time it right. Around negotiation time. Simpler solution is to get rid of the FOP regime and also not fall for the puppet group they will put up to oppose them. If FOP majority were people satisfied with just wetting their beaks (face it, everyone wants SOME perks)and not greedheads that want more and more, they really would negotiate for us.

Sun Times May22 06

The original report listed Donahue's 2003 salary as $53,018, in- house attorney Thomas Pleines' as $103,938 and in-house attorney Paul Geiger's as $76,713.

After the complaints, the FOP amended its report to show Donahue's salary really was $142,742, Pleines' was $146,643 and Geiger's was $101,058.

In January, the FOP said it would no longer file charitable organization reports...

Because otherwise everyone sees what fuckin' crooks we are and how much we are making.

Anyone know what is the FOP Chicago Aviation Police LODGE 261? Why are they a separate lodge? They getting boned as bad as us?

First we haveto, no absolutely must, get rid of FOP. They have been useless since day one. They cut a deal with the city years before we got a contract and have lived up to that deal; the city gives you what we want and you keep quiet. FOP sold us out from the first contract up to and including this one.

Read the contract. It is not a union contract, it is a management contract.

FOP is not a union. Do police departments have specific unions like the firefighters have a national firefighter union? We can't strike we can't do a slow down this is all covered by law and there are too many good spots on the department to expect members to just go to work and do radio assignments. Guess this all means we are fucked. Look what the city just did with our co-pay drugs and where was FOP? Hey if you guys know any disabled coppers ask them the last time they had a cost of living increase. Notice how the FOP disability committee is helping them. But our politicians never miss a raise. Fuck this city fuck this state just do your time try to stay healthy and retire and get the fuck out of here.

To "The Truth shall set you Free":
No sympathy? Ok, so it was not the brightest idea to slap a smart mouth little thief who spit in her face in front of a camera. I agree. But she was FIRED...not suspended, not at call back, FIRED for slapping an offender. Not beating, just a slap. Not one mark on the little bitch and a good, hard working officer was made an example of for doing a lot less than most of us have done. I am not condoning any of her actions, but I feel she really got screwed on this one. I will be there to support a good person who is now going through a difficult time. Hope nothing ever happens to you that may cause you to need a benefit...if I knew you and how you treated other officers that got jammed up, don't count on me or many others to buy a ticket.

Lets get something straight. Bryan Vandermey is not and was not innocent. He was found not guilty based on a preponderance of the evidence. Bryan kicked the shit out of ol'boy. Dept overreacted and left him hand out to dry, which is something all of us should treat as an object lesson but Bryan and any other P.O. who can't keep his temper in check shouldn't be on the job. He's an English teacher and he can likely go back to teaching which is what he should do. Nobody tricked on him, certainly not the P.O. who testified. Out job is not to spin the truth, it is to tell the truth and the truth is that Bryan needs to move on with his life just like those of you who want to sing this old song should.

give you an award and then give you 30 pending

anyone doing police work for the City of Chicago has to be nuts, new to the job, or educationally challenged

Look out for yourself, your family, and your fellow officer's; not some boss who will give you a plainclothes car once a week for all your hard work

Get sued, get suspended, get smart

There are many misguided idiots on this website. First of all here is what gets you fucked up patrolmen in trouble...DENYING ANYTHING EVER HAPPENED...if you stupid assholes remember anything here is the golden rule to live by: DON'T DENY, JUSTIFY!!!!
As a homicide detective and someone who has investigated many, many police shootings (and helped out many many cops) the problems always arise when the evidence shows one action and your paper denies that action. LEARN TO JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS AND YOU WILL NOT BE SUED, FIRED, ETC. Denying the shit ever happened is what fucks you up...
And by the way I DON'T DO POLICE WORK FOR THE CITY, I do it for you guys when you're involved in a shooting and I do it to put the bad guys is jail for the rest of their fucking lives...

I do Police work and will continue to do Police work. Why you say? Because thats my job and thats what I'm paid to do. I'm not going to sit in my squad car all day, collect a check and do nothing just because some two minute wonder was stupid enough to loose his temper and get video taped beating some goofball gangbanger or slap a handcuffed prisoner around. Who won that one? The gangbanger or the copper? Who was the smart one that day? Is that what police work is now? No sir it's not. Thats just thuggery plain and simple. If you can't figure out how to defeat the beast without jamming yourself up, well perhaps my friend, it's time for you to find a different career.

I will continue to do Police work because there are people out there that depend on us to be there when the beast attacks. I would like to think that if my family was out and about and were in trouble that a Policeman would be there and that he would do his job, not sit back and do nothing or look the other way because some other Policeman got jammed up when he abused his power. There are many people that reside in this City that are good decent people that sometimes need our help. Are we to deny them that help or not do our job because one of us got caught doing something we shouldn't, because the Mayor doesn't like us, the FOP sucks, the City Council is filled with incompetent bozos, etc., etc.? No sir we shouldn't. When we took this job we also took an oath to do that job to the best that we can. I have always and believed that when I give my word to somebody to do something that I'm obligated to do it. It's called honor. When I hear somebody say that they aren't going to do their job because of the above reasons,it tells me that that person is just a looser who quit before he even started. The BS about why he's not going to do this or that is just that. Bullshit. It's just his way of justifying his being a lazy do nothing. It's just an excuse.People with that kind of mindset would find something to complain about no matter where they worked or what they did. Because thet are loosers.

Don't be a looser. Be a winner. Do the job that you signed up for to the best of your ability. Winners figure out a way to get around all the bullshit or negative aspects about this job. Loosers complain about their lot in life and how much the job sucks or how they aren't going to do anything.

One more thing before you rip away and start accusing me of "drinking the koolaid", working the desk, the CAPS office, the front office, downtown or any other place you would like to think that I work when you label me as an inside kiss ass, know this. I work the streets on the west side. For many years. I'm not an inside housemouse. FWIW.

"DON"T DENY JUSTIFY" and "LEARN TO JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS AND YOU WILL NOT BE SUED, FIRED,ETC," does not sound like what was said at all. Getting sued in federal court is all about money and if you were not right the city would not indemnify you. But don't be naive here most federal civil suits get settled few go to court. Being justified in your actions does not mean shit just means the Corp Counsel might fight the case which could end up being at your expense if you lose and the jury awards punitive damages. Now as far as this asshole department goes doesn't matter if you are right or wrong to them. The 30 pending comes if: your incident becomes a big racial or news item, if you have no clout and some boss has a hard on for or you God forbid you get in a domestic or any other type of politically correct issue of the day. Be serious here guys anybody with a little time on this fucked up department can think of at least one incident where some copper got fucked over for something some other copper got away with. Nothing to do with "truth justice or the American way" it is all about the departments way. Think about it guys the average normal copper takes 10 days or 30 pending whatever. The copper with clout maybe takes no time or alot less for the same shit. Now think about the shit some exempts have done and gotten away with.
