Cops Hurt in Wreck
- Two Chicago police officers are hospitalized in serious condition because of a crash on the city's South Side. Police say the officers were following a suspect in a marked police SUV with its lights and sirens at the time of the accident. That SUV and another vehicle collided around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
A person in that other car was also injured and taken to the hospital. There is no word who caused the crash. The officers were tracking down a suspect wanted in several armed robberies and homicides at the time of the accident.

Have a friend at the ER at Northwestern Mem. Hosp. who stated that the PO's were treated and released from the ER...so I assume they are fine (at least not hospitalized). Be safe, all, and remember to buckle-up.
Not to be a dick but I thought policy was no pursuits in the SUV's. Hope the Officers are doing well and I hope someone caught the shitbags they were following.

The coppers in 006, an acting FTO and a recruit, are doing OK. Tahoes are excellent vehicles to crash in, apparently. There's talk that the cause of the crash might be a small piece of equipment that failed. Stay tuned.

Two Police Officers Injured In Head-On Collision
Two Chicago police officers were hurt in a car accident Thursday on the South Side. WBBM's Steve Miller reports.
The two officers were involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle at East 83rd Street and South Indiana Avenue, about 1:15 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
Langford said the officers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
Both officers were from the Gresham District, Langford says.
The person in the other vehicle was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Authorities say the officers were responding to a call at East 83rd Street and South Maryland Avenue.

Now, will CPD go the usual Police route and try to take some form of disciplinary action against these guys? In Mass. they would.

Officers and other motorist OK they were responding to assist a foot chase of offender wanted for homicide and armed robbery. Crash was a T-Bone The police taho won.
My thoughts and prayers are with the officers. I hope they make a speedy recovery.
006th district officers are going to be okay, last we heard. They were responding to a call for assistance from other officers. Motorist the Tahoe came in contact with was enjoying a late lunch while driving. Probably smoking a cigarette, talking on the cell phone and scratching the buttoch area all at the same time too. I wonder if it was only truckers who bought their licenses sometimes.
The equipment on those Tahoes are shit!! Ours is down every other week for one thing or another. Usually its the lights or siren. Believe me, the leg room and arm rests are nice but not worth all that. Furthermore, I hate the door locks. They automatically lock when the vehicle is shifted from park and you have to hit the unlock button when getting out.
I'm glad the coppers are ok.
I'm sure the 3rd watch ladies are mad about losing their car though.

Annually, there are app. 150 Law Enforcement Officers killed in the "Line of Duty."
Contrary to public [us too] belief, the NUMBER #1 cause of death is vehicle accidents! Those stats are all-inclusive i.e. vehicle crashes, struck by vehicle, motorcycle accidents etc.
While 'firearms' are the #2 cause annually, most of the time we have no control over an ambush for example but we do have SOME control over our driving habits.
This is NOT intended as a lecture on safe driving, as God only knows how many bone-headed maneuvers "I" pulled over the last 30+ years 'on-the-job.'
No, it's a personal thing for me now. You see, I HATE Police funerals. I've been to too many of them. I've seen the hurt and can only imagine what the family goes through during this time.
The anniversary(ies), kids birthdays, Christmas, holidays etc. to name a few.
I'm sure our CPD Honor Guard would gladly disband tomorrow or limit their duties to 'Posting the Colors' at Award Ceremonies, if they knew that we would never, ever have to honor one of 'our own' again who made that 'Ultimate Sacrifice.'
But were all realists and know that it won't happen. History tells us otherwise.
We say it all the time, "Be safe out there, brother." Well, let's [all] practice what we preach. Use caution in your everyday [alleged routine] tour of duty. That includes, although not limited to our driving habits. Buckle-up. We're no help on a 10-1 unless we get there. We've all heard it before, watched it in the streaming videos and the like but we need to remind one another of our NUMBER #1 duty.............

Off duty Officer killed by drunk 20 yr old at 67th and Cicero early this morning. Only 29 years old. Will this make the news like it would if the roles were reversed. God Bless his mother and father!
The off duty P.O. that was killed was a phenominal person! There was only a quick segment on the ch.7 news last night and no newspaper articles today. If the roles were reversed you know it would be a major headline. God bless Tim Harts, his family and friends.
