No Gas

At least we aren't pushing the squad cars - yet:
  • Police in south suburban Dixmoor said their squad cars' gas tanks are empty and they need permission to fill them up. A policy requires officers to get gas money directly from the mayor every time they want to fill their tanks. The village pays for it, but the mayor has to approve it every time. (Channel 5)
Problem solved?
  • Officials in south suburban Dixmoor say they have solved a budget problem that left many police squad cars without gasoline. The police department had no money to fill up the cars. Some village trustees say this has been a problem for the last few weeks. They were concerned that the safety of residents could be in jeopardy.

But, Wednesday afternoon, officials said the crisis is now over. (Channel 7)

As the rumors have started flying about the City wanting to cut Police expenditures by about $50 million dollars for next year, might the suggestion be made that we could do without gasoline? Or how about we discontinue yearly qualifications? Or eliminate 3 districts? Aha, now we're getting somewhere.

LOL When Mayor LACKLuster was in office, many of the part time Dixmoor cops would roll in late, if they even showed up, would barely rack up any mileage making patrol because they parked the car and slept. What difference does it make anyway? The majority of those residents sleep all day and come out and night (collect'in the welfare checks)

Wonder what's going on with that lawsuit amongst a few of the cops that left there? Reverse discrimination...

I still wonder what the "city" does with the monies that are budgeted and collected each year to pay the salaries of the more then 1000 police officers that don't exist.

Talking about gas, I heard that a Copper or Sgt. from A/3 just got jammed up filling his personal car at the police pump.

The TRU house mouses need to fax over to the city wide the daily line up showing how many females are working and on what cars. The same few females answer up each and every time. We greatly appreciate their cooperation and assistance. As for the other 75% that refuse to answer up for female searches and pat downs - DO YOUR JOB - LAZY!!!!! Oh yeah, since we're on the topic of gas. STOP leaving my car on empty you lazy f*c*! I can see if you had all sorts of activity from your tour and you locked somebody up late and you didnt have time to fill up. Okay, cool - no problem. But when you come in with 0's every single day, the least you could do is fill it up so the workers that give a s*i* can go out and do police work without first having to go fill the car up. Stay Safe - Watch Your Back.

Why do bosses need door to door free transportation? Let's face it, 90 percent of the cars parked at 35th street stay there all day and NEVER ARE SEEN AT THE SCENE OF A CRIME. They say that they need cars to respond to emergencies. When was the last time anyone saw one of the 35th street wonders at the scene of an emergency?

How about dumping the civilians in HQ? Or, how about employing people that want to be real street police instead of the collegiate crap that wants to end up on the inside with in 3 yrs of their start date?
Budget? The city did this to itself and the rest of us have to pay for it. The solution is easy. Do away with the college requirements and drop the new start pay wages 3 or 4 grand. Oh yeah, and bring back the height requirement, too many shorties on the job. It's a joke to see a height challenged person in uniform trying to do a grown ups job. It should be at least 5'8" or taller. Does your appearance command respect?

Eliminate 3 districts? Boy thats a tough one!! Lets see, how bout 15,11,and whoever's got Hyde Park(I heard Southern California was building an embassy there). Those folks seem to hate our guts there on the westside so lets withdraw the troops and call it "mission acomplished"!!!
Segways?? Whoever mentioned about that 001 Commander was right. I worked at Grant Park off duty at Laffapoluzza weeks ago and saw him driving around on one; he sure is a busy little weasle on that thing! He dont seem to miss anything.

Who was that budgetary genius who related to the press not too long ago that the new CPD shall be computerized and it shall eliminate the need (and cost) of PAPER. ???

All I see lately is a total disregard and waste of paper. It's amazing...even I can see it , it must be bad! Tons of waste per day.
Especially in the Areas.

What is the annual budget expense, for the CPD, for paper alone?

Does anyone remember the day when you were told to up the parkers and movers because the city was low on revenue?

I think I'm getting dizzy from this merry-go-round.

Be safe

They could easily eliminate three districts. How about 021, 013, and 023. All three of them are in old antiquated stations that will cost millions to replace, and all three are relatively quiet. That would also open up resourses to split 008 into two districts which should have been done long before now. I am sure that this won't happen though due to political considerations.

I don't blame you though, as soon as you retire you will probably die without this fucking job. Sad.

I remember the good old day's....driving around in an old Dodge,no air,no computer, radio in the car,no power steering one man cars 24/7,weekends coming up-oops, day off group change, sitting for hours in court after working the 1st watch and getting time due hour for hour after three hours(no overtime). Wore a towel around the neck in the hot summer to absorb the sweat and wipe it off your face, dirt would blow up from the floorboard and coat you like a corndog. Yup, the good ole day's. All of that shit and we treated each other better.

Yep, I remember the school bus incident. I was standing by the front gate when it pulled up and they triedto get in. Some ignorant copper brought his kid's park daycamp out there. I was standing there when the FOP guys told them no. It was great. One of the FOP guys said (not sure which one) said the same thing was pulled the year before but they let them in. They came back the next year with more.

I agree with you. All these people who came on since about 1990 do is whine, complain, and cry. The wave general orders in their fellow cops faces, threaten to get cr#s on them, and if you even raise your voice to them, they run and cry to the boss- wah wah wah, he yelled at me, my mommy and daddy never did that, get a cr# now.

A/C not working in the car? We did not have it at all. We had to carry rubber bands to hold the damn cars together. You did not want to rub up against one either; you might get tetnaus from all the rust.

But we did have one thing. We took care of each other and we solved our own problems with each other. We were adults. We also did what we were told. They had ways of dealing with dissenters, whiners, and crybabies. Your life was made miserable until you confomred or left- the watch or the unit. Now, even the bosses have no guts. They let this stuff get out of control.

Racist cops- black or white- we left that stuff at home. We may not have talked to each other or socialized together, but we backed each other up and every damn one of us participated in the beatings and wood shampoos. No one tried to stop it or claimed some weird racist BS. We did what had to be done.

Too many spoiled brats who never worked a day in their lives have ruined this gig. This was a real job, with the real police, who did the job the way it was supposed to be done. Oh yeah, "down town" was the same then as it is now.

Oh, yeah, I am sober as I write this, I do not own an Irish wife beater shirt, am not eating pizz or anything else, and hate to go to work everyday because of all you whining, snivelling, little brats who are the play police.

I remember when we had a similar problem. A gas shortage. The wagons had stationary posts and had to stay there until they got a job and had to retrun there when the came clear. We were told to eliminate any unnecssary driving. They would not fix the A/C in the few cars that had it.

The gas shortage was not caused due to the high cost of gas or a supply problem. The problem was caused because the main supplier refused to give the city any more gas until, and only until, the city paid their bill. It took months to straighten this out.

It’s amazing when everyone starts blaming the rookies for the downfall of everything. You too were a rookie and the old timers back when there were no police vehicles, no police radio (creaker)-look it up, and no blah, blah, blah this or that were complaining about you. Look on the ISP blog, it’s the same shit on a different site. If you are so experienced and know everything, there are many private sector jobs that can use you. This reasoning is so trite and is about the same as when someone calls another a racist—it’s the easy way out and pathetic.

A rookie didn’t go up on stage and hug Meeks.

Ya the guys who talk about taking care of each other are right. No A/c but lots of support. No a/c unless you were like one unnamed PO who showed his ingenuity: went to the ice house every tour got the huge block of ice put it in the back seat area of the squad, used an ice pick and hammer to poke wholes in the floor area, covered the ice with a tarp, rolled up the windows and had a/c. Yes, no fop, no a/c no caps, but lots of fun.

It’s amazing when everyone starts blaming the rookies for the downfall of everything.

But we learned and became real policemen. We have guys with over fifteen years on this job who wear Depends to work because they are soooooooooooo fearful of everything, including themselves. There is no code anymore, no Blue Wall, no honor and fidelity.

All we have now are thirty and forty something adult cry babies and rats. They should leave if they do not like police work. Real police work is tough. It is more than going to Starbucks, writing an ANOV, or graqbbing a one bagger and then bragging about all the work they did. The only thing these guys can brag about is knowing the GOs and Rules.

Big deal. Bring back some of the real so called old timers. I know a few seventy and eighty year olds who who make this kids cry.

You know, things started to change when we eliminated the shift rotation. We all had the same issues of Midnights, Afternoons, Days. We all had the same child care, sleeping, and eating issues. I know that this was not good for us and most of us will pay for it with a shortened life span but we were all there for each other because we were all having the same problems.

Between ending the rotation, Rodney King, OJ Simpson, and all the other crap that California brought us, the brotherhood of blue is no longer alive. I mean now we are all there for each other to a point primarily becuase the Judicial system has wet dreams about putting an officer in jail for anything.

We are seeing how sticking together gets multiple persons in jail and they throw conspiracy charges around like confetti, if it sticks to you "do not pass go, do not collect $200". Officers are getting thrown to the lions because from "reverend" who has no idea what happened gets his mug on tv calling for "justice". Unfortunately, it has changed our job, and not necessarily for the better.

Some other guys have blamed steady watches for us not sticking together. What do you think it is about our old rotating shifts that made us more unified? I don't buy that it was just sharing misery. I feel I still have a lot of misery in common with guys on the other watches;
Health Care that gets shittier each day and will dissappear 2013.

Pension gone soon. Don't kid yourselves -the city stopped paying in cuz they're gonna let it tank and figure they might as well start keeping the money now.

Clout bosses and their snot-nosed kids in good spots

Is it possible we stopped being united when we thought we didn't have to? That is, when we THOUGHT we had a union representing us, taking care of this shit? Stopped thinking we needed to take care of ourselves cuz we had people doing it for us? Opinions?

Rotating watches every 28 days SUCKED!!! Going to straight watches is NOT what caused the problems that we're seeing.

In my 31 years on the job, the job definitely did NOT get any better. It got worse as time went on. Was it because of bosses? I don't think so. We've always had dunderheads as big bosses on this job. Maybe not as many as we have now but they were always there. There used to be more bosses who looked out for the guys they knew were out there doing the job. Was it because of the caliber of people who came on the job? Was it because society in this country changed? That would be my guess. When the department made college mandatory to come on this job, you started getting MOSTLY kids that had never been in the military and had never done anything on their own. They went from high school, living with mom and dad, to college and came right on this job with absolutely NO idea what it meant to be an adult or to have to make serious decisions for themselves. They bought the crap that liberal academia spooned into their brains. They don't know any better. Not every one of them but a definite majority of them. Now, the policy has been in effect long enough that some of these people are getting promoted.

You can take this to the bank: it is NOT going to get any better on this job unless and until society changes enough to realize that, if things stay as they are, this country is doomed.
