Another Black Eye

Numerous commentators, e-mails and such are telling us about a PO who was standing lineups at Area 4 in FULL UNIFORM after allegedly being caught trying to cash a forged check at the Patrolmen's Credit Union.

What the F#$%?

Are we completely populated by morons? We're in the middle of the biggest scandal since Broken Star and we have some softball trying to cash a check for a million bucks? Who in their right mind tries to steal a million on bad paper? You want a million dollars, you do what Henry Hill, Jimmy Burke and the boys did knocking over a currency transfer at Lufthansa or something similar. You don't try to pass a badly forged check at a credit union.

NEWSFLASH: We doubt there are 10 local banks outside of the Federal Reserve Bank that would even dream of keeping a million on hand.

UPDATE: The Sun Times article

As I stated earlier, was this PO also charged with felonious stupidity??? Attempted to CASH 1 mil at the credit union?? Unf*ck*nbelievable. TV news states claims to be a "settlement" from Great America. Does the PO know that this will be verified by the dics??? Huh???

What is really sad is the fact it took those property crime (oh, exuse me, the RBT) dics all of a month to put forth the arrest on the " million dollar check " offender. Talk about a bunch of sluggos. They must of been having a sluggo convention in town with each of the lazy asses not wanting to get their fat asses out of the chairs. That is the real black eye to the police department.

I got this check in the mail for 2,000,000.00. from a national, well known publishing house. But it's got this word over the numbers, it says V-O-I-D. Maybe if I erase that word, VOID....maybe.....just maybe..hmmmm.

That's pretty darn stupid...

Banks DO carry a crap load though..

Recently (well, a few months ago, but no later than 6 months) there were a rash of bank robberies in my county, and they took off with 400,000+ from one bank, out of all of the banks these guys robbed this was one of two that didn't have a timelocked safe, and, well now they just completly redesigned the inside of the bank, enclosing the safe.. but they DO carry alot of money... who knows, it could have been the day before their truck arrived with money...

They caught those nuts a couple of weeks after at another heist gone sour..

But, to cash a bad check, now what kind of idiot would do that.. Like you said they were better off going and doing something bigger.. hell go out with a bang.. If you're going to try something than go for the gold.. You will get caught eventually...

Umm...the credit union is 3 blocks away from the academy. You remember that place, right? That would be in 012. Remember the police station 1 block from the academy? 012 is in Area 4. Crimes are classified by the address of occurrence, not the offenders address of employment. I understand that she was under suicide watch at Area 4. Don't know her where abouts.

On another note: I received information that CMDR. MATHEWS received his star back and is now in records. Cline was told by the Mayor to give it back, and Cline instructed B.Woods to give it to him.

Can anyone confirm this?

This incident occurred over two weeks ago. The report was given directly to the area dicks. Along with the check for $1 million, the dummy gave a "letter from a judge" detailing what the money was for. There were many misspelled words, along with poor vocabulary. Time for the credit union to drop using police or Patrolmen in their title and get the CPD squad car off their cards. They can always revert to the mock costume with a Maloney face. After all Halloween is right around the corner. The mock uniform most have been aware of the Maloney embezzlement, and figured ahhh why not keep the tradition alive.

The goverment fails to protect us as citzens and ignores the laws they choose to ignore. Is that known illegal still in that church? Funny thing is, it is believed her sister helped F*** her over on this one. My theory is this... Her sister told her she was getting a settlement check from Great America. For whatever reason, she told her P/O sister she couldn't deposit the check (who knows, in the ghetto, using only currency exchanges instead of banks, its possible)... Figuring her PO sister held a position of trust in the public, etc. But his PO (Who did regularly fuck people over on the schedule) sadly finally got what she deserved. 005th District is getting better... One arrest at a time...

She's a winner, she got the check and got on TV, now she will get a DOC jumpsuit and be able to write a book of her deeds and probably get a short sentence for being so stupid.

Then when the book comes out, she has the book (upfront money) to kick back on. Way to go sista!

A little update here:
Before she "cashed" her million $ check, she and her sister tried to commit a fraud by having the sister (with the PO’s ID card) go to the CU and withdraw $700.00. A week later she went in and said that she was the victim of identity theft and it was not her that withdrew $700.00. It's all on tape.
Also, the teller could not ID her in the line up yesterday for the million $ check fraud.
Who can't remember someone trying to cash a one million dollar check?
Is there collusion here?
Just asking

Not only that, unlike in patrol, where you handle your one big caper at a time, you have multiple cases going on at the same time.

Maybe they had to get subpoenas, maybe they worked gathering information and paperwork, maybe they had to go out to Gurnee to interview Great American Executives.

Is a month a long time? I don't think so.

Hot off the presses. On the same day this brain trust attempted to deposit her $1,000,000 check, her momma was on the south side trying to deposit a check for $2,000,000 and 3 (not 1, not 2, but 3) checks for $85,000, all from Great America!

The bank questioned her and she said it was for a settlement her daughter and grandkids won for injuries suffered at G.A. Oh yeah, she said her daughter (the P.O. - she even gave them her name) gave her the checks to deposit

The cashier told her they wouldn't be honored at this time. She was called back to the bank and spoke to a manager, who told her "no go." The 3rd time when the bank called, she told them her lawyer said she didn't have to talk to them. Hmm, only guilty people call their lawyers ahead of time.

Bank didn't make out report until today because the owner/head cheese was out of town, but when he read today's paper and saw the name, he called 911.

There goes the "not guilty be reason of insanity" defense. Looks more and more like a conspiracy. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

These are some really stoopid people. Anyone with half a brain knows that if/when a lawsuit is won/settled, the check is made out to the attorney, who takes his 33% off the top first. He then cuts you a check for the remainder or prepares a wire transfer.

A month is wayyyyy toooo long ...unless it was turned over to IAD .... how can you even make that silly argument here's the investigation ...

talk to teller ... have her view photo array

talk to Great America and find out if the check is valid (get identifiers when they say its not)

pinch the offender ... talk to her

do physical lineup

contact felony review ...

that should take about 1/2 of a shift ...

You get a case like that in your inbox and you do it right away ...

wow ...i've heard of apologists but gimme a break ...

and ya I used to do check cases ...
many, many, many of them

The offender stated to teller that she was authorized in that she got it in a lawsuit ... so she can't claim "I didn't know it was a bad check" as many do ... and therefore charge is rejected

"I got it in the mail" and " I used to work for a company and I thought this was the company"

If you would take a month to handle that ... no wonder you got 40 cases in your box

To: 5:55:35,
Yea, you said it like a Pro. Talk to the teller. O.K. make arrangements first. You ever heard of peoples schedules and inability to be interviewed right away for such and such reason? Next, Go to Great America and interview the executives. Like they will be ready and willing to see you right away cause you are the President or something. Again, schedule conflicts etc...
O.K. now this is probably in between the other jobs that the Check Dicks get so give em a break. Plus they get days off just like everyone else. Next they finally do have an interview with the teller and she views a photo spread. Who knows if it was positive or negative. Next, considering that this is a sworn member, you want to be careful about the arrest etc... They may have made some kind of arrangements for her to come in and straighten things out etc...It's not like they didn't know where to grab her or something. I'm sure I.A.D. did a parrallel investigation if they didn't take control of the whole thing. Next, Line-Ups etc... and interview/interrogation. I'm sure lawyers were involved also. Plus the S.A.O. probably waited the full 48 hours to charge the offender as they would normally do on such a case involving a P.O.

I'm saying that you must be on some good rock if you think this could be done in half a shift like you said in your posting. You need to give these Finincial Crimes Detectives some slack here. W.T.F.??? And yea, they do get inundated with a shitload of cases. Most of the time, they involved numerous documents that need a subpoena before they release them to the Police Department. A forty case load is actually a modest number for a Financial Crimes Detective. Ask around and maybe you'll learn something.

With all due respect, Detectives out there, YES, taking one whole month to arrest that officer for forgery IS a loooong time! It's not like you had to go out and try to ascertain this woman's identity,
or fly to Austrialia to find out if the owners of Great America would cooperate. I'm glad you finally got around to locking this woman up. Personally, I think the woman was on some sort of meds, or she's suffered a complete psychotic break from reality. I may be optimistic, but I cannot accept that an officer with that much time on the job could have been soooooo stupid as to believe she could actually pull that crap off. Gotta be a screw loose, or an abuse of antidepressants or whatever else her doc described....has to be!

It's a little hard to give someone the benefit of the doubt when the crime is caught on video.

Black or white has nothing to do with it. Ohhh acutally it does, the video is in black and white-sorry.

In regard to Grant's Tomb, 06:58:03 is technically correct, in that President Grant and his wife Julia are not actually buried within.

The bodies of both Grant and his wife are each contained inside an above ground sarcophagus.

This PO should be indicted for pure stupidity. No bank is going to cash a check for a mil. If they did, they would try to talk you out of it and have it deposited. If you deposit it, it will not clear until it is verifed, a hold is put on it, unless the check was issued by that bank.

As to the long time for the investigation; maybe they wanted to make sure they had all their ducks in a row so they could arrest her, indict her, and fire her. Who cares how long it took. She got slammed and hopefully thedoor will slam behind her in a cell.

I never "stood together", and I do not beleive most real cops did, with the SOS goofs and the very few who did and wrote their mulitiple posts were morons. I hope they get theirs to.

Oh no! Please say it ist'n so. Is that a double standard I'm smelling from some of you STAND UP PRICKS? You clowns disgust me, with your "lets all hang together" crap. Sure, hang together, but if the trespasser is black--toss them under the train. Benefit of the doubt? What doubt?

Of course you did, of course.

No doubt you also had to walk 5 miles to school in 10 feet of snow when you were a kid.

Unless you were personally involved you have no idea why it took one month.

Could it possibly be something other than the "bunch of sluggos" that didn't want to get "their fat asses out of the chairs?"

Hey 5:55:35 am, you’re a moron! There was a question that the offender might be her sister who used her identity in the past. Also it took nearly 2 weeks for the check to return from the clearing house stamped counterfeit. Unless of course you’re the expert who will testify in court as to how and why it's counterfeit. Took nearly a week for the vendor to come out and download a copy of the video. No department computer has the program to play it so wait a few more days for data systems to get administrator ability to download program. Bad mouthing the Detectives who handled this case is completely irresponsible. You have no facts of the case but are completely willing to pass on your moronic opinion. Enjoy your retirement on a P.O.’s pension because you will never make rank, which is a good thing!

Ya it sounded like I was badmouthing the Dics handling the case. I didn't mean it that way (if I did I'd say so.) I meant to bad mouth the "I have 40 cases" guy. Was that you? Maybe I can come over and help you with you tremendous burden. Or maybe you can fly in the SWAT team or something.

I am a dic already. Have been for awhile. Used to do Financial Crimes in an area. Thanks for the concern about my pension, too, goof.

I was only reacting to whoever said, more-or-less, that a month is understandable because "I have 40 Cases." Well I've had 70 in my box at one time. You can't let it worry you.

I would never make an initial statement simply to ball bust the dics. I just responded to the ridiculous apologist. I also allowed that IAD may have been involved. If I saw that case in my inbox ... I would put it at the front of the line, not to fuck the cop ... but because you know you are gonna have to answer for it... so might as well do it. I don't have any knowledge of the case ... wasn't involved ... don't want to be involved.

But to say a month is fine because of a 40 case load? Was that dic implying he put it at the back of the line? That was my only point of contention. It wasn't a violent crime so a month is no big deal in that sense. I only meant I would have been on it. And you get a hold of the teller RIGHT AWAY ... you get a hold of Great America RIGHT AWAY. I've never had the purported issuer of a check give me a hard time ... you just go out there and do it. I do have a question as to why the check in question was submitted to the clearing house by the Credit Union ??? You don't need a check stamped 'counterfeit' to get felony charge. You would need a check twice presented and twice returned for Non-Sufficient Funds to get a deceptive practice charge, and in that case you would have to put the check through the banking system. But for a counterfeit check, Great America can testify that they did not issue the check. Usually, especially in a silly case like this, the bank would call the issuer immediately to determine the checks authenticity. IMMEDIATELY. If the Credit Union did not do it SHAME ON THEM. They just submitted it to the clearing house? Sounds incredible. It's definitely silly. They should have called the issuer then generated a forgery case report ... done deal. Possibly they submitted it and didn't tell anyone of the incident then filed police report after receiving check from clearing house. Again, shame on them for not getting on the horn. It could have been her sister ... fine. I didn't mean to show I was right. I just meant to refute whoever stated a month "is fine."

One month is STILL fine if there were reasons for it other than some lazy detective.

I don't do financials but I understand from MY EXPERIENCE as well that sometimes gathering evidence, conducting interviews, waiting for others assistance in an investigation can take time. As long as what you are doing is documented in a progress report, a month is not a long time.

You don't know the particular ins and outs of this case, but you sit in your arm chair ready for judgement.

If it was a lazy dic fine, I don't have a problem calling them on it. If however, you are merely focusing on the one month because YOU think its too long without knowing the particulars, then you are the problem.

I am willing to acknowledge that there are other factors besides some lazy dic for this case to have taken a month to sort out. You apparently are not.
