Ethics for Everyone!

Recently, the Department has been subjected to the insanity of the Aldercreatures, who passed an Ordinance requiring ethics training for all City employees on an annual basis. This is in addition to the "conflict of interest" certification sent out yearly and half a dozen other bits of goofiness that have just about nothing to do with police work.

Think about it - we are keeping 11,000 people off the street for an hour or more so that they can undergo "ethics training." Something that should have been caught somewhere along the line via training, pysch testing, interviews, instructor evaluations, FTO grading and who knows what else. Now we have to sit and take a test to show we know that it's wrong to beat people, take money and accept free stuff.

Who knows how much 11,000 hours are worth? And how could it be better spent?

Yep oec folks have to take ethics training too. Come in 2 hrs before work. "Please sign your name on the date you will be attending." So far no one has signed up.
What if I don't pass!?
Is there a retest? Is it passing by attendance? Are we graded? If I do really really well.. will that be taken into consideration on my pending CR?

Nothing wrong with this training, there's alot of people who come on this job and after 1 or 2 years under their belt MIGHT need a refresher course. Those few years sometime blur their visions to reality and they apparently start beliving in their own hype

I guess Ald. Shirley Coleman had not yet received her on-line ethics training before she vouched for real estate consultant Tracy Williams. Tracy is involved in multiple swindles reaching seven figure sums. Tracy & Shirley are in business together even to the point where Tracy remodeled Shirley's office as a "surprise" gift. Then Tracy stiffed the contractors. Steal little, steal big...that is the Chicago way. Of course now that the G is investigating, Shirley should get the most current ethics training. If only she had gone to the website.

Rosty, Ryan, Shirley; so greedy they steal every penny they can. Now Elvis Blagojevich is caught with a $1,500 check from his best friend. Then the friends wife gets a job in front of veterans. Anyone remember the name of Aldercreature that took $1,500 to let contractors fly dump bio-hazard material across the street from his office at Roosevelt & Kostner. He went on a Federal vacation.

Some people even have to be reminded that they are police officers.

You either have ethics or you don't Ethics is something that is taught from birth... from your family....after that... you simply have ethics or you don't...and if you don't have ethics you end up as an.... opportunist simply waiting for your turn....there is a rule... don't do the little stuff and you won't do the bigger stuff....ethics and politics do not mix.....

True, true, all true.
Don't forget Laski.
Unreal. Why put your job and pension at risk for a few dollars?
Because if your a foolish enought o think that what they are charged with is all they did, you are new.
Yes this is an opinoin, not proven fact. But I think we can make an educated guess that a people like Laski, Rostinkowski, Judges, Lawyers, elected officals, P.O.'s
have been flying under the radar for some time. They finally got caught. It isn't worth risking your job/pension/reputation for anything. But, if you're getting freebe after freebe, money hand over fist. One might be willing to take the chance.
Free food
Free airline tickets
Free services
Free tickets to events
Special permits to build
Special pricing
Inside information
Etc.

It all started with the corrupt Cook County court system, and is still fueled GREYLORD.

I have not taken the test yet, but maybe I'll just answer all the questions wrong.....ha ha ha.......I never had a temptation to be a theif on any job I worked because of a good moral upbringing by my parents. I love my freedom and being with my family. Lets see take 11,000 police times $26 dollars a hour that is $286,000 thousand dollars if everyone takes the test. How many city workers besides the sworn police? Wow, all that money could go to our health care benefits, pensions, sidewalk repair in front of houses etc. Prosecute those that violate our trust, Aldermen, Police, MAYOR, Degnan, Joyce, etc. Greed had take away and made those people unethical. Take away what they have ($$)from their trusted positions in their civil duties. The Feds need to Consent Decree the whole City of Chicago Government!

I really really really hate political correctness and all the liberal bullshit on this job. Blacks will be blacks (not African American) Whites will be Whites, etc.

Oh, and my ballpark figure for what the hours break down to is ROUGHLY (read VERY roughly) just over or under 400K.

Will the annual ethics apply to all city employees and all politicians. As to the dept. Will this even be taken serious by all the dsk/wtch sec's. that use the circular file for their friends absences along with their play supervisors, Lt's and even CMDR's. Add on their pals who forget they should be at work or simply can't seem to recall what their hours are, let alone what days they work. Everyday throughout the city year in year out. Let's see it's called theft. They call it a perk and then bully mob the honor ables that would dare too so much as even whisper get your act together, have to guard the theft perks at all cost. Is it even possible real theft may very well start out in small ways, then grow the more your able to keep it within a click circle. Naw that thinking might be called logic something the city seems not to have.

Annual Ethics what a joke and a waste of time! The city won't hold it's self let alone management accountable and were to trust in annual ethics training. How does this actually affect all those city employees and elected officials who seem to think their private contractors with private perks. We don't even know as taxpayer's what benefits package Alderperps have. Don't make me laugh.

Ethics never did and does not apply to the in house tee hee click, clout. This is just more BS paper for the city to hang their hat on when they get a target. Remember the city is not proactive it's reactive. The city will flag wave the signed ethics document, allowing them to twist even further from their own lack of true accountability. Biz as usual the stage hands can be reached via of cell not to worry not all city phones are caller ID ready. Let the show continue, now pass the popcorn.

Is it ETHICAL to meritoriously promote anyone who did not truly earn the promotion by excellent police work rather than the fact he or she is some bosses pal/driver/secretary? Or even wore obviously incompetent racists?

Please reply 1st Dept. Sup

Da mayor wants everyone in the city to save their rain water run off and use it for watering their lawns and gardens, instead of the hose next to house. Soon to be an ordinace on this. WTF? Tickets for anyone who gets caught for not saving rain water. More $$$ out our pockets and into the politians. what next? Tickets for inhaling too much air on the lake front when jogging? Time to move.

After much deliberation and several tall whiskeys, I am announcing my candidacy for the Mayor of The City of Chicago!

Why am I announcing this on the "Ethics" post? Because thats what I'm all about! Ethics and the end of Clout as we know it! I'm calling it the "Come Get Some" campaign!

I want to bring all the corruption out in the open! Corruption occurrs because some political hack gets a city contract then gets greedy and doesn't want to share! We share! We'll give you that reach around you so rightfully deserve!
I'm here to offer each and every citizen in this fine city and its suburbs a "contract for your vote". You vote for me and I'll give you $50 dollars! Thats right, I want folks to know that I can be bought. Why keep it in the dark!
You're probably asking well what do I get for my hard earned $50? We'll that first $50 is to get me into office! After that you can send me more if you want! The more you send me the more you get back! Want to make detective? Send me $1000 and your new detective star is in the mail! Want to be a Lt.? $7500 buys you a brand new and shiny "butter bar". Want to be superintendent? If you gotta ask the price you probably can't afford it! Remember you still got to "rise through the ranks". So start saving and dream of that big promotion you've always wanted!
You maybe asking how is that ethical? Easy! If everyone has a chance to give to me and my campaign, how can it be corrupt and unethical? Everybody will know how the system works! All you have to do is give and give generously!
But you ask what if I'm a broke ass mother-f$%&er? Well then I got a job for you! Just remember you'd have to "give back" a little for that job you just got. Wanna be a truck driver? Well that costs $5000. For monthly payments of $299.95 plus 19% APR for 10 years you can have that job til I get re-elected!

It's gravy train and reach arounds for everyone! So remember, "Come Get Some"!

This ad was paid for by the "People to re-elect Rod Blowjobavich" since they lost their checkbook in a theft from auto.

I agree everyone could probably use a refresher course, but some of those who are blatant "ethics" abusers are those higher up the ladder in the PD and/or in city politics, i.e. alderfolk.

I think merit promotions should be eliminated based on to questionable ethical procedures in the merit system.

Ethics: the study of the general nature of morals and of the specific moral choices to be made by the individual in his/her relationship with others.

Not to be confused with....

Clout: power, prestige, or influence.

The whole promotion system needs to thrown out. A requirement for just one felony arrest is a good place to start. Way to many dip shit, never made even one felony arrest white shirt on this job. And they are not meritorious.

What happens if you don't take it. Is it a CR? Day off?
