Quick Hits

Bunch of small stories we just had to publish:
  • The City's first Wal-Mart opens Wednesday in Austin. Watch the media trumpet that every single store that ends up closing is because of Wal-Mart's low prices. Amazing how everyone on the left wants to tell you how to spend your money, isn't it? Now shut up and watch capitalism work it's magic on the West side.
  • The slave "reparations" lawsuit gets another hearing Wednesday. With luck, it'll be tossed out on it's lack of merit and standing once again. As we've stated before, reparations are paid to the survivors, not the descendents. If you can find us someone who can prove that they were a slave, we'll kick in to the pot. But punishing citizens corporations for a practice that was legal at the time it was undertaken is insane. WARNING: we will not publish any comments on this story should they not meet a very high standard of cognizant thought processes.
  • Burglar caught with the loot beats the rap - don't even mind the fact that he had 7 previous burglary convictions. And a padlock in his pocket that was from the victims apartment. Just more proof that the Illinois Appellate Court is staffed with morons.
  • Evidently, the city has found a simple way to diversify the Fire Department. And it looks like they took a page out of the Lieutenants exam handbook - make it simple enough so that EVERYONE passes. Then lie through your teeth, throw everyone into a "well qualified" pool and claim the hiring process is blind. Aldercreature Rugai worries that the CFD won't get the "best" qualified candidates. We're afraid she's making sense.

About the test scoring for the Fire Dept.

"Aldercreature Rugai worries that the CFD won't get the "best" qualified candidates."

Unfortunately Rugai's Idea of "best qualified" means that the apllicants must be black.

Let games begin.

I hate to say it, but unless they find the offender's fingerprint or some other identifying evidence in that apartment, there is not enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did the burglary.

And Im not a liberal softie either.
But right is right. What I know and what I can PROVE are often 2 differnt things

I am confident I will be called off this new list. I feel for those who truly wanted a job on the fire department but also remember back in 1995 when I wasnt "so fortunate". The system stinks....I will try to break the "code" as to how I arrived at my "randomly assigned number". I am glad I am on the police department.

Rugai making sense? That would be amazing. This women has not made sense for a while now.

I still remember when Rugai simply missed the vote on that Hampton street sign issue. Amazing.

Does the city of Chicago have a website that discloses where the city's government is going? If so, I would love to see it. If not, maybe we should ask our alderman for a bill similar in style that was recently signed by the president called Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act. I doubt the aldercreatures would go for it, but I'd love to see a response from them.

My great-great grandfather fought in the Battle of the Wilderness for the North. He was maimed and spent years in agony recovering. My grandmother said after the war he was never the same, and the family suffered immeasurably. When do I get my check? When will these "leaders" in the black communitty admit that a culture of perpetually being victims only helps these false "leaders." Never, as long as the Rainbow-push paychecks keep coming in. Where is the anger from the intellects in the black communitty???

Those who want reparations should be careful what they wish for because they just might get it. And if they do, that should be the end of preferential hiring, preferential promotions, "disadvantaged" scholarships, etc., etc., but aren't all of those things already a form of reparations?

I'm glad that Wal-Mart has opened on Austin. Channel 9 news this a.m. says Menards and CVS are soon going up across the street. Hopefully, more will sprout up in the hoods so Chicago Ridge, Orland and the outlying suburbs will become safer.

NO! NO! NO! to reparations. Many ethnicities have been enslaved and treated 10X worse than the blacks in this country who were enslaved for what? 100 something years? other "whites" were enslaved for hundreds of years and slaughtered. Jews, Greeks, armenians, assyrians, and others for religious persecution. You dont see them demanding reparations. Gimme a break and get on with your lives for crying out loud!

Anyone remeber senate candidate Alan Keyes? A guy so conservative that eveyone in the black community calls him an uncle tom. When he ran for senate here in 2002 he had a plan for reparations that was brilliant. Any Black American who could prove that they were descendants of slaves would be exempt from paying federal tax for himself and seven generations of his offspring. Think about it! It would cost the government nothing and maybe the welfare sucking dogs would go find a job. (yeah right)

As a black person and a city employee,It's my opinion that the "dumbing down" of tests just for the sake of diversity is wrong. Are their merit appointed minorities in positions their not qualified for? The answer is yes. But let me go one step further, for every minority you can think of holding a undeserved position, there are manay many more who are white men and women. I've heard some people use the term "merit" as a code word to describe minorities on this job. Believe me,all the minorities on this job have a long way to go before we catch up with the benefits whites have enjoyed from this "merit system."

Why is it that just the Ameircan public might be footing the bill for this reparations nonsense?
Why aren't the Dutch citizens sued in their courts for this?
Why aren't several African Nations sued since it was they that started the ball rolling by initially selling people into slavery?
Why is it I can't get reparations from the Brit's for enslavement of my ancestors that continued from the time of Cromwell to 1916?

Lefty, by the way the battle of the Wilderness was fought during the Civil War. As a result of their blood shed, aren't the decendents of these veterans deserving reparations for being killed for ultimately freeing the slaves? Personally I feel Jesses (pl) Jackson owes them a check or two.

Yes Lefty, he was a volunteer with the 102nd Pennsylvania Volunteers, so I won't lie and say he was drafted-which many were. I think you're missing the point though-millions of whites suffered (360,000 Union soldiers killed) because of slavery, and the idea of fairly distributing a settlement is impossible. Who should get the money? If we pay out can we do away with the UNCF and NAACP? What about welfare and Link for blacks? If you've been recieving welfare can we subtract that from your payment? What if you've been a victim of racism, but are a recent immigrant from Africa? The reality is any payout would HURT, not help the African American communitty, and therefore is anti-black and pro-dorothy tillman, jesse jackson et al.
Thanks for the book recommendation anon ymous! I'll check it out. (You should too Lefty!)

Hopefully this meets the established standard for publication:

Slavery Reparations

(1) In the 1970's I scored high enough on two promotion tests for promotion to Sergeant. Then US Federal Court Prentice Marshall had other ideas. He issued a decree that promoted numerous blacks ahead of whites who scored considerably higher on tests. Can't make Lt. until you're a Sergeant. Figured I have lost close to $700,000 in salary and pension benefits. One of those promoted ahead of me is the soon to be retired Deputy Chief Fred Coffey. Anyone who has ever worked with Fred knows he was “Peter Principled” as a Sergeant, yet alone where he ended up.

(2) My parents owned a very nice home in the "Pill Hill" area on the Southside. They were burglarized four times, harassed by their so called neighbors and forced to sell their home for a considerably lower price than the market value. My inheritance was reduced by approximately $60,000.

(3) On two occasions my car was hit by uninsured black motorists causing me to pay the deductible on both instances. $1,000 paid.

(4) My garage was burglarized in 1999 with losses totaling close to $3,000. Didn't have receipts for all items so could not collect the total loss from the insurance company. Two black men were arrested and convicted for the burglary. I did not receive one dollar in compensation from these gentlemen. Loss of appx. $1,500.

(5) My wife was the victim of a strong armed robbery in 1997. Although the actual proceeds of the robbery was only $15.00 she now walks with a limp from the broken leg she suffered in the attack. She had given up the purse without a struggle but the “black” perps decided it was a good idea to punch her and kick her while she lay on the ground with blood coming from her nose and mouth. She was very athletic playing volleyball, tennis etc. now she walks with pain every day.

The way I look at, Black America owes me close to $1,000,000 (interest included), I owe them nothing but contempt. If some misguided judge determines reparations are in order I will file a suit against "black America" for collection of what is owed me. I am not kidding. My son is an attorney and he is more than willing to take on this cause. As an aside, he was denied admission to the University of Michigan’s Law School to make way for less qualified blacks. He took it in stride and went to John Marshall and is doing quite well for himself. If and when the time comes I hope all others who have been harmed in this manner will join in the suit to make it a class action. When is enough, enough. Memo to all blacks out there, the chip on your shoulder has grown into a railroad tie. Drop it and become productive members of society. This country owes you nothing more than the oppurtunity for success. It's there - go for it - do it on your own not on our backs.

This subject always makes me laugh. Of course it's not funny in a ha-ha sense, but more in a pathetic way at those who cling so desperately to the mythical "America", whose fairy tale history we were all pretty much taught in high school.

You see according to the myth, over 10 million Africans were not stolen from their homeland (nearly half of whom perished during the journey) over a period of 300 years.

Tribes of the western coast of Africa were not armed to the teeth by European slave merchants with rifles and encouraged to hunt down their lesser armed traditional rivals from the interior. This "encouragment" of course did not in fact consist of assisting coastal chieftains in enlarging their territories at the expense of their now enslaved rivals--irrespective of what historical accounts from European slave merchants themselves may indicate.

The Mythical America of my long-ago school lessons rose to First-World status through Divine Providence, not the oddly systematic process by which raw materials such as cotton, indigo, and sugar--worked up from dawn to dusk by uncompensated slaves--was shipped to Europe and transformed into manufactured goods from which the profits were utilized to purchase yet more slaves.

Yes, the wealth of the country grew by leaps and bounds between the 17th century and the mid 19th--just the period in which slavery was most profitable and prolific in the US--but surely there has to be some OTHER explaination for this growth.

BUT THE DARKIES, SURELY THEY GAINED SOME BENEFIT?

Of course they did fool! We fought a civil war and promised that the Bill of Rights would apply to them as well--we even passed the 14th, 15th, and 16th Amendments to the Constitution garanteeing them full citizenship! Furthermore, we promised them 40 acres and a mule to get them set on the course to prosperity!

DID WE DELIVER?!

Well...not exactly. The forty acres didn't materialize, and I think the mules died. The Civil War Amendments TECHNICALLY applied to the darkies but in reality an activist Supreme Court applied them to...corporations. Yeh, the laws that gave corporations the rights of (immortal)human beings were derived from the Civil War Amendments meant for the freed slaves.

WHAT ABOUT RECONSTRUCTION?

It had a good run. About 10 years.

TEN YEARS?

Yeh, then we kind of pulled the northern troops out and let the Klan take over. We deferred to local knowledge on that one. Figured those southern boys would live and let live--the war was so long ago. They ingeniously instituted new "customs", however, that miraculously restored the old order.

COULD DARKIES VOTE?

Only if they were feeling suicidal.

WHAT ABOUT HABEUS CORPUS?

Forget about it.

EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW?

Hell no! Seems they even gave this custom a name as I recall. Oh yes, Jim Crow. Hung around for 100 years after the Civil War.

YOU MEAN THE SUPREME COURT APPLIED TO CORPORATIONS LAWS MEANT TO FULLY EMANCIPATE THE SLAVES DURING THE HEIGHT OF JIM CROW--EFFECTIVELY DENIING THEIR DECENDENTS THE RIGHTS OF CITIZENSHIP?!

I'm afraid so.

BUT WHAT OF THE NORTH?

Well...we didn't exactly lay out the welcome mat. We had kind of institutionalized segregation up this way you know. Had a few "race riots", more like race slaughters with 100 to 1 odds against the darkies. Even had one here in Chicago back in 1919.

SO WHAT'S YOUR POINT? I'VE NEVER OWNED SLAVES.

Well, that doesn't mean that being white in America doesn't come with benefits that you take for granted. This has been and remains a highly race conscious society in which a premimum is placed on white skin.

The Jim Crow South and the "informal" racial segregation of the North are all within living memory of many African-Americans who are still alive.

All I'm saying (and as you well know) is that the field isn't close to level.

Since we are now in the habit of recommending books, I think I'll recommend one myself. Try the Black Jacobins by CLR James about the Haitian Revolution. It should give you some idea of the spectacular obscenity that was Black slavery in the New World (90 percent of all African slaves went to the hell holes of South America and the West Indies).

I have noticed that some of you have difficulty making cause-and-effect correllations. You know, how generations of slavery, followed by generations of Jim Crow and institutional racism could lead to the descendents of such a system being at a decided disadvantage.

I could expand on this subject on my own blog, but right now I've got bigger dragons to help slay. Try broadening your minds, maybe look at things from another's perspective. Stay safe.

Way to go Old Grey Guy. All of us should take a look at what this society of entitlement has cost us as individuals. Black America has been given chance after chance at the public expense. If and when a suit is brought count me in.

I completely agree with Old Grey Guy with what you said. Although some may not, but the truth hurts doesn't it.

My family came here from Ireland, they were treated badly as were many immigrants who came here from Ireland. Do they get any money? I think not.

Nobody owes anyone anything. You have to make your own way in society and not expect someone to continously support you time and time again.

It all comes down to greed. It reminds me of the line from Jerry McGuire, "Show me the money!"

I think the reparations is a joke. If reparations was a topic back in the day when there were still people who were alive and were slaves, then fine, pay them but not generation after generations who have had nothing but opportunity to be successful in this country.

GREED....GREED...GREED.

Regarding City hiring standards on the Fire Dept.

Tucker Carlson (the Conservative Talk show guy) wrote a story in the 1990's regarding the hiring of the Washington D.C. Police Dept.

Wash D.C used to be a great police Dept. - no more

The reason? THey instituted a residency requirement. Wash D.C. is very rich - very poor - no in between.

According to article the rich would not take job - so the poor areas were the only ones left.

THe Dept. lowered the standards to an astonishingly low level. Academy instructors complained they were graduating illiterates.

The STates attorneys out there complained they had to throw out homicide cases because they could not make sense of reports.

I wish I could find a copy of that article. Wash D.C. is a joke Dept because of this. One of the worst. Will the CFD follow suit (granted a dumb fireman is not as bad as a dumb cop)

Sorry, "old Grey Guy," but I ain't buying your version of your parents
being "forced out" of Pill Hill.
Several white families still live there today. And if you check the stats of the 004th District, that area of 004 probably has some of, if not THE lowest burglary stats in the entire District (I'm willing to bet the East Side area of 004 has more!). Most of the homes in that area have first rate burglar alarms, and neighbors who watch out for each other. Worked in 004 for many years, and I don't ever recall taking a burglary report for any home directly in the Pill Hill area. A few auto thefts, even a peeping tom once, sure, but those happen in every community. There are no cheap homes in Pill Hill, and never have been. A few houses even have in ground swimming pools. If your parents got bamboozled while selling their home, don't blame blacks. Likely it was unscrupulous white realtors, who often prey on perceived fears of buyers AND sellers. As far as the other stuff that happened to you, I'm just glad I'm not a relative.
You seem to attract a lot of negative karma there, pal!

As a black man, and an officer, I'll make a couple of comments and log off. This site has never been very friendly to females, hispanics or persons of color, and I see no reason for it to change. Still, I'll get in my two cents worth.

1) I don't believe that anyone, black or white, truly believes that this government will ever give black Americans one dime for
indignities suffered generations ago. It simply is not going to happen. It will pop up in various courts, but the case isn't going anywhere. Get over it, everyone.
Move on. There will be no free lunch.

2) True enough, it's not an easy road to hoe for blacks in America, but look at what Native Americans have lost. This Govt. has done even less to repair that situation.
And if this Govt. isn't working hard to make that right, they aren't going to do anything for anyone else. Get over it, and move on.

3) The last thing any white man or woman should believe is that all societal ills are now cured, and blacks have as much opportunity as anyone else. It's simply not true! For every P-Diddy, Oprah or Barack Obama out there, there are millions of black people in this country bumping their heads against glass ceilings all over this great land of America. For far too many children and young adults of color, growing up in areas of limited economic development, and poor schools/educational opportunities will ensure that drugs and dead end jobs will claim them. These areas of poor education and limited socio-economic development also affect lifespan (all too well known among residents of Ark., Miss, and La.). Until those conditions change, people of color will always be chasing the rainbow in huge numbers. Ok, you can have your "blog" back now. I don't expect to change any minds here, just think about it. stay safe out there.
