Here We Go Again

Once again, the altar boy photos and honor student stories are rolling out in full force, aided and abetted this time by Channel 7 news.
  • There are questions about a weekend shooting involving a Chicago police officer on the city's South Side. Investigators say Michael Smith was shot and killed after he allegedly lunged for an officer's gun. But some witnesses and relatives say that's not what happened. They want the officer who fired the shot charged with murder.
  • Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the officer involved was justified in his actions. Michael Smith's family disagrees. They say because they questioned the actions of the officers, they've been harassed by police. Something the department denies.
  • "When he approached, he didn't say freeze, he didn't say police, he didn't say nothing. He grabbed him, pulled him towards the gun and he popped him," Poney said.
Yeah, this rings true. Because the first thing you want when you are approaching robbery suspects is the possible offender who won't show you his hands right up close and personal in case you have to shoot him in the belly. What the fuck? Does anyone over at Channel 7 even read this crap before the put it over the air?

And of course, they have to throw in the "harassed by police" canard that always pops up when the family's story diverges from the "official line." If there is one policy it seems is always enforced, it is that the investigating brass and detectives DON'T talk to anyone who wasn't at the scene. Because they have nothing to add. You don't have to harass people who weren't there and anyone who was there is probably already at the Area giving statements. It isn't harassment if it's part of an investigation.

I just want to say THANK YOU to all of the outside units that were present at that scene yesterday. I read the blog on a daily basis, trying to weed out the important stuff from the bellyaching since it's good to know what goes on citywide. When I read the blogs I see a lot of motherfucking going back and forth, some of it good natured and some of it pretty spiteful. I saw units there from as far away as 008 and 009 when the hammer dropped......and to make it to 003 in that kind of time. I saw TRU, SOS, Saturation and God only knows what other alphabet soup groups there.......there was no acrimony, no bullshit chest beating, no my daddy's phonecall got me here shit, just BLUE. It shouldn't take incidents like that to remind us that the only people looking out for us, is us. My point being, we had a terrible situation, rapidly going to shit, with all of our cars, the UofC cars and anyone close to help. The rest of you came in true form, a most welcome sight indeed. Official thanks will probably never get to you, even though it was broadcast by our W/C, but everyone was appreciated never-the-less. Hopefully someone else who was there will see this and tell their buddies, etc, etc. Just know, at least from this copper from 003, if the shit gets too deep and I hear about it, I'm there. THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT ASSISTANCE!

Having recently retired from an empty holster unit ( due to physical problems).

I cannot say enough about the tremendous job you guys in the field do everyday.

Sometimes I shake my head and wonder how or why you even bother.

Its a shame that the city kow-tows to these money grabbing con artists that insist that their little angel was an honor student etc.

I wish that we'd get a politician or a police boss with some testicular fortitude.

I dont blame those who really dont want to extend themselves. I can understand their feelings.

It doesnt take long for the Dept to knock the starch out of you.

Just stay safe and fuck these mutts.
Including the ones in suits at the Hall and at HQ

May the Lord keep all of you safe and sound.

Have a great Holiday season

I KNOW ITS OFF THE SUBJECT BUT I HAVE TO SAY IM SO SICK OF THESE PUNK ASS IDIOT COPPERS COMPLAINING ABOUT T.R.U.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. HERE YOU HAVE APPROX 260 COPPERS GOING TO DISTRICTS EVERY NIGHT THAT HAVE REAL PROBLEMS WITH CRIME.

INSTEAD OF BASHING THEM ALL THE TIME, YOU SHOULD BE THANKING THEM. GOD BLESS THE WORKING POLICE. IN TRU AND IN ALL 25 DISTRICTS. SOME HAVE MORE WORKERS THEN OTHERS OF COURSE BUT I (A FELLOW WORKER) AND ALL THE OTHER WORKERS - THANK YOU!

YEAH, THEIR ARE SOME IDIOTS IN TRU. YEAH TRU IS PRETTY YOUNG WHEN IT COMES TO SENIORITY. BUT REMEMBER, THEIR ARE ALSO EXPERIENCED OFFICERS IN TRU AND COPPERS WITH A SHIT LOAD OF TIME ON. PROBABLY WAY MORE THAT THOSE TRU BASHERS THAT ARE ALWAYS ON THIS SITE.

HERE'S A LITTLE BASHING BACK AT YOU. IF YOU AND YOUR FELLOW DAWG AZZ LAZY COPPERS BUDDIES WERE OUT THEIR DOING YOUR JOB AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE, MAYBE TRU WOULDNT HAVE TO COME TO YOUR DISTRICT AND DO YOUR JOB FOR YOU. I'M DOING 10-20 STREET STOP &/OR TRAFFIC STOPS A NIGHT. FUNNY, I HARDLY EVER SEE DISTRICT COPPERS ANYWHERE IN THE DISTRICT. FUNNY, I'M IN THE STATION JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY ON A QUALITY ARREST AND I NEVER SEE HARDLY ANY DISTRICT PEOPLE IN THE STATION ON ARRESTS. HMMMM!

I'M NOT HATING ON EVERYBODY. EVERY DISTRICT HAS ITS WORKERS. WE IN TRU KNOW WHO YOU ARE CAUSE WE SEE YOU OUT THERE ROCKN AND ROLLN. I TIP MY NEW AND APPROVED SKULL CAP OFF TO YOU. TO ALL THOSE OTHER JEALOUS HATN HEE HAWS, GO SUCK ON DALEY'S BIG TOE. THAT IS ALL

"IF YOU AND YOUR FELLOW DAWG AZZ LAZY COPPERS BUDDIES WERE OUT THEIR DOING YOUR JOB AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE, MAYBE TRU WOULDNT HAVE TO COME TO YOUR DISTRICT AND DO YOUR JOB FOR YOU."

Rebuttal: If you took every hard charger, non-dog ass copper and manned one district on every watch, things would still be f*cked in places like 005, 006, 011, 015, 025 because there are too many idiots living in one concentrated area. Really do you actually think you can make a difference in these districts—you are funny. It would be like trying to teach a dog how to read Shakespeare.

"I'M DOING 10-20 STREET STOP &/OR TRAFFIC STOPS A NIGHT."

Rebuttal: If you want to compare, I can’t get two hour lunches at Pompeii on Taylor St, my shift does not last 6 hours, I don't wear black gloves, and I have to answer radio assignments which are in a RAP for hours on a daily basis.

"I'M IN THE STATION JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY ON A QUALITY ARREST"

Rebuttal: One rock PCS pinches don't count.

"YEAH, THEIR ARE SOME IDIOTS IN TRU."

Rebuttal: Agree, you have greatly underestimated the amount of idiots in TRU though.

"HERE YOU HAVE APPROX 260 COPPERS GOING TO DISTRICTS EVERY NIGHT THAT HAVE REAL PROBLEMS WITH CRIME."

Rebuttal: So officers in fast districts don't have to deal with crime on a daily basis? Go into 011, 015, or 025 and say this at the front desk after a roll call. Have your partner see how long it takes before you get knocked out.

In closing, I wanted to let you know that you are not as special, elite, or an extraordinary cop than you think you are. Writing in all capital letters lets us know you are mad, but you should use them sparingly to highlight specific points. It would be like screaming into the radio when you only wanted to ask for lunch. Tone it down a little. You really have embarrassed yourself and I'm embarrassed for you. After first reading this, I thought it was someone being sarcastic, but was wrong. All of us so called "dog ass coppers" in fast districts wanted to express our gratitude to you: F*ck you very much.

Maurer is retired and this unit should be too.

Hey TRU dork I worked there and it was a joke, no experience and wannabe coppers work there. I did enjoy working 5 hr days and doing nothing though. The reason you dont see us is because we are answering calls in backlogs because 280 bodies are in TRU depleting districts that need bodies. Go beat your chest to someone that cares because we dont. Hey inspector if 30 cars a night are supposed to be in hot spots why do I see maybe 2 or 3, where are the other ones. Get gps on those two year wonders. Also watch for those 4 hrs ducks every other car gets. Happy holidays you dorks. I will admit there were some good workers with time on, maybe 4 or 5 and I had to leave baby SOS because sweater made my neck itch.....

I imagine the beat copper is handling one of the average 8000 calls for service doled out over the radio, that come in everday
on 3rd watch. As most know 80 percent is nonsense that still has to be responded too, another 10 perc with a complainant and paper, and 10 perc that end up in an arrest situation. They do this all while handling the on view handwaver. Maybe that's why you don't see them in the station making arrest, they are on the street handling radio assignments.
(you do remember those don't you?)
Maybe while making one of the 20- 30 traffic stops a night in the district, you might want to switch to the zone, see if there's anything you can take off the humper for one of your co-workers.

Good post TRU guy!
I think the problem is NOT District guys working, but having enough District guys to do the work.
Do we need TRU unit? NO!!!
We need manpower at the district level! every district needs 50 or more people. Busier dist needs more. Get rid of the bullshit administration and put police on the streets.
Remember when we had Park PO's, Foot men, all cars manned? No problem getting a day off?
The Dept is robbing peter to pay paul. So short of people detailing out on every watch to busy districts.
WE NEED 3000 MORE COPPERS!!!

Just watched the Channel 7 news at 4. Ive got to the point of believing that 2 seperate justice systems need to exist in the State of Chicago. One for Whites and one for all others.

"Law without force is impotent"
-Ptolemy

When will out elected officials just stand up and say "If you attempt to disarm a Police Officer you may get shot and killed" Id settle for our elected Fraternal President to say that as a start.

Or how about someone taking responsibility for their own actions. Kinda hard to do in this case.

OHHHH GEEEEZ
What am I thinking?

One thing we all know is true, TRU, (and you SOS guys as well) is that you guys are not responsible to answer al lthe BS calls that come through on any particular zone that you happen to be working on any given night. Hell, if I didn't have to save four of five marraiges her day, I probably could come in with a QUALITY ARREST also. But such is the life of a beat cop. Hey, I'm not complaining, I've had many worse jobs for a living, but don't forget, UNIT GUY, you get to pick and choose what you want to ride on, if you choose to ride on any radio assignments at all. That's a luxury most of us WILL NEVER HAVE. Don't forget from whence you came....I've seen a number of "unit guys" who were gonna ride out the unit until "the boss puts me in for the stripes" wander back into a beat car on a phone call. All it takes is a little scandal to rock somebody's world.

WGN TV

WGN just had a report, with the
rev. leon finney representing the family of the police fighter.

The good rev. stated for the family, with at least 15-20
locals behind him, that the police fighter would never fight the police.

Of course the WGN reporter, sorry forgot who did the report, never asked any questions. Such as...has junior ever been arrested? etc.

God forbid any attempt at a balanced report.

If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.

Riddle me this batman:

If district coppers took care of their "quality of life" issues plaguing the community rather than laying down on jobs or fuckin'off for a half hour after leaving a job, maybe there wouldn't be a 280 call backlog. G.P.S. would work wonders in certain districts.

The problem in CPD is first line supervision! Get the pooches moving to their jobs and clear that board. Just like the public schools, CPD is so fucking dumbed down, it is pathetic. Aim high - one mover or parker a night and answer your jobs. WOO HOO! When you set goals too low, what do you expect???????

How about making some street stops and identifying the neighborhood pieces of shit that cause 90 percent of the problems.

I work in a city-wide unit. I go to districts all over the city and talk to many officers. At least 85% of the 5 years or less on the job, claim they wouldn't go to TRU or SOS. Again this is representative only of the
people I have spoken with.

If you wouldn't go there, why bitch about the people that do go. The people in these units didn't demaned the creation of these (specialized) units, they are just filling the spots the dept. created.

Someone WILL be working in those units so stop the crying.

If you do any kind of work, call a specialized unit and ask for an interview, as in applying for a job. If you don't ask/try then you don't know if you can get a
gig or not. The worst that can happen is you don't get the job.
But you may be surprised.

This is a great job! If you think it is so fucked up, then leave!

Stay safe!!

I am a supervisor in TRU, reading this nonsense back and forth between the unit and the districts is sickening, I don't believe the person that started this is actually from TRU but rather someone who likes to stir it up once in awhile, i've noticed this pops up from time to time, give it a rest. We all came from districts, mostly busy ones, we don't think we are better than anyone else, some of the perks are nice but doesn't make us any better than the rest of the poeple on the job and I don't see that from most of the people in the unit.
If, by some chance it is someone from the unit, knock it off, nobody cares how many stops or arrests anyone makes, you make yorself look like a jagoff.I've always noticed that the guy the guy who goes and does the job everyday without bragging about it is actually the guy most respect. I can't speak for everyone but I personally code jobs wherever we are when I can and try to help out. I also back everyone up on stops as most of us do, officer safety is the mumber one goal out there.
To the guy who used to work here that left, all I can say is I wasn't there from the inception and don't know how it was, but it's pretty good now, the Sgts. pick their people and run there teams, there is no quota or contact cards etc. as some have mentioned.
I hope this clears the air a bit about this stuff, everyone be safe out there.

The jump out boys were created as a last resort to give ppos some experience in the summer because there was such a shortage of FTOS, it disbanded after a yr. TRU had nothing to do with that. It's funny you talk about bragging two yr. wonders but you do the same in your post. You never took a long lunch when you were in narcotics with your take home cars, radios and cool beards? give it rest, when they are on taylor street they are eating like everyone else from 012, 011, 010, 009, dets. and every tac team in the area, obviously since you see them there you must spend alot of time there yourself. Say what you want about Maurer, but he was one of the best we ever had, all you have to do is look at what we have now and you can see that, what with your 16 yrs experience and all.....

To the best of my knowledge, nobody with less than 3 yrs in the unit, the Sgts. pick their people and don't want any less than that, as it should be.
There are goofs in every district, unit, area on the job, that's the way it goes.

SCC you should just maybe call every subject TRU Bashing I, II, III etc. I think that it is very sad that so many of my "brothers and sisters" feel it necessary to bash a unit like TRU. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. There are jackasses everywhere on this department and to judge an entire unit by the few instead of the many IMO is sad. There are many people in TRU that don't have much time on, but remember that we all have been there. You didn't come onto this job with 10 years, you earned that time just as those "2 year wonders" will. There are also people in TRU with 10, 15 years and a ton of experience. I for one feel lucky to be a part of TRU. I personally don't feel superior to those in the districts, we are all out there for the same reason. Maybe I am the exception but we are all on the same team. Hopefully one day in my career time we will begin to act like it. Wishfull thinking I'm sure.

A SHORT HISTORY LESSON: Nothing changes! All the bashing of the TRI/SOS use to be directed at the Task Force, both units predecessor.

Basically younger officers doing about the same things.

But it was so successful that the created a Detective Task Force comprised of the 200 youngest Dets.

The regular Task force and the Det. Task force are basically the two groups that made the 68 democratic Convention a high light of any cop's career.

So quit bitchin about the young guys, they do their job and more. Or even better, try to join them and learn how to love that job again!

If you are not, don't waste your time concerning yourself with it. Why do you care? The unit exist, bitching about it is not going to change that fact. GET OVER IT

OH,True...please.You are the best, now we all can stay home,While you protect us..Go work the dist, and put some time in kid....The day will come when you will step on ur dick, and make us all proud..all you slick sleeves can tell the war stories to someone else, when you are around we just all laugh,,HA_HA.You are the revenew unit for the city,,,lap dogsand the bossess in ur unit are no better police i know them and they where never the police either..UR no true but False...A Big JOKE,,,

From the sound of things they are probably laughing at you during their 2 hour lunches and early days, I don't know all their bosses as you say you do but the ones I know were definetely the police. I don't work there but am tired of the bs us vs. them thing on this job, in the mean time, the Mary Mitchells, Jakes, Pinchams, Rices, Meeks, ACLU etc. have their agendas and have no problem promoting them, we need to stick together and stop the i'm better than them, they are 2 yr. wonder pussies, yada, yada, yada, let's get on the same page, get our agenda together and start helping ourselves instead of dividing, that's exactly what the city and the above listed people want....

For every unit you can bring up things to make it look good or bad. And of course there are perks to joining them, otherwise who would join them!! Instead we should be looking at all of us as 1 unit, the Chicago Police. We are on the same team so we should start acting like it. By everyones standards there are dogs on this job and there always will be. But even the dogs on the street are still on the street where there is potential dangers. I'm sure that same dog (regardless of what unit hes from) will be stopping when any of his fellow officers are fighting with some a-hole while all the good citizens just keep driving by. You cant really blame someone for taking an opportunity that you didnt. The city doesnt always think things through very well, they tend to get an idea, think it will solve all the citys problems, and run with it. I think alot of fellow officers complain about units because they see it as the grass is greener over there and if thats the case maybe you should think about bidding to another yard. I've rambled enough, just remember SAME TEAM!! Its us vs. them, and last I checked the numbers come out to about 12,000 vs. 3 million so we need every last man/woman.

Quit b;aming the TRU guys. They are only doing what their bosses let them. A team like TRU works only when you realize that you need to be fully staffed in districts first then use TRU when problems arrise. Back in the days of Gangs it was the same thing. They came into the district handled what they wanted made their mumbers and ducked. But it wasn't a problem because we had all beat cars up 10-4 and a legit wagon rolling. Also most of the gang guys had some time on the job and were not just babies.

I come from a specialized unit, and I agree, there is to much bickering between UNITS & DISTS. I don't look down on any units or dists for that matter.

But, we recently completed our furlough picks, one person was complaining that it should be done by seniority "time on the job" not when you came to the unit.

I say, if you want to use your collective bargaining rights, then go back to patrol, you got here on a phone call!

The districts bashing the TRU unit is because of how some, not all, of the TRU unit officers act when they come to our districts. They walk around like they own the place and have attitudes that make them appear they think they're better than those of us in a district. Many times my partner and I have stopped to see if they need assistance while on a traffic or street stop and we have gotten nothing but attitude, like we were bothering them. They should be happy we're stopping to see if they're okay. We've also had to clean up their shit when they're long gone from our district and then comes a call for supervisor because they've fucked something up in the district.

You all are a bunch of playa hating, racist, dickless, assholes....We all once had 2 years on the job and we all thought we we're super cops...The TRU guys got a job to do just like the rest of us. Stop bashing those guys. Those guys bleed red just like everybody else...Just handle your jobs, take you lunches, write your tickets, and shut the hell up.

TRU was the afterbirth of the "Jump out boys" idea created by another GOOF named MAURER..."

Wrong.........The "Jump out boys" moniker was given to the CHA guys by the project citizens....because of the CHA vans with numerous officers patroling the projects ...back when...as in...." man... the jump out boys was all in here..." somewhere it was borrowed and applied...to the Tru Unit... but it was...ghetto speak that first christened the CHA officers with that nickname.........

There are plenty of people with 2 yrs or less on tac/gang teams all over the city, is that good? there are new people being trained by people just off probation, is that good? since it looks like you ran the seniority list for TRU you just showed that they have a good mix of younger coppers and veterans as was stated on here numerous times so hopefully it is over now, stay safe everybody.

somewhere it was borrowed and applied...to the Tru Unit

It was never applied to TRU, it was for the recruits, unit 353 enhanced foot patrol, named by the citizens of the west side who also saw them "jump out" and go after people, it was funny when they called the housing guys that too...

Yeah these are all the same complaints we used to have about SOS, I remember when the tac guys would lock the office to keep them out, the lockup would make them wait forever, desk Sgt make them wait for approvals and inventories, w/cs fuck with them about uniform appearance and crazy Supervisor requests about h/i's, beatings etc.
Your comment about how SOME of them act can be said about our district personnel as well, tac/gang guys who don't say hello to you as they pass you in the hallway, wave you off on stops the minute you pull up when they have a carload, so it goes both ways. I don't mind whe they are in the district, the calls for service usually go down, there is always an assist car 30 seconds away, it is harder to get a decent pinch though, as it shuts down once they see so many cars, which is why them and us have to settle for less, but oh well, the bottom line is we stick together, back each up and make it home..

Sorry but the complainer is right, it's a huge violation of the contract and a slam-dunk grievance, so what if he got there on a phone call, if they try to dump him for beefing it's an even bigger grievance. Why do units think they can bypass the contract and try this stuff?
