ComEd Rate Hikes

Here it comes! A 20% rate hike. Prepare to take it in the shorts people.
  • Electric bills are going up for Commonwealth Edison customers. The utility got permission Wednesday to raise rates more than 20 percent. That increase takes effect in January. The Illinois Commerce Commission approved the increase Wednesday. Last month, lawmakers in Springfield defeated a proposal to block the increase.
This one is going to hurt. How can the mayor base his re-election campaign on the city being such a wonderful place to live when none of the public servants can actually afford to live here anymore? It's getting ridiculous.

Residency for CPD is state law, you can't grieve that. Good luck on changing it...
------------------------------------

State law? Am I the only one calling this out as wrong? If residency is a STATE law, then why do other PD's in the state NOT have residency?

I have a relative working for HH police department and he told me things are heating up. A word to the wise, you don’t want to make things worse than it already is. Stop talking about the silly word “WAR”. You will loose. When your speeding down Harlem, or cutting down Foster, 50 in a 25 zone to save some time, YOU ARE WRONG. You are also off duty. Many times you are DUI and you will loose.
------------------------------------

First off, thanks for telling me how we will LOOSE, thank god we will not lose.

Secondly, when last I checked HH was on the border of Chicago. You mean to tell me their Officer's don't venture into the big bad city?

Thirdly, and last, try not to be such a tough guy, you aren't very convincing. We all wear blue and I will treat any copper with respect, maybe you should learn that lesson.

The "home rule" provision and the proviso for "cities with populations in excess of one million residents". (i.e.: Chicago alone).

it is based on population

The law of "homerule", as I understand it applies to cities with more than a million residents... Of course in Illinois that is ONLY Chicago... What a joke.

I believe the way the law is written that if your municipality has over 1million in population then you can demand that it's employees live within the boundaries.

This is just too sad. I will be leaving Chicago for a warmer climate as soon as I can. The whole energy things is manipulated and we keep getting screwed. I do not know if there is a solution, but the middle class is getting squeezed.

FOP, how about a "decent" raise not to mention a "cost of living raise". i risk my life each and every day. stressed out, long hours... com ed spiken' their rates. natural gas through the roof. property taxes damn near doubled. i have to work, go to court and work 3 side jobs just to make ends meet.

get rid of inspectors. they are useless. they do the same job that lt's and sgt's can handle without a problem. if you ask me - waisted money.

i'd like to see a blog on the depts manpower problem. true facts. big safety issue. a moral downer. a solution to the crime rate is real easy - hire more police. man all the cars that need to be manned.

GOD BLESS - BE SAFE OUT THERE!

Wow, that much a raise in rates huh? Man I bet the Englesavages, the mopes on the East end of 008, the garbage that lives in the projects, the ones that collect checks for not being able to read, well basically the unworking minority will get their bills paid for free. While I toil and work all day at 1 of my 3 jobs and struggle to pay my bills. Thank you for having such a wonderful and biased (towards monorities) government welfare system.

Actually, what it says is that for Municipalities that have over one million residents, residency requirements are not manditorially a subject of collective bargaining. In other words, the issue cannot be brought before an arbitrator to decide and the city can refuse to discuss the issue.

Residency is a state law. No legal action can be brought, no rules can be changed, it has already been found constitutional. The only way to get out from under is by having the law changed. This will not happen, the same Democratic thieves in the Illinois legislature are in cahoots with the thieving aldermen of this cesspool of a city. It is in their best intrest to have us here because we keep the tax base up. If the law were to be changed, CFD, Streets & San, and CPS would be close behind and this would be another Detroit. The stutterin' stammerin' midget king knows this and would never allow it to happen. The city needs to be intact for when his son comes back from the "crusades" and takes control of the kingdom (it is going to happen). If you have less than 10 quit now, if you have more wait it out for twenty so you can at least get paid for nothing.

dude it's a state law but it all comes down to your city's population. chicago is way over the low cut off for the dept to lift the residency.

fop has already stated at the meetings that they wont even put this issue on the table. if they do, then daley won't even consider everything else on the table and will make the contract fight even harder.

fop lodge 7 needs a blog. so we can discuss issues and they can continue ignoring our complaints and concerns.

As much as I would like to see residency lifted, realisticaly it is not going to happen. Lets at least ask for things that are possible, such as adequate manpower, decent equipment, decent raises and a stop in the rise of insurance premimums.

Residency doesn't pertain to CPS. They say it does but I know many still living in the burbs that look to young to have been grandfathered in. I think they have it, but look the other way and don't enforce it!!!!!

Me and my wife bought a house in Morgan Park 2 years ago. We are both Sergeants. We are barely making it and we did not buy a big fancy house. The mortgage, the property taxes (fuck!) the house hold basic bills, not including all the other things it takes to survive is ridiculous. You wonder why so many coppers kids end up bad, the parents are off trying to work a second job just to feed their family and give them a descent life. We don't have fancy cars, we drive to vacations each year we can afford to barely go, on and on and on. Property taxes and the cost of living in Chicago is ridiculous. Our raises don't compare to the rising costs just to survice. What is 1.5% of a raise when inflation has risen 3% - 7% each year. Must I go on. Lets ban together so we can help each other survive and keep our health so we can finally spend that pension we pay into each paycheck.

How come noone talks about the fact that we the city had an ordinance passed which prohibits us from suing etc., the city for not providing us health insurance after 2013. Really you guys. we will not have healthinsurance after then, and if you cannot retire with full benefirs prior to then, you will not be offered health benefits when you retire. Keep in mind we do not pay into social security.
