Homicides Up
A couple of people were shocked we hadn't commented on this yet. We were actually going to wait until the end of the year and see what the grand totals were. We were also going to sign up for the various "ghoul pools" that circulate this time of year for next years first homicide.
- The number of homicides so far this year has surpassed last year's total, according to unofficial Chicago Police figures, but overall violent crime is continuing to drop.
As of Thursday, there were 452 murders in Chicago, up three from last year's total of 449, according to unofficial numbers from the Police Department. The increase reverses a four-year decline.
The bean counter in us wonders aloud if the current manpower shortage is actually some kind of actuarial plot - see how low you can let the officer numbers go on the street before crime starts to rise again. Then hold the line at that number and see if crime remains steady. Then when election cycles come around, you can always up the number of officers the year before to drive crime down, and let retirement attrition lower your numbers to "save" money in off years. It's an interesting theory and might explain recent events.
Just out of curiosity - if the Department is budgeted a certain number of spots - what happens to the money when they don't fill those spots? Can someone enlighten us?

A budget is a shopping list you make up before you go to the store. When you get to the store you look in your wallet and you realize that you dont have as much money as you thought you did. I guess I will only get five frozen pizzas at the store not seven.
If they don't use budgeted money to fill the spots allocated for police officers (or any city spot, for that matter), then that money will most likely go into the General Fund, where it can be allocated for use by other departments. Allocating money out of the General Fund should need the approval of the budget committee, but whether or not that always happens....who really knows?

we need more homicides. lets go back to the early 90's when crack first hit the street check out the homicide stats in both chgo and nyc---900+ think about it. joe gets killed. us taxpayers are paying for his housing, food, medical, his kids, his baby's mommas, his time in county and in idoc, and for his public defender. so it's a huge relief on our tax dollars when the gang banging pieces of shits get killed.
Cops on the street does impact crime - no doubt. But to account for the drop in overall crime starting in the 1990's you need look no further than Roe vs. wade.
It is the only time the LibTards on the Supreme Court inadvertently got something right.
It is a shame that HQ, and our politicians, are so enamored of crime statistics. I guess it gives them something to talk about at their meetings.
The only reason homicides went down for the last 5 years is because hospital staffing (emergency room personel in particular) is way up. Go to Northwestern Hospital's emergency room at any time of the day or night, or any other hospital emergency room. They're OVERLOADED with doctors and nurses!
Doctors and their support staff are also better equipped and better trained than ever. The technology of the scanners, monitors and x-ray machines used by these professionals has advanced by leaps and bounds in the past ten years.
If you want to look at a more realistic way of determining if violent crime has really been dropping the past 5 years, look at the number of aggravated batteries instead of the homicide numbers.
The only thing that's changed is that they're saving more of these people's lives than ever before.
off topic merit promotions. i can understand someone getting meritorously to dick sgt or lt. one merit promotion only for a heroic deed or other meritorous reason keep in mind merit means earn not know or blow. i have a suggestion scc let's list the multiple unqualified meritorous promotees so everyone knows if they ever deal with an unqualified merit supervisor we know how they got their stripes/bars what does everyone think???
They are not counting the fetynal/heroin homicides and the others being carried as death investigations.those are the true numbers...The budgeted money goes into some bigshot's Cayman Island bank account...
Quick story about Commander C.K.
One of his minions from TRU (Sgt.) was working my distict(on TARA) when I adressed roll call regarding outside units coming in and tearing it up and leaving us holding the bag. I told the officers to get their beat numbers and dupe the jobs to them if they did anything stupid. See, we were getting guys in black pajamas kicking doors and claiming to be from the district, also Tru was tearing up homes and cars and we were getting thr C.R.s.
Anyways I get a PDT message from C.K. telling me that guys like me are the reason that there are rifts between units and districts. I wrote back saying that the lack of supervision in units was the reason that there was problems.No response from C.K. Two weeks later the SOS scandal breaks!
The old timers say "too much college not enough high school", I say "too much Headquarters not enough street".
TRU is supervised very well, no hoodies, etc. so send that b.s somewhere else. It's also nice how you tell your people in roll call how to beef on coppers, like the citizens beefing isn't bad enough. stay in your office would ya...

For those who are waiting on the results of the Sgt test. They have been graded and very few failed.
Most did well on it and will get high scores. For those who scored well and have less than 10 years senority, better luck next time.
There will be no new classed off the old list. The results will be mailed out sometime sext week.

i hate to bring it to this but, there are dogs in 019 that have done it to themselves.
019 gets a man with a gun job and it is assigned accordingly. 019 locates the "offender" and "victim." 019 personell determine it really isn't a "man with a gun" job, but rather a hit and run crash in which the complainant followed the offending vehicle and called for police. it is then established that said parties who were involved in an auto crash which supposedly occured in 011.
department seniority, moral superiority, infinite wisdom and knowledge of general orders brought 019 to the righteous conclusion that this job belongs in 011.
1953 proceeds to go onto zone 10 and request a unit from 011 handle the paperwork on the mess not before informing the listening public that the offender was drunk. after being batted down by the dispatchers and many radio users, 1953 turns to 1910. 1910, then makes clear he is a sgt, and requests a unit from 011 come clean up the 019 mess, only after he mentions that it is a 501 investigation.
1199 and 1999 converse and concur that this is a 019 job.
1953 dogs out and goes down on a "curfew mission."
1952 and 1413 handle the work.
019 tact team were busy writing ANOVs for DOPW during the debacle.

Your right about the budget I worked for the city budget. The Chicago Police dept is the only city agency that gives back at the end of the year 15% that money will go to another Place? I was told the reason is that the public will not complain about how much money is spent for law enforcement, However the public is not aware that 15% is given back. can we say scam.

C.K is a joke who worked in 024 then used his daddy to get him to S.O.S. He maid SGT and worked in 018 then he worked inside for that lier who retired and went to the airport. I must add that I have made each test via the test. Noone gave me the answers, I studied. I have no family on the job and no clout, but I strive everyday to do something I can be proud of as representative of the Chicago Police Department. Why don't you stop trying to target our bosses and put in some real suggestions that may make them more effective because no matter how much you write hate, they will still get paid and their pensions will continue to outgrow yours, your heart will get worst each day with your angry disgruntled thoughts, and they will continue to supervise you and think and treat you like the stupid idiot your are!

3. I have worked a beat with a trauma center on it. I have handled more jobs blown of by beat cars in 010, 011, 014, 015, and 025 than a person of your low intelligence can imagine.
Example 1 Robbery victim in emergency room. Victim robbed, battered, and hit with offenders car in 011. Ambulance 46 transports victim to hospital. Witness (victims girlfriend) gives account of what happened. States Police told her to f$%@ off on scene about doing police report. Witness takes beat # down. I check with paramedics about what happened. Paramedics say coppers blew off job and witness is telling the truth. I check history of beat that witness says blew off job. That beat car did get the assignment and gives job a 19B. I give the victim a report as the original car should have. Witness wants to file complaint against beat car for blowing off job. I tell the witness that I'm going to get a complaint against car for blowing off job and I'm going to put her name as part of the complaint. Witness is satisfied that I'm getting complaint against beat car and goes back to her boyfiend who was robbed (victim ended up with fractured skull). I never got the CR# against the original car and protected my brothers in blue. I called the dist to let them know they had a robbery at the location and faxed them a copy of the report. Who was the dogass in that situation 010 warrior???
Example 2. Rape occurs in 010 dist. The beat is in the 10 sector. Beat car tells victim to f$#% off, quit trying to have your boyfriend locked up for nothing. Victim goes to my trauma center. Victim is neice of a stat rep. Victim has rape kit done and evidence is recovered. To make long story short evidence has DNA on it. DNA is matched to a paroled rapist. Shithead goes back to jail. The family at the hospital on the day of the incident wanted to file complaint against police. Myself along with the Dsk Sgt, WC, and Area 4 detective who responded covered for the beat car. The dog ass from 010 was saved a CR# that would have been sustained.

Where they told to call OPS or a TRU supervisor? My old partner, whowas a Sgt. in TRU said that he had zero C.R. investigations. Are your guys that well behaved? I have been on scenes where TRU has show up, put the boots to my officer's arestees and ran away when it was TRR time.Who gets blamed? The arresting officers from the district. The only beefer was the guy who ran to C.K. to cry.

Philadelphia's homicide rate is at a staggering 403 through this afternoon - I believe it's something like 25 more deaths than last year.
I also heard NYC had 551 homicides through 12/10. God only knows where those numbers are now.
There is such total disregard for human life and sickening.
Anyone know where to find the big city numbers for homicides in the US thus far for 2006?

Have anyone that took any promotional test scan a copy and email it to SCC. Then the list wouldn't be only the property of the city and FOP. That is a small way to help make the process more transparent. SCC keeps tabs!

No, you told your people to take down car numbers and beat numbers etc, why else would you do that? the reason we carry a low number of crs is because we are out there with our people and can diffuse things on scene without a beef most of the time. if I see any of my people lay hands on anyone they will do a trr, don't generalize, guys in the district do the same stuff, roll in, throw some boots and dissappear, if it's my guys pinch I tell them to just do the trr, we don't start blaming people.

They left because it wasn't what they thought it would be, they wanted to continue the 011th district way: sitting on dope spots, wearing hoodies and skull caps, no stars etc. some didn't like the Sgt. they had so they went back, some of them were good guys. That's why you try it out, if you don't like it you can always go back.

Hey, he passed the Lt's test legit! There is no way that him and Cmdr. Oompah scored the top two scores without being the best qualified for the job. There is absolutely no chance that the current head weasel of the airport, formerly chief of patrol even considered providing him with the answers, even though both him and oompah were his admin. sergeants in the chief's office, both have been taken care of their whole careers, and both belong to the NW side bosses only drinking club (got your challenge coin?).
Both of these fine officers got their jobs because they were the best qualified, like everything else in Chicago. Its too bad the old man didn't just name him a Deputy Sup. right out of the academy as is the current trend. He now has to suffer through a few years in each rank. Boy did he get screwed!

Who do you think believes yours? there are plenty of instances when cars from the district roll on one of our stops or on-views and starts jacking people up and then slipping away so save your b.s. for someone else, i'm out there with my people so I see it, you are the w/c in the office so you don't. We haven't been in black pajamas all summer, just tac/gangs on the weekend and maybe sos, so once again not us. You try to make it sound like crs weren'r around until sos and tru were started, sorry there are plenty of guys on the watch who run around in hoodies and no id on, no beat tags, tape over the numbers on the squad, none of this is new, it's just easier to blame outside units now. Except for the few complainers on here, we get along fine with district coppers, we back each other up and don't have problems.
To the blogger who talked about posting the "bad" supervisors who were promoted meritoriously, how stupid do you sound. That is just a matter of opinion of who is good or bad. I now know a Captain who everyone and I mean everyone dogged on a daily basis. I dreaded working for her as a Sgt. I must tell you that I learned so much from her, that it changed the way I policed and supported my troops. I learned how to lead by example and was given the mental tools to support my troops, though many of them were idiots. I ended up working for her as a visiting Lt., and learned even more. I must add that I have made each test via the test. Noone gave me the answers, I studied. I have no family on the job and no clout, but I strive everyday to do something I can be proud of as representative of the Chicago Police Department. Why don't you stop trying to target our bosses and put in some real suggestions that may make them more effective because no matter how much you write hate, they will still get paid and their pensions will continue to outgrow yours, your heart will get worst each day with your angry disgruntled thoughts, and they will continue to supervise you and think and treat you like the stupid idiot your are!
