- Chicago Fire Commissioner Raymond Orozco Jr. has paid the state a $15,529 fine for excessive college aid his daughter received based on phony claims made by a paid financial adviser.
- Although Orozco considered himself and his family as victims, he's paid the $15,529 fine as part of a deal with Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office to end an investigation into the matter.
- In a sworn statement, Orozco said that he only briefly met Martin in an initial meeting at their house. Instead of discussing the scope of Martin's worth, the commissioner left that task to his wife and chose to spend most of the time painting a daughter's bedroom.
If you can afford a $15,000 dollar fine for a $4,400 irregularity, what the hell are you doing applying for financial aid in the first place? How much does the Fire Commissioner make that financial aid is so readily available? Or is this another one of those "perks" so peculiar to the ruling class in Illinois?
It must be nice to have a spouse that can step up to the plate and be willing to take the fall for any financial missteps that happen to surface in your household.

as you know in many cases people can admit guilt and the bigger fish takes the most heat. that fine is pretty large for obtaining a mere $4400 in unwarranted assistance.

Regardless of your thoughts on the death penalty, supporting Mumia Abu Jamal shows ignorance (or an inability to read) and should be offensive to every police officer regardless of race. Using Wesley Cook as a poster boy for race relations is so devisive, and so destructive to the black communitty. I'm a Sgt. making about $60,000 less a year then Orozco. And I knew from talking to my daughters high school counselors I would not be getting any assistance from the government. You can't tell me he wasn't trying to skirt the laws and take advantage of the system.

While it's true we might not know all the facts, we were going by the Sun Times article linked in the post. The last line of the article reads as follows:
Martin has not been charged.
We went by what we had. We can always amend the post if new info is brought to light.
I find this hard to believe that someone who is of higher office in the city of Chicago or in the upper management of city government would attempt something of this magnitude. After all, we're all graduates of the online ethics training and fill out our ethics statements every year. No way could this happen.

One of the reasons that Orozco's daughter gets aid is that she is Hispanic surnamed. There is all types of aid and grants out there for minority students regardless of income that white kids can't get.
IF you wear a white shirt anything is possible. About 13 years ago the University of Chicago was going to give out 4 year scholarship, My son applied he was in the upper 2% ,anyway to make a long story short a LT son and two exemp son;s also applied they were in the 10% to 15% class, as you well know the white shirts kids got the scholarships, when I complained to the university they said to bad so sad, However my son still went to the university I worked a second job. A patrolmen's kid has a very small chance.
