- On Friday, the Sun-Times asked readers whether they thought Elvira Arellano's move to avoid deportation by taking sanctuary in a West Side church would have any effect on immigration laws. Here's what you thought:

60 (9%) said "Yes"
Sounds like a clear majority for instant deportation. We'll even volunteer to lead the raid. Who's with us? Her 15 minutes were up about 14 minutes ago.

If I knew I wouldn't be fired I'd be leading that bitch off in handcuffs and shipping her ass to the MCC lockup for a one-way flight back to Mexico.
But seeing as Chicago/Cook County is a "sanctuary" and we can be fired for even looking into someone's IMMIGRATION STATUS, I think I'll sit back and wait on the feds to take the bitch.

I am an american of mexican descent, but I firmly believe she should not be using the church to hide from the inevitable. She, when entering this country knew her illegal status and as such should deal with the consequences. When she had her child she took the risk that her illegal status and the legal status of her son may someday be an issue. She should stop using her son. She should have done it the right way. Many of illegal immigrants have done and gone through the proper channels, irregardless of the difficulty. First she should have seriously considered the problems of having this child. ??Is there a father or is this a child of convenience? Secondly when she had that child that was her opportunity to apply for permanent residency. That would have been the right way to use your kid instead of using the hardship of seperation and abusing the priveldges of religion. She is not even with her son now so what is the real issue? I don't get it, I would want to be with my child and family. People know when they come to america illegaly that they are at risk of deportation, she was just ignorant of the law by mistakingly thinking that if her kid was legal she was safe from deportation. NOT! She should have used the church and congregation to help her attain legitimate legal status, not to shield her from what she could have avoided.
I'm a good person but I will not use ignorance as an excuse for failure or in seeking sympathy. I tell all people empower yourself, don't expect others to have your best interest in mind, rely on yourself first and foremost. No one knows everything and we all need to ask for help a lot, but lets use a coalition of knowledge to move forward and onward for ourselves and our families.
you know what. i'm so sick of this shit. their is due process and a legal sensible way to handle people (from any country) including MEXICO, that want to become American Citizens. why oh why are we as a people letting all these illegals come right over the border. It appears to me that the mother should be investigated for child abuse. Shipping her 7 year old around the world for political purposes is not in the best interest of the child.
Why hasn't DCFS and the Detective Division opened an investigation and arrested those responsible?

I am really sick and tired of all this debate on our country's "illegals". They broke the law. They need to be deported. My parents came to this country as immigrants. They both went about staying in this country the LEGAL way. They both became citizens and also think that the illegal problem is terrible. OBEY THE LAWS OR GET OUT!

This just goes to show you how inept our government is. They do not want to send a message to the illegal aliens that if you want to sneak over here, you be sent back. The message given is Come over and hide its ok we won't do anything. Our country has become a joke to our neighbors.

Immigration is not trying to brake up a family and I wish the media would quit making it sound like they are. The son is a citizen but mom is not. The son can stay with relatives but mom has to go. If mom wants, she can take her son with her and they can be a happy family in Mexico. When he is older he can be here on his own as he would still be citizen. Just because he is a citizen doesnt mean he has to stay here. This sanctuary business is a joke. All those who are running the church and helping her are aiding a criminal. This city and country need to grow some gnads and start enforcing immigration laws.
