I would assume this means results for the last test will be mailed within the next...um...several years.
Isn't it true that the new list was held over so that Devine's little (very little) boy could be made off the old list because he failed part 1 of the new test and was therefore ineligible this time around?

I heard more of the boys from FOP got made merit. Last time Mike "Merit" Voight got made. Ald. Burke was allegedly Voight's clout. He still sits on the FOP Bd. with no word from Donahue. When will it stop. Here we go again.
I agree with the poster who said Austin should go after the real drunks...CFD! I cannot even begin to tell you how many firemen I've pulled over being stone cold drunk. Instead of blasting our own boys in blue, we should DUI firemen. I am sure you all agree-it is better than arresting CPD officers and sgts for being intoxicated. Right? I also agree if you see a hatband around the mirror-they had better be the officer! If not, too bad so sad...You're my DUI and Papa ain't gonna get you out of this one!

You mean the union that hasn't updated it's website since 2005?
Traditionally the department would promote the first 500 on the list. At this point they may have gone as high as 360 so 140 desreving may get passed up when the department tears down this list for the new deserving list.

It's awful easy to tell the merit picks. Talk to them for five seconds and you realize ninety percent are non compis mentis. The other ten percent might be good guys, but they couldn't pass the test, either! It's Irish clout cloaked in affirmative action. Bet it won't last. I couldn't face myself in the mirror if I skimmed dope money, blew off a serious job, beat my wife, or needed to be promoted over a more qualified individual. Theives and failures. You ain't shit outside this job.

One sells bullet proof vests fifty to seventy bucks(rippin his coworkers off) over Nates and Eagle uniform in Crestwood(at least in the stores youu can try them on first to fit them) when on company time, makes deliveries with the company car, then beefs about station assignments, lazy arrogant prick;(of the list though, fair is fair) the other mope is nothin but a gang banger(Ald Beavers/Stroger hack), and the other a former 18th and now 19th ward political hack, who was a merit specialist, should have been fired when he was caught planting a weapon, but with his clout took 15 days.....Been spoon fed his whole career, company car weekends off.

thats Right; promote more sgts and lesson the amount of patrolmen on the streets. its not like we are working with a skeleton crew as it is. whens the last time a recruit class came through?
Well then boys and girls any takers on how long it takes them to mail out the results from the newer test? My bet is Jan. late in the month.....as they have probably been sitting in a box in someone's closet for the last 4 months....
Congrats to all of you who made it legit. You and your family should be proud. To the merit babies, well..stay out of the way of the working police. Try not to mess up our lives to much. We all know you'll be returning to your coveted inside job in 6 mos.or less anyway.
As a Sgt. here is some advice and or what I've learned.
Your most important duty, is this,
KEEP YOUR MEN & WOMEN SAFE both physically and legally. If you see them going into a dangerous area, either go with them,go in the door or alley first, or stop them. Most chases aren't worth it, so don't be afraid to terminate it. Been downtown and it's not fun. Still if it's legit, and follows the guidelines, go for it, but know your order(s).
Your not God and in most cases not any smarter than the p.o. Don't be a micromanager. Supervise them but empower the troops also to make a decision. Remember, some have been doing this job a lot longer then you. If they give advice, think about it.
Don't embarrass yourself on the radio. Learn to count to ten if one of the troops piss you off. Never discipline or put them down on the radio. Talk to them in private or tell them in private how you want them to improve or handle a job next time.
You now have some power, don't abuse it. Don't be so quick with the SPAR or CR#. In most cases, the problem can be solved if you talk to them like a person. You can always do the formal thing. Give talking a try first. Still, there will be times when you'll have to go the formal way. Most supervisors hate doing this, but it's part of the job.
You're still really not part of the unit mgmt. team. But trust me, you will be accountable for when things go bad, but like a p.o. most times, you're never appreciated for the good you do.
Think of yourself as a glorified and well paid FTO. Let the W/C know everything. Just give em a heads up so they aren't put on the spot if downtown calls. Just like every position, we have some good and bad W/C's and Lt.'s. The good ones, ask how your doing, and go on jobs with you and the p.o.'s. The good ones arrive on the scene,calm the nerves and take control. Work for these bosses, they'll appreciate you.
In closing, treat the p.o.'s as people. Be sincere when you ask them how they're doing. Give em a pat on the back or even take a job for them once in awhile. And when they check off at the end of the day, thank them for coming to work and doing the job. These are the ones that will rush to your side,and back you up. These are the ones who come to work and aren't abusing the medical.
Again congrats to all the legit sgt's who made it.

Hey, just thought I'd add something to all you bitter, disillusioned P.O's not on the Sgt's. list. Not all of those names are political hacks, or 35th street dollies, or 2 year wonders, or bosses kids. I know of at least ONE P.O. who has 25 NON politically connected years working the streets pushing a beat car and doing it without whining, made it, and I am dammed proud of him! So go back to watching porn in your basement and crying in your beer.
You guys should all be ashamed of yourselves. The constant backbitting, the belittling of other officers, the second guessing, the out and out condemnation of officers who are simply trying to do their jobs the way they were trained to do and the ridiculing of officers being promoted, its embarrassing and makes all of us look like asses. I'm astounded that you constantly seem to think that somebody is getting something you're not and because you're not getting it, they don't deserve to. Yet rarely do I see the chronic complainers trying to better themselves through more education, better preparation, increased activity or even making an effort at simple civility. Morale on this job isn't low because of what the bosses do, its low because of what we do to ourselves and to each other. Grow up people!!!!!!!!

The new sergeants list isn't going to be released because of 2 reasons. The first because Cheryl Pontecore hasn't been "given" chevrons yet. The second is whomever is grading the test, laugh now, has decided to throw out at least 3 of the questions.
Detective's class in February or March next year.
Lieutenants class soon.
Not only is John Clafford having a sex change soon, he is working on a new personality.
And finally, the residency requirement will never be removed. It's all about politics! Look at the new sergeants. The politicians insult the rest of us goofs by wanting us to believe that in every one of these promotion classes there is at least 20 people who you know as well as I do they couldn't pass gas by themselves. As certain LT. told me that there are two types of people on this job, the ones who boss people around and the ones who have to listen. That's politics!

The best damn working sergeant out there is Dale Kingsley in 012! he was a ball buster on Mids in 009, but if you were a worker-he took care of you. We will always respect and remember his caliber of work here on Mids.
Hopefully this new class of sgts can be a little like him.

Yeah, there are a few good ones there, for sure, like always. There are some clinkers on the list, as well.
I concur with Dale, he was always the police in 012 before being promoted, a great copper!
I agree. Kingsley was a cop's cop. Too bad he left 009 for 012? We could use a REAL POLICE sgt now on Mids in 009.

in the past the sgt's list went below the 500 mark to make sgt's which in my opinion is a good number. to study your ass off and not make it because the city and the department decides to only take 360 or so off the list is crazy. how can they justify spending several million on a new test when there are still qualified people on that list. and f(%^ the merit list. the officers that should make it, i.e. getting shot and/or seriously injured in the line of duty don't make it meritorsly as was the past practice. instead those with clout that shouldn't even be on the job let alone supervising officers make it. thats what the department wants. jagoffs supervising us. be careful

Firstly, they're not husband and wife, they are brother and sister.
Secondly, I know that J. O'd made it on merit because he is part owner of a large cattle ranch that supplies all the bosses with angus beef.
Thirdly, I know that W.O'D madit off of the list, however she had recieved (purchased) the answers on ebay. Don't believe me? Google it yourself!
