Daley Loses Labor Endorsement

Tribune and Sun Times coverage

This would be a big deal if he actually needed their votes. Or their volunteers and political contributions and phone banks and voter recruitment.
  • Mayor Richard Daley shrugged off Tuesday's announcement that the Chicago Federation of Labor would not endorse him in the Feb. 27 election.

The decision not to endorse any candidate for mayor marked the first time that the CFL has not supported Daley since he became mayor, CFL officials said.

It would be a bigger deal if the Chicago Federation of Labor actually endorsed one of Daley's opponents and threw their weight behind that campaign effort.

Anyone know if the FOP endorsed any Daley competitors or competitive aldercreatures?

The FOP in conducting interviews this week with candidates that asked for FOP endorsement. Daley for the first time since his first election has asked for the FOP endorsement...think he is worried?
Wouldn't it be nice to be in that interview ?

I must say I am pleasently surprised at Todd Stroger.

I wanted to barf when he got "elected." But he is surprising all of us skeptics with his Cook County Budget for 2007.

The $3 billion dollar budget does not call for tax hikes and cuts thousands of county jobs and social programs.

Way to trim the fat Todd. Keep surprising me.

Sgt. T.S. (1130) is the best sergeant that this city has to offer. He is well liked by blue-shirts and respected by fellow sergeants. Being on his log is such a pleasant experience that there is a waiting list just to get into the 30 sector. The privileged officers that routinely work the 30 sector often have higher morale and exhude greater confidence as compared to other officers on the watch. Perhaps this is due to the support and leadership that T.S. demonstrates on a daily basis. He always has the working p.o.'s best interests in mind.
T.S. is so well liked that whenever his co-workers travel, they frequently write the letters TS (with permission by the property owner of course) in visible locations to show their appreciation of him. It has even been rumored that a TS has even been sighted in the bathroom stalls of Brittish Parliament, the bar of Senor Frogs; Cancun, all Seven Wonders of the World, various former Iraqi Baathist government buildings, and Ald. Ed Smith's personal bathroom at Chicago's city hall.

I hereby nominate Jeff T. for supervisor of the year. Party will be held 31FEB2007 at 7pm, at Miami Bowl on Archer Ave. Tickets for event are $20 and are being sold in the tac room of 011. I am sure the tickets will be gone very quickly so get your ticket early.

While "the lesser of two (or more) evils" is one thing, FOP Lodge 7 and knowledgeable voters are faced with a dilemma in next month's mayoral election.

Pathetically, the only rational option is NO ENDORSEMENT whatsoever.

All things considered, there is only ONE viable candidate for a mayor with proven integrity. He has not thrown his hat into the ring:

PATRICK FITZGERALD, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

At least he is trying to do something about the bloated Cook County budget and payroll. Hopefully he won't yield to the pressure from people like Claypool, (a lakefront liberal who is no friend of the police), and the so called "reverands" that were protesting in front of Fantus clinic yesterday. Keep up the good work Todd!

Well folks it is hard to imagine the city of "Big Shoulders" without some form of controversy. The sgts exam is a farse, along with the the Lts. exam. They (meaning the forces that govern) promote who they want to. If you are related to someone or have some type of political power you have a good chance of getting the chevrons, bars, or whatever. I have a problem with the scoring of the exam in general. Who scores the exam? Does one person score the written essay part? Do they give the same score for the answers that are given (of course not)? The number one question!!! Why in the world give a sgt's test when you want to promote 2 or 3 more classes off the old list.

Lodge 7 better not fucking endorse that idiot Daley. Before they speak for all its members, maybe they should send a makeshift ballot to each home or make a call to each home and ask a simple question. DO YOU WANT DALEY BACK IN OFFICE. I'll bet 90%+ would say No Fucking Way!!!

Off the subject: anybody visiting this blog from/work in the 4th district? If so, I feel your pain when it comes to manpower. I dont see any police by my home and crime and gans are way out of control. Could you post just how few police officers "actually" work the street on each watch. I'm sure the low number will be staggering especially because of the size of the 4th district neighood. 7500 south to 13800 south. 4100 east all the way to 1200 east. I wish a reporter would take this story (dept's manpower shortage and crime) and run with it.

There but for the grace of God go any number of us. We like to think that we are always on top of things. But, can you say that you practice gun safety the RIGHT way ALL the time?

Before you respond, ask yourself...does the top of the fridge equal gun safety? How about the night stand? Kids climb, watch our moves like hawks and generally go everywhere we don't want them to go. I AM NOT DEFENDING the actions of the grandmother/CCSP officer; her actions were clearly careless and she has been charged. However, I am saying that more than one of US probably escaped a potentially tragic situation at some point in our career.

I ask myself...how can this woman go on? Talk about taking it one day at a time. I cannot imagine being her and waking up the next day and having to live with what I had done. Have some empathy for this woman. Believe me. Her life ended that night, too.

Are you jelous. I worked with John a few times. one great cop. I remember when he recovered THREE hot new Caddies all with ocupants in ONE tour plus OT. He made up his special VIN list with all new Cadillac steals in the USA. I think the state plates always checked clear.

He was crazy in a good way.
On the mids in a driving rainstorm, I'd sit in the squad while he gets out to flashlight Caddie VIN plates parked outside the bars. We got 2 dudes in a new El Dorado stolen in Detroit. Some guys hit the hole while he'd go prowling down alleys with the lights off at 4 am.

He loved making felony arrests. The DC loved him. When he came across weed, he'd pump dude about unsolved murders. Then he would throw reefer in the sewer and cut dude loose. He hated going to Br. 57 on bullshit.

Only problem was he wouldn't even take GOOD money and the wife and me had 4 kids to support back then.

Stop telling lies, goof.
