Nice Slanted Reporting

  • The Chicago Police Department is investigating a handful of police employees for suspected misuse of disabled parking signs, a department spokeswoman said this week.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Department of Revenue has begun taking down disabled parking signs that were issued to people who have died or moved away.

All well and good. If people are using disable spaces and placards improperly, slap them around. Fine them. Discipline them. We doubt it's a separable offense. But then the Sun Times uses the most outrageous photo it can find and captions it in a deliberately inflammatory way making it seem a Canine Officer regularly flouts the law by parking in a handicapped spot. One has to read well into the article to find that the officer says the signs were for his ex-wife and he has asked the city to remove them. Canine Officers are required to park their vehicles on the public way in front of their residences. It really isn't his fault if the city is lax in getting around to removing signs - and according to the article the city has been MORE than a little lax in removing somewhere near 10% of the signs.

We just hope the officer can prove his contention that he asked the city to remove the signs in a timely fashion. We don't need the continuous bad publicity.

It's about time that somebody do something about this and I hope that this rollsdown to everyone who has a disabled placard and has been abusing this for a long time. Especially in the downtown area where most of the vehicles park on a meter has a disabled placard hanging on their car and those f*&%king priviledge of parking there for free and I am obligated to pay those expensive parking fees. Why? because I have to pay for them. Actually you can buy one if you want to.

I know the officer in question.
He is an ardent supporter of the
disabled parking laws.
His wife has been out of the house
for a while, and he has mentioned
that he requested the signs be re-
moved.

Seeing that these spots are numbered, and only the permit
holder is allowed to park
in the spots, he shouldn't
have a beef.

If streets is back-logged, a crew should be sent out to remove the signs within a couple of days of the request for removal. Then, return at a latter date
to remove the poles.

If this was a CAPS service request would this get done in a more timely manner?

Knowing where this officer lives I'm guessing that a neighbor
droped the dime. The reporter
didn't just happen upon it.

I hope he doesm't get banged for
this.

Speaking of handicapped spots. There is a slew of them in front of headquarters. They are filled and on those vehicles bearing handicapped placards are fop stickers and medallions.

Are these coppers (house mice) handicapped and unable to walk from the street to the building where they (work) in? But able to call themselves police officers and commit theft on the 1st and the 16th.

These spots should be available for the police officers who need to park close to the building while visiting the medical section. Coppers that were hurt on the job, on crutches and so on. Instead they are taken up by these lazy dog asses who are about as close to being the police as the local gang banger.

Police headquarters is overfilled with political hacks that need to throw a uniform back on and get back to earning an honest living.

Its bad enough they work there and call themselves coppers. Its a shame they park right next to the building, place their placard on the mirror, get out and walk into the building to work their 4 1/2 hr tour and get paid for 8.

Shame on you all
Shame shame shame

DUBLIN, Ireland (CNN) -- At a recent debate over the battle for Islamic ideals in England, a British-born Muslim stood before the crowd and said Prophet Mohammed's message to nonbelievers is: "I come to slaughter all of you."

"We are the Muslims," said Omar Brooks, an extremist also known as Abu Izzadeen. "We drink the blood of the enemy, and we can face them anywhere. That is Islam and that is jihad."

The whole handicap parking issue should really be looked into. Just because your fat (diabetes, over eating, or just lazy) you should not get a tag. You go to the store see those fatso's parking there. Have their doctor put them on diets, not just sign a form for them. Years ago it was only the real handicapper (wheelchair guys or one legged man)that got a spot. Issue only plates no more hangers.

Wife has a red one, due to skiing accident. I am amazed at the amount of abuse in the system. Just look at those who usually park in the handicap spots. A small amount abuse them.

The biggest collection of handicap people ive ever seen are the ones who work downtown especially on wabash!

MY COMMENT TO ABOVE BLOGGER IS I TOTALLY AGREE. MIGHTY SUSPICIOUS DON'T YA THINK. DRIVE AROUND TO ALL THE AREA HEADQUARTERS. I SEE THE SAME THING THERE. CARS IN THE HANDICAP SPOTS, HANDICAPPED SIGNS HANGING FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR BUT ALSO ACTIVE FOP STICKERS OR SGT ASSOCIATION STICKERS IN THE WINDOW.

A HEADS UP. THE LAW SAYS YOU CANT HAVE ANYTHING HANGING FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WHILE DRIVING BLOCKING THE DRIVERS VIEW. HANDICAP SIGNS SHOULD NOT BE HUNG FROM THE MIRROR UNTIL THE CAR IS STOPPED AND IN PARK. USE IT FOR PROBABLE CAUSE WHEN YOU SEE A CAR ON THE STREET THAT LOOKS "WORTH" STOPPING.

Last I knew there was more to being the police than just chasing around after radio calls in a beat car. Alot of what gets done at 35th street is answer citizen's complaints, answering complaints and inquiries from aldercreeps that you don't want to deal with, putting together the orders and payroll and on and on. . . Unless you want civilians who know absolutely nothing about the job and could care less about taking care of you, stop whinning about those who are willing to kiss the collective asses we call "bosses" to put up with a ton of shit most policemen wouldn't be willing to touch.

If you want to work downtown, all you got to do is show that you can spell your own name and get out the paper. The stress down there is enormous because its all about ego. . .

People are so dependent on the government(i guess liberals have gotten their way), city officials, and now streets and sanitation workers. Here's a crazy idea: Pull the damn signs out of the grass yourself, or unscrew them from the ground. It is not very difficult. You could drop them off at a streets/sans facility or better yet you could just leave them at your wonderful aldermans office as a present.

Let's all keep voting democratic, maybe in a couple generations our kids won't even be able to wipe their own asses. Again liberals win, they don't really believe in having kids but like messing up yours.

Just a bit of advise from a old, old, old, retired dog ass. If the Slum Times continues its assault on the CPD you guys should assault it. Every copper from 018 & 001 should write every a-hole working for the rag. Pay your 50 cents for the paper and write every one of their drivers who blow a light or stop sign. Take them in for TVB's so the papers can't be delivered. Hit em where it hurts. And if anyone one of you is lucky enough to catch Mary Mitchell dirty load it up big time on that scumbag. Believe me giving one of those assholes a mover and having them say "I'll have your job and I'll see you in court" is a feeling you can't imagine. I myself got Skippy Jacobsen twice. PRICELESS!!!

You want to really laugh. Go to 35th and Michigan and watch who has the handicap spots. Most of them are the fat assed civilians who don't want to have to walk. might lose some of that ass. If you really knew the parameters for handicap stickers, all you have to say is you can't walk more than 150 feet without getting tired. That covers all the lazy ass civilians at 35th and Michigan.

I am a retired PO who had to go to headquarters and had to argue with the guy in the guard shack to park in the lot. I retired because of MS and use a walker to aide me in getting around. I have a F**king PLATE and was denied parking in that lot until I requested he get a supervisor out there. When I WAS allowed in all the spots were taken with 'placards' and I still had to park way in the back of the damn lot. Sorry if this offends anybody but I was ready to drop a dime to the news media myself. Walk a mile in anybody's shoes who truely qualifies for the "privledge" of handicapped parking.

You above all others should have been given the VIP treatment. Every Tyrone - Lucidna - and Harry coming to 35th Street are allowed to park in the "VIP" section.

As for the "handicapped" amongst us. How about the female 2 who works in the Medical Section who walks as well as anyone else around here. She parks her Buick every morning and scampers into the Medical Section. I wonder, given her profession, if there is some skull duggery afoot with her placard?

This is a contract year for the FOP. We should all be aware that as in the past, the news media will hammer the police officer and the fireman in a negative light. Be prepared for many more news articles listing all the po's who are currently under investigation for wrong doing and the fire fighter accused of domestic battery or dui's. This is standard operating procedure for da Mayor and his contract negotiators. The spin will be, how can the city afford to pay all these police and fireman who are so corrupt and then call for more investigations. This will continue until the FOP has sold out another unit such as MAIS or the Traffic Enforcement unit. We will all be told that the FOP did a great job in keeping our benefits intact and in the light of all departments needing to pay a little more into the health benefit deduction, we will only get another meger co-pay of 5 or 10 dollars a year for the life of the next contract.
The dems control the news media and you shouldn't expect anything less than a knife in the back from them.

this link is the LE guide for disability plates and placards. it tells us almost everything we need to know including that the validity of all plates and placards CAN be checked through LEADS. what it doesn't say is what to do with a placard after you've confiscated it. 2 pages, print it, use it http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/vsd687.pdf

Residency is a state law. Better check again when contract talks start. Better yet, check back when you know what you are talking about.
-----------------------------------
State law huh? So why is it there are dozens of police departments with NO residency in this state?
Dipshit.

DUDE, IT IS A STATE LAW. OTHER ILLINOIS SUBURBS ARE UNDER THE CAP ON POPULATION WHICH DICTATES WHETHER OR NOT RESIDENCY CAN BE LIFTED. CHICAGO HAS TOO BIG A POPULATION SO UNTIL THE LAW ACTUALLY CHANGES, WE CAN'T TOUCH IT.

Why doesn't the officer just pull the signs out himself?Thats what I would have done,no sign, no problem.

The PO from news affairs IS getting sent back to TRU, that's where she was detailed from. She'll prob. be back at TRU next period. Sgt's in TRU are being asked who will take her back on their team.

LET'S FACE IT [seriously]........

The major newspaper in the 3rd largest city in the nation and the most important headline/topic is a copper parking a marked vehicle in front of his house [that once was a handicapped spot] AND PUT IT ON PAGE 1 !!!

Hey! Isn't there a war going on?

Are there not politicians STILL out there rooting & stealing?

How about a story about the Military, Police and Fire that risk their lives on a daily basis..now that's PAGE 1 material if you ask me.
Have we become that complacent?

Ask a bunch of people you know why they read the Scum Times. Most will tell you it's just easier to read and handle than the Tribullshit.
[A single book fold vs. double fold out larger sections]

Getting back to my original statement, " LET'S FACE IT"......

No self-respecting person would wrap a fish in either newspaper!!

Stay safe my brothers.........

When I was shopping at
Walmart in Evergreen Park I saw a marked CPD squad from the 005th district in a handicap spot. When I was leaving 2 200lbs f/1's were getting in the squad in full uniform.

Sounds like the same crew I saw about 3 wks ago in Oak Lawn shopping at a super K-mart.Marked
squad parked illegally and both roaming thru the aisles with their carts loaded up and in uniform.

How do you know it was slanted reporting. How do you know the officer requested the signs removed. Oh that's right you know everything ! Do you ever get enough of yourself.

I saw the comment about leaking on MMs grave. Ya know, a lot of people say something like this, but nobody ever seems to do it.

Can we get a list of really bad dead people and their gravesites, so that maybe we can get this practice started?

memo back to Jan 19 6:26:22am thanks. Also to any copper who is unfamiliar with the new placards---if you are in a hurry or just want to question or f--k with a driver, ask them their d.o.b. The placards have holes punched in the month and year of birth of the person it is assigned to. I admit it's not completely foolproof but most of the mutts using them illegally don't know this.

Please say it aint so beat 2211 third watch, P.O. R. W. You really did not issue a mover to a great kid from the neighborhood and by the way, he comes from a family that supports the police, for talking on his cell phone(no other violation). You were sitting on the light and thats the best you could find? WE dont need any more enemies. You need to work in the suburbs, you are not CPD.

1/18/2007 05:56:21 PM

I would like to thank the copper from 2211 that wrote the 'great neighborhood kid'. Regardless of how his family feels about the police, he is like hundreds of other fools that drive around this neighborhood-- with complete disregard for all traffic laws. Do you really think we should not enforce the law for fear of losing support from citizens? Give me a break and get your priorities straight. I give this officer credit. I live here and watch every clown with an FOP or CFD sticker blow through lights and stop signs, drive 60 mph on side streets and basically conduct themselves like ghetto mutts behind the wheel. It's MY KIDS and MY PERSONAL ride out here and I'd rather not be T-boned by this jack ass because he's been given a dozen other breaks by some puss afraid to write a police relative (or in your example, police fan). Whatever, grow a pair.
