Missing Tow Trucks

This has been the subject of a large number of citywide all-call messages and PDT notifications. Three city owned tow trucks decked out in the fluorescent yellow-green of the Traffic Management Authority have gone missing. Now it's the subject of a few media blurbs:
  • Chicago police were trying to locate three city tow trucks. The trucks were stolen from a fenced lot in the 900 block of South Exchange Avenue on Super Bowl Sunday.Police said, so far, they've had no reports of unauthorized towing and the motive behind the thefts remains unclear.
Inside job? Someone starting a towing business? Or a hot car ring? Or something more sinister? Speculate away.

My guess is that they were parked on a hydrant or in a tow zone. Anyone check the pound?

Too funny! How the f*ck do you drive off with 3 tow trucks? Better yet, where are they being hidden?

I'm willing to bet it was in inside job. Someone had to know that no one would be there to monitor who was coming & going, and, of course, where the keys would be.
This reminds me of the overnight Academy "lunchroom burglary" to the change and vending machines some years back. In a building that has a 24 hr. Police presence, no less.

Unfortunatly, he can't be everywhere in that building!

there have been several thefts of municipal vehicles since 9/11. if you take the time to recall, there have been tow trucks, fire trucks, police vehicles, Streets & Sans vehicles, Com Ed, Peoples Energy, Comcast trucks etc. etc. there's something more sinister at work here other than some simple car thefts.

someone in the know.

i totally agree with the first comment on this blog. i had planned to right the very exact thing until i read it.

it will happen. in-fact; we pull out from Iraq premature and the fight will come to our front door. then you'll see all the people start back peddaling saying "maybe Bush was right, maybe we should have stayed there until the job was done".

STOLEN TOW TRUCKS OH MY GOD, MAYBE WHEN I AM HANDLING A BAD ACCIDENT AND THERE ARE TWO CARS CRASHED IN THE MIDDLE OF STREET BLOCKING TRAFFIC , ONE OF THOSE STOLEN TRUCKS WILL COME AND RELOAD THE CARS. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT WHY IT TAKES SS FIVE HOURS TO COME TO ACCIDENT SCENE AND IN DOWNERS GROVE,ILL IT ONLY TAKES 10 MINUTES. SOMEBODY STOLE THE TOW TRUCKS.

I agree with the guy who suggested that the vehicles had been repo'd. Fits the bill better than any other explanation. Chicago may be the "city that works" but its also the "city that doesn't pay its bills." Go Figure!

A little off topic. I was driving in my personal car today and saw one of those funky green TMA/S&S Tow trucks. The driver was out hooking a car wearing of all things an official Chicago Police winter hat. WTF is up with that? Bad enough these clowns tow our cars but to be playing police on top of it? I say f&@k 'em!

Yeah, yeah. Let's not insult my military background. I'm sure if we compared 201 files and DD214's you wouldn't feel so superior. All I'm saying is we all need a little bit more common sense and a little less panicking.
