Closed Market - Rest in Peace

Remember the fanfare? Remember the publicity? Remember the headlines?
  • Desk Cops Back to the Beat! (paraphrasing here)
  • Driving a Desk no More! (paraphrase)
  • Cops - Out from under the Desks! (we're REALLY paraphrasing here)
Somewhere on or around 01 April, Operation Closed Market will be formally disbanded, but as of this week, all the equipment was mothballed and no one at Headquarters has to go on the street anymore - except for those 80 "not quite heavy enough" people sent back to Districts to replace the new TRU platoon that became operational 29 March.

We're waiting for that other "official" blog to mention that open air narcotics markets have been eliminated as a source of illegal drugs, illicit case and homicidal tendencies across the west and south sides.

Why such a successful program was allowed to die off without a word of it's phenomenal accomplishments makes us wonder - was it all smoke? Or just mirrors?

Operation Closed Market (you know, after an open air drug market is shut down, district people will be there to make sure drug sales don't resume)...hahaha, what bullshit; to be replaced by "we love tru", which means that folks previously detailed to hq, or other useless units, will be returned to the field (well, most, excepting those with real clout (married to exempts, family with exempts, "you know what" with exempts), who are re-re-assigned to other useless units). How much dope (in thousands of metric tons) comes into this country every year? And, by the way, we love tru...

NOt only the "cops" with the no clout spots at 35th street, but all of the patrolman from the detective division have been yanked. No more patrolman at the desk or on mission teams...

I hear that quite a few junior members originally earmarked for the big "dump" managed to survive.

Where's FOP on this whole issue? What about seniority? That is one of the few benefits we have left that is enforceible.

After the FOP President kissed Phil's ass publicly the other day after the 25th District event I guess we know where FOP's loyalties are.

Um, did you just get off probation or are you really that stupid? FOP has never, ever, displayed any loyalty to their members. For twenty five years- since we have had that phony contract- FOP has done more harm to us than the city. FOP only cares about FOP. It is a Fraternal group like the Elks, the Moose, or the VFW.

If you think I am full of it, I have a test for you. Go to them and claim that a boss is violating Federal and State labor laws. They will tell you that they cannot do anything and why would you want to get a fellow PO- a boss- in so much trouble. Then they will call the boss and tell them about your accusations. It happened to me twice in twenty years. FOP stands for F@#$ Our Police. We have no union and toilet paper is more useful than the paper our contract is written on.

Close market, what a load of shit. Everytime I seen those dogs outside rollcall in 011 it made me wanna throw up. Everytime they had to take police action, they wouldn't, they called for a district car. They sat around like the lazzy dogs. Thank god i dont have walk past them anymore, if it wasnt the loud mouth broads taking about what they went shopping for, or the "sgt." talking about "old war" stories. Go back to your desk, you were useless in 011.

Don't let those secretaries with guns on the street, they will either end up hurting themselves or us. If they do go on the street put them on fixed posts with enought pop and wings to last them eight hours.

Closed Market was the biggest joke ever.

All the cars would do is park somewhat near dope spots and they would lock themselves in the car with a newspaper, a dvd player or sleep.

You think some worm who has been stuck behind a desk in HQ their whole career has enough smarts/courage to get out?

Almost all the 35th street people were sent south for the most part to cover for the people who went to TRU, there was a lot of crying, but they went.

Maybe some bosses with brains will utilize the "desk dollies" correctly by assigning them to the hospital details, guard crime scenes, runs for the desk, doa investigation, traffic crashes or just paper jobs (because they love sitting behind a desk doing paper)

But closed market was a good idea. It made all the hidden forces work the street.

Work the street? You muist be soft. Almost none of the eye candy from DS office worked and that included his driver who worked it one day and was heard by no less than 30 people saying this was his one time a year and he was "too important" to have to sit on dope spots.

And almost no one from IAD ever showed up. And the PO's in the Detective division? Never showed up. And the District dollies would be carried OCM on the sheets while working hidden away inside doing some other crap.

Hidden forces worked the street? You must be high

Way to go, Phil. OCM was a brilliant police strategy and a viable crime deterrent. Numerous crimes were thwarted by the presence of those useless fat asses sitting in a squad car sleeping. You would have done better to put cardboard cut-outs in the car! Same police smarts. Better personalities.

I'm gonna miss Closed Market.

That was the only time that I can get a really good meal at a discount and got my errands done!

To all who call us dogs!

Go ahead and make your stupid drop case arrest of a bag of dope, only to get a finding of No Probable Cause in court by a Liberal Judge!

Go ahead and get involved in stupid car chases for some assholes car that is covered by insurance while the offender your chasing kills innocent people but your named as a defendent in a lawsuit in Federal Court for chasing him!

Go ahead and make that Domestic Battery arrest and then watch the same couple laugh at the police a few days later while they screw each other again, while you have to answer dumb CR numbers!

Then the City and you Police Officer, will get sued for those incidents and you'll appear with one of those spineless Corp Counsel Lawyers in Federal court telling you to list your assets or we are just going to settle the case against the Plaintiffs.

When that happens you'll join the dog pound real quick just like the rest of us and circle your retirement date on your calender and say to hell with Chicago!

Oh yea, that helped. The 8th district lost 6 cops to TRU and got back 2 (one of the two is on the medical). Yep, screwed again.

Wow, you guys are brutal but it also is funny. Unfortunately you judge everyone as the same and yet you want citizens to be virtuous enough to see each of us as different than say - the officer who is currently in a heap of crap. How can you expect something you don't even give your own?

Yes, I had an administrative "desk" position. It was surprisingly more work that I had being on the streets in 011, 015, 002, and 013 for a sum of 19 years on this job. I'm still pretty young too. Anyway, the work never stops and everyone needs everything yesterday. I didn't complain about it then just like I didn't complian about my work when on the streets. Its work. That is what it is supposed to be.

I understand the culture of the Department that makes street cops despise desk cops. I think its sad that each of you who comment in that way aren't a little wiser and even more sad that there is so little cohesiveness.

Everyone can't have the same assignment throughout their career, its silly to think you will. And all work involving this department must be done. Field and Administrative duties. Maybe admin jobs should ALL only go to civilians. Then some of you will complain how they just don't get it...

Take care and don't worry, if there's anything I've forgotten I know to ask one of the oldtimers on the desk.

The Keesing Bandit says---

Hey--19 years on the job and losing your desk at HQ--

You haven't been around in a while. There are no old-timers on the desk to ask anything you've forgotten. Forget about it--it's all changed. Now, there are only young girls who never did anything anyway.

Now, kees me you fool!!!

Obviously, you must not be aware that about 100% of the jobs at 35th St. have absolutely NOTHING to do with seniority. You know damn well get there by JUICE! Now because you may have been launched and someone with less time was kept there, you want a union beef?? You took the job by having some sort of clout, and you lost it because someone else has MORE clout. Sorry, you live by the sword, you die by the sword! You want seniority rights, bid to a district. I've got 20+ years all on the street in a district, and guess what? The D/C cannot take me off days, cannot change my day off group, cannot change my furlough, cannot dump me and cannot send me to a detail.
You want TRUE seniority? Put EVERY position, including those at 35th St up for bid. After all, why should some connected 3 yr wonder get an inside 5 day work schedule with fri-sat, sat-sun or sun-mon as rdo's? Let the 25-30 yr guy have the choice. THEY EARNED IT!!!
Be Safe!!

Once again DS and his fluky BR play there games and they get rid of people that were no longer in his office but still assigned to 140. Keeps the F/1 with 2 years on who is still detailed and gets rid of people with 10,15 and 20 years on becasue they have been taken care of there whole career. What kind of BS is that and then get rid of a F/1 from CAPS and bring back a F/2 who must have something going with BR because she is useless and even her man FL dumped her. DS keeps 2 timekeepers who are PO's when they have less than 50 people in the unit. Why is Phil letting him get away with this???? Someone should file a grievance big time!
