i work in 008 and liked cmdr J.C. its a real shame he is leaving, contrary to what people said about him on this blog, he was a fantastic boss. i am dreading lt L.S. i think we should all dread him, from what i hear from people who have worked with him is that he is not a team player and will not stick up for his troops. he is highly connected through politics and is only looking out for himself. if you thought you had it bad in 008 with j.c....which we didnt, its gonna get a whole lot worse. ls is comparable to former cmdr harry h... hope you all realize in 008 that we are loosing a great boss... hang on boys and girls, were in for a rough road ahead of us.

When he was a P.O., Leo was an EXCELLENT copper, years ago but, the way I hear it, when he was meritoriously promoted, he believes he actually deserves the promotions and his head got bigger than both of his arms put together. As others have said, it's always about Leo, all the time.
Leo is all about Leo but he will back you 100%, The workers will love him, the dogs will not.
Patton is a decent guy...glad he got the bump up. Way to go!
With regard to 008.....time for the dogs to either step up their game, or leave. New Commander Schmitz won't give the dogs the time of day, and we all know 008 has more than their share. A hard charger is coming, and not a minute too soon. Say what you want about the man, he'll whip a lot of people into shape over there, and it needed to happen a long time ago. Good luck, Leo. I work in 008 on 1st watch with Capt. Graeber, he should be the one taking over as D/C. A great guy and he is the epitomy of what higher up white shirt's should be and be doing, he's the working police and would have your back in an instant. Im dont know too much about the new guy coming in but from what i've been hearing im a little nervous.

I have worked for Leo for the past 2 years and he is probably on eo the most approachable bosses that I have ever worked for in Law Enforcement. He does expect his troops to be loyal and work hard, but that is only because he works hard and is loyal as well. 008, dont believe the negative stuff you may hear. It is probably from lazy cops who didnt like the fact that Leo wanted results. He will be missed by those who know what the job needs in a boss.

My son was the victim of a strong armed robbery/battery in the 008 District where the offender was arrested by a beat officer. I went to the 008 District station to request a court date and was making copies of the case/arrest reports in the upstairs office with assistance from a couple of review officers when a very overweight individual approached me and in a tough guy voice stated "wheres your id card, put it on" and then walked away. The review officer told me that this guy was the Commander and that he was aware of my situation. This guy didnt ask how my son was or if he could assist me, all he did was give me that -Im the boss- bullshit. I cant tell you how upset i was about this. I know a ton of bosses who would have extended themselves to help another officer, but not this idiot. On top of all of this, the Commander was in civilian dress and he was not wearing his ID card. I just wanted to let the blog know about this guy. I would never want to work for the old 008 District Commander and let my experience guide others who will be under his Command. Also, I will always be grateful to the 008 District beat, desk, review officers who helped me during this incident.

I was out there when that plane ended up on Central Ave. -- that only reason why that incident went as smoothly as it did was because Carroll was put in charge. The only criticism to come out of that incident was HItney's stupid pictures. Can you think of any other major incident that has happened in Chicago in the last few years that hasn't been the subject of how the Exempts fucked up the incident and then criticized and this website. I don't recall any criticism directed at Carroll for his ability to run the airplane crash

Just heard that the 008th District has a new way to raise money for CPD charities. Capt Spratt and Cmdr Leo and going to have a nude wrestling match. Winner will be awarded with the title of "biggest
self-righteous asshole in the 008th District." Ticket prices and location to be announced later.
Let's look at the L.S. situation. Here's a guy who was a very good patrolman. He excelled in that position, and should have remained there.
There is a reason that he has been a merit promotee all the way--he's not CAPABLE of anything else on his own. This guy still THINKS he's a patrolman..he acts like a spoiled tact guy..jumping on paper, hogging the air and beating his chest. Yes, his teams have done good things, but they have accomplished those things DESPITE him, not BECAUSE of him.
Cline's departure is nearer that we all think. He's tying up loose ends, taking care of all his guys and will be among the retired soon. Unfortunately, he's leaving us to deal with his legacy.
L.S. is conceited and selfish. He will sell you out in a heartbeat if it will make him look good downtown.There was barely enough space in a single room for Leo and his ego. Now that he's a Commander, there better be TWO rooms available.
Also, let's look as his supervisory experience...he's never supervised more than a dozen or so people at one time. How in the hell do you think he's going to be able to handle a district? She is also disliked off duty too (gee-what a suprise) by the other neighborhood moms. She forces herself and her kid on them and their kids for play dates, they can't stand her. Makes me laugh every time.

Just remembered a funny one about Weiss. Years ago a friend called me and said turn on the tv, ya gotta see this: Weiss was on the Jenny Jones show (female Jerry Springer of her time) in a real lame episode where they wanted to hook up some Irish guys. And I mean Irish. She was in her leather mini trying to act all cute and look at me. The funniest part was when the best of the bunch (and that's being kind) picked another lady to take on a date. You should have seen her pointy jaw bone and snozzer drop with her mouth open...she was THAT sure she would get to be his date (arrogance even back then). Even funnier was the guy who picked her was about as tall as her and looked like a leprechaun! heeheehee, sure wish I had it on tape.

You know I'm tired of the "old commander in 008 was great" bullshit. I do my job and then some. I also hate the dog asses. But He was NOT a person that would back just anyone up. You had to be "one of his guys". I know that personally. I had went to him with a serious family issue and he treated me like shit. Nothing like helping a good working fellow officer huh? If the new comndr is stuck on himself, and idiot or whatever it's fine with me. As long as he lets me do my job, back me up when I need it and helps any P.O. who comes to him with a problem.
As far as that comment about Cpt. Greaber....he is the best white shirt out there and he should be the cmndr! He treats everyone like your the best P.O. out there! Example: He came into roll call one day and didn't bitch (as many bosses do) about having to answer why our numbers on curfews were low. Instead he "asked us to do him a favor" and if we "could" get him some curfews he "would greatly appreciate it". Can you believe it! A man in that position ASKED us to do HIM a favor???? End of story: Our mission was to do what he asked and got a shit load of curfews for him. NOW THAT IS NOT ONLY A GREAT BOSS BUT A GREAT HUMAN BEING. Hey cpt. we don't care what cmndr comes in ....we hope you are here to stay!!!!

I don't know anything about Leo except what I have read so far, and don't take everything on here seriously. Hopefully he isn't that bad. J.C. was always good to me. But why pick on Spratt? He is a GREAT boss! Give me a break. I am guessing you have less than 5 years on and know everything, right? Trust me, there are MANY worse bosses than Spratt. I admit I am on tact, not the watch, but from what I have seen if you are a good, hardworking copper (not a kiss-ass...but a loyal, dependable and respectful officer)he treats you like gold.

I agree with you 1000%. He thanked me once after approving my arrest report.
SO.....Everyone is saying that Leo was a good copper, but a bad boss.
At the same time, everyone bitches that the merit promotions should go to good coppers, not hacks.
We can't have it both ways, people!!!
Morale in 008 has been at an all time low for awhile now so I'll give this new guy a chance. The way I see it if he smiles and shakes my hand and doesnt stab me in the back... Im happy.
I was there when Leo S.was so called shot in the 12th district. All bullshit. Heard him at the award ceremony a year later, all bullshit. He is one hell of a self promoter. Very similar to John Kerry. He was an aggressive p.o., but also looked out for number one.
Leo has done a good job distancing himself from Sgt. P. and the rest of his team.
So keep that in mind, when Leo is demanding warrants and more warrants out of your teams, if one goes bad, you and your team are on your own,, just ask Sgt.P about what a good guy Leo is and how he'll back you up all the way..
What did you expect him to do in that situation? it was a bar beef that got bad, captured on tape, the sgt. lied about being there and got busted, he can't do anything about that. that's why they have little yellow slips, fill them out!
I can honestly say I've never met commander J.C. of 008 or even seen the guy while at work, but from the stuff I've heard he used to be a stand-up guy and that he has changed...for the worse. The man could care less about the west-end of 8. As far as Capt Spr...........there is nothing wrong with the guy. The asshole posting negative stuff about him is the fuckin rat-fuck who called IAD about him wearing plain clothes at work. WHO CARES! I wouldnt care if the guy wore a fucking mini-skirt as long as he treated everyone good (like he's been doin). He's a Capt for christs sake! I think the man has earned it! I think its some asshole trying to stir some shit up as with the comments about Lt. E. So what if the guy tells stories at roll call!!!!!!!! Would u rather have him belittle you like some other districts? I'll put it to u this way, if you work and I mean work you will have no problems working 3rd watch. They speak to u like adults, roll call is laid back, and the bosses are just fine. Whoever is the jag posting the negative shit (except Comm J.C. stuff) has noooo idea what it is like to work in a shit district. If you don't like the guys then leave because you are the fuckin reason why the west end is goin to shit u lazy ass! and no I'm not a kiss ass and I dont know these guys personally. I'm getting made Sgt. ( legit ) in the first class. I'm gonna waste a call to get to 008 and stir up some shit. I promised myself I would be a P.O.'s supervisor. These fools all forget where they came from. They think this shit is for real. After a few periods of foot shuffling and friction with the lazy, merit Lt.s, the might dump me to 007 or 002. That is an improvement from 008.

No, didn't really strike a nerve... just thought I would tell you that I am not a M-2 or Irish. We aren't all, ya know. And no, no phone call. Yes, tact sucks. We no longer are really allowed to be the police and most of us hate that. I would go back in a heart beat to the watch if I got dumped. Many of us really don't care! But I will stay for the VERY FEW perks still there as long as I can. And yes, my hand hurts from contact cards. And those gang dispersals, stupid Wolf Pack missions, DOC missions, and every other ridiculous mission we are given all suck. Never said I was a super copper...just wanted to correct you in that we are not all white irish males. And my point was the reason they asked 10 people to be on tact to fill a spot is because nobody wants it anymore. Don't blame them, either!
