Police v Fire - Hockey Game

As Bill Kugelman (former or current head of the CFD Local - we can't remember which - sorry Bill) reminded us in a comments section, the Police/Fire Charity Hockey Game is Saturday around noon.

Come out and support your team and the Gold Star Families. We went a few years back and it was a very friendly, family oriented event. If we can find the time and energy, we'll be there again.

UPDATE: The game is at noon, United Center (or whatever they're calling it nowadays). Cost is $5, kids under 12 free.

What about the HOG Bosses pensions. They are going to bankrupt our pension fund. The FOP can give all the money want to the police-fire game, but who is going to fund our pension? FOP plaese stand up.

Bill Kugelman is the former President of International Association of Fire Fighters Local #2. He is retired from the C.F.D. after about 40 years service and his last assignment was as Chief of Battalion 24 located at Montrose and Kedzie.

While serving in the 17th District many years ago I had the pleasure to work with him at many fire scenes. There was no one more knowledgeable about fires and the people who fought them. Mountain of a man, always had a smile and great with the police.

He is the father of fallen Illinois State Trooper John H. Kugelman, who was was EOW watch in November 1986 due to a vehiclar assault.

Bill if you read this,I hope you are doing well and enjoying retirement.

Frank Main is such a piece of crap! In the story memorializing the fallen Firefighter, he just HAD TO include how the firefighter used a hose connected to a hydrant to fill his pool each summer! What a complete and toal jagoff this guy is. We know he hates the police, but now he's gotta take shit on a dead firefighter too?

Human filth!

I turn on the news and not only does the anchor lead in with the fireman death, but then turns it over for a special report where they show old photos, interview crying family, play bag pipes in the back ground, talk to his bosses and they tell us, fighting back tears, how great of a man he was... and then the news lady does her piece... this goes on for about 5 minutes after the initial lead story... now why is it when a cop is killed in the line of duty actually at the hands of a bad guy, not just at the hands of someone DWB, it MAY get the #3 spot, it's over in 30 seconds and fat phil (or whichever dick head it is at the time) gives a rubber stamp speech and thats that??? Doesnt the fire department get enough already??? PLEASE!!! just a disgrace... my question is why wasnt he wearing a seatbelt??? and is an inspector gonna greet the comatosed fireman with a suspension when he comes to for not wearing one either? Ours certainly would... but no, they are the golden children so we can expect nothing but praises... piss off CFD!!

Illinois Roads Safer?

Recently the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) reported Illinois roads are safer than they have been in decades due to a slight drop in traffic fatalities. IDOT reported that the total number of traffic fatalities fell under 1,300 for the calendar year 2006.

Immediately after IDOT released this information to the media, the media ran with the headlines, “Illinois Roads Safer in Decades”. It appeared that the media only reported this alleged claim without any follow up questions to the reporting agency.

The number of traffic fatalities in any given year is not a true sole determinate on how safe the roads are. For example, if traffic fatalities slightly drop in one year but the total number of traffic accidents involving injuries triples in number, would one claim its a safer year?

To truly have had a safer transportation year, the total number of deaths AND injuries must have had decreased. Additional factors indicating safer roads would include a decrease in the total number of reported vehicular accidents and less traffic violation citations being issued.

A drop in traffic deaths can be related to several non-related “safer roads” reasons. The improvement in vehicle safety products such as airbags, better seatbelt and the advancements in vehicle structural designs to absorb greater impacts. Also playing a role in the overall fatality statistics is the improvements and advancements in medical trauma care both at the hospitals and with the first responders such as paramedics.

I spend most of my day either driving or being on the Illinois roads. It is clearly visible to me that driving is the worse I have seen it in my 30 years of driving. The daily newspaper support my opinion by the numerous daily stories of serious traffic accidents, many involving multiple deaths as well as serious injuries.

There was a day and time when a government agency’s claim was actually questioned by the media and not just reported. To just report that Illinois roads are safer than in decades is a false sense of security to the parents of young drivers. Parents today need more now than ever to supervise their young drivers as well as to support them with the needed driving skills to prepare them for a safer future.

As for emergency vehicles with lights and sirens, well I would have to say at least 50 percent of the drivers ont he roads have no clue what the proper procedure is. Many drivers just stop their vehicle right in front of you, pull to the left instead of the right blocking your path or even trying to out race your vehicle.

But the biggest question I have is how qualified are the people in the IDOT in regards to traffic safety when they can come to a false conclusion based solely on the total number of traffic fatalities. One would have to question if they have the ability to recognize needed traffic improvements and initiate them when they are covered under a false security blanket of “safer roads in decades”.

Sincerely,

Bill

Just got back from the hockey game. It was a really cool treat for the kids. You got to sit anywhere you wanted and lots of goals scored. It was a very entertaining experience for both young and old. during the intermissions the camera panned around and showed your faces and your kids face acting goofy. Very cool for the kids to be at.

If you missed it this year I suggest you make it next year, especially if you have young children.

and by the way CPD won in a shootout 6-5

Hey SCC, how about deleting the post of 3/24/07 2:07 p.m. That is just the lowest thing ever posted on this blog. If that is a real cpd cop, he should have his nuts cut off and fed to him. It is posts like this that show the citizens what self centered no balls jagoffs truly are on the job. Do everyone a favor and remove that post. A person who puts his life on the job gets killed and this is someones attitute. Whoever posted it should do us all a faver and perform oral sex on his gun. He or she is one lowlife miserable moron. We might do a differnt job than the fire department, but God bless them, I sure is hell wouldn't do their job.

Please don't get mad at 0207. Maybe he/she can get a game of twiddly winks going that is speedy enough.
I just got in from the game and it was a thriller to the end. CPD-6 and CFD-5 in a shootout. "GREAT GAME" Kids had a great time as always and Yes=Thanks to the Hawks people. No one seemed to recognize me with my hair buzzed off from the St. Baldrick event yesterday at the Fire Academy but I took a lot of crap from your Super Cline about the score. We will have to get you people involved at the Baldrick event next year. We are near $100,000.00 mark for Kids w/Cancer at the present time.
So,--Thanks for the memories and stay safe. As far as I'm concerned===Retirement sucks.......

They had Phil Cline on the ice before the opening face off. They fitted him into both goal nets to make sure that they were the regulation 4 feet high by 6 feet wide.

Matt T was noticeably slower this year wearing his Bobby Orr No. 4 jersey on defense. He was Minus -2 and was very timid on the point. Never pinched in. Time to let it go. It was fun while it lasted.

to 2:07:00 (firefighter basher) you sir are a complete moron and I hope that any firefighter who reads your post will not assume that you speak for ANY OF US (if you are the police). Seatbelt, no seatbelt who gives a rats ass, you jerkoff, the man died on the way to helping someone. I know thats what we all do, cops and firefighters both, but when one of us AND I DO MEAN US IN A COLLECTIVE WAY answer the final bell, or radio call, there is a hope that any such sacrifice will be met with sympathy and compassion, not the empty headed ramblings of someone who can't muster up the balls to say any of the things that you said to someones face. Take a ride over Christ The King Church on wednesday and watch as the firefighters honor one of their own. You will proably also see some CPD there in a show of solidarity. I know that I'll be there. You should be ashamed of yourself, whoever you are.
