WTF??? My cousin works in 003. He tells me that a couple of days ago, the commander and a lt. had to taze a mental on a call, and none of the sgts. on the scene had a goddamn tazer!! What kind of crap is that??? I thought supervisors are supposed to have them!! If they aren't, then why isn't the FOP doing something about this? If the Sgts. won't carry them, then the POs should be able to!! How about it, FOP?????

Can someone please disband this "b team" in 009. It has been so busy in 9 with the recent weather, but still they hold down 5 rapids a day on the b team (practically every rapid car). I just can't believe how stupid this is. We need those cars out there. Obviously cmd Roy doesn't see this as a problem, so i'm hoping that someone higher up sees this and starts asking questions. The watch needs these rapid cars. The beat cars are getting worked to death and getting stacked 4-5 jobs at a time. Someone please wake up and see this isn't working, especially now that it's getting warmer out.

I'd just like to say that I am very proud of all you who strap on a side-arm, don a shield and protect our great city. Despite all the venting, name calling, accusations, and mud slinging, the concesus is still unanimous: this is the greatest city to live nad work in. And I am grateful to be part of it and affiliated with its hard working coppers. Kee pup the good work and, as always, stay safe.

Sgts are required to carry them (at least in the vehicle), but they are not required to use them.

REGARDING TASERS, IN DOWNER GROVE EVERY P.O. IS TRAINED AND CARRYS ONE. i TALKED TO A SGT IN THE NORTH LAS VEGAS P.D. NOT ONLY IS EVERY P.O. AND SGT TRAINED TO CARRY IT IS ALSO MANDATORY THAT THEY CARRY THE TASER, BUT REMEMBER THIS IS CHICAGO,ILL.

hmmmm SGTS SHOULD HAVE TASER? LAST I HEARD OFFICER ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE NICE SHINY BATON TO CRACK PEOPLE ON THEIR FATTY MUSCLE PARTS ie. THEIR SKULL. THE DAY YOU NEED A SGT TO SAVE YOUR ASS IS THE DAY I GIVE YOUR FAMILY 5 DOLLARS FOR THE FLOWER FUND.

Read the order. You DO NOT have to be a Sgt. to carry a Taser. All you have to be is certified.

Sgts are not required to carry them, it's their choice once they are certified.

SPEAKING OF TAZERS!!!
HOW ABOUT ON 2 SEPERATE OCCASIONS A 016TH DISTRICT SGT EITHER DIDN'T HAVE ONE, OR REFUSED TO USE IT ON A MENTAL IRON WORKER who was goin nuts. A sgt calling for a sgt w/ a tazer???
Then too afraid to use it!
A tazer is a great tool! Flippin carry it anduse it if you need it!

Heck, on zone 10 2nd watch, we've got a couple of sergeants in Fillmo who routinely offer to go over the border into Marquette to taser combative subjects. They give out medals for most taser usages?

The reason many sergeants don't carry tasers is really quite simple. . .

The order requires that they be carried in the holster ON the duty belt. Unfortunately, if you have a normal sized waist (34" and under), there simply is not enough room on the duty belt to wear it comfortably. Thus, the only place to put it is on the back part of the belt where it will dig into your back while driving.

So they need to either amend the order, or put a lock box in the squad to keep the taser secure. If they did this, I guarantee you more sergeants would carry them.

A class of sergeants is coming up. "Merit" papers are due in the office of the First Deputy on 29 March. Usually a class starts four to five weeks after "merit" papers are submitted. Expect a class going to Detective Familiarization Training at the end of April or early in May.

With the way this Dept. is now being run and who is actually running it, the next Supt. will be female. And the mastermind behind that is the same one who got rid of Meigs Field..........maggie.

PO's are the TASER Instruuctors and they can't even carry them. I carry it everynight in a pocket on my vest, not the holster....Inspectors have something to say about it but oh well....At least I have it, don't care where it is....

Sergeants do not have to carry taser's. I tased a guy in Groucho's parking lot at 83rd and Pulaski, hit him with the juice 8 times and it had no effect. One of the coppers grabbed him around the chest and ended up moonwalking across the lot. Even pulled out the prongs and stuck it to his bare chest and it had no effect. I'm a big supporter of doing it the old fashioned way. Nothing like arriving on the scene and having 30 coppers standing there waiting for some guy to get electrocuted.
