Another Home Run

Mark Steyn writes what is probably the greatest argument for responsible gun ownership in a single paragraph in this past Sunday's Sun Times:
  • I live in northern New England, which has a very low crime rate, in part because it has a high rate of gun ownership. We do have the occasional murder, however. A few years back, a couple of alienated loser teens from a small Vermont town decided they were going to kill somebody, steal his ATM cards, and go to Australia. So they went to a remote house in the woods a couple of towns away, knocked on the door, and said their car had broken down. The guy thought their story smelled funny so he picked up his Glock and told 'em to get lost. So they concocted a better story, and pretended to be students doing an environmental survey. Unfortunately, the next old coot in the woods was sick of environmentalists and chased 'em away. Eventually they figured they could spend months knocking on doors in rural Vermont and New Hampshire and seeing nothing for their pains but cranky guys in plaid leveling both barrels through the screen door. So even these idiots worked it out: Where's the nearest place around here where you're most likely to encounter gullible defenseless types who have foresworn all means of resistance? Answer: Dartmouth College. So they drove over the Connecticut River, rang the doorbell, and brutally murdered a couple of well-meaning liberal professors. Two depraved misfits of crushing stupidity (to judge from their diaries) had nevertheless identified precisely the easiest murder victims in the twin-state area. To promote vulnerability as a moral virtue is not merely foolish. Like the new Yale props department policy, it signals to everyone that you're not in the real world.
Go read the whole thing. Steyn hits another home run for the Right.

A gun is one of those things, that when you absolutely, positively need one, nothing else will do!

Those poor lambs at VT never stood a chance. Another pie in the sky idea "gun free zones" that weren't worth the paper they were printed on.

Gun control means USE TWO HANDS!

This is real folks!

APRIL 19--So the rapper Cam'ron is appearing on "60 Minutes" this Sunday to explain why he would never help the police, even if they were investigating a serial killer who lived next door to him. The performer (real name: Cameron Giles) believes that his CD sales and popularity would sag if fans saw him aiding law enforcement. But Giles, 31, hasn't always been so down on the fuzz. In fact, New York Police Department records indicate that he cooperated with cops after he was assaulted at a Harlem playground. According to an NYPD report, Giles--who is listed as "compl," or complainant--got into a "verbal dispute" with about 15 black males "while at basketball game" in August 1999. After the perps knocked him to the ground, Giles was kicked in the head and groin. Giles was debriefed by police at Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated and released. The incident report (and an information sheet including a mug shot of Giles) was included in a 500-page rap world dossier compiled by NYPD officials.

(off-topic) Went to 26th and Cal., last Friday and noticed the big divide between us the experienced police with many years and the younger kids! In the past officers were talking to each other and acknowledged each other the "Hair gel police", just were stagnant, like in suspended animation nothing to say! This dept. really is screwed up! since the advent of college the dept, has fallen down , now we have the over educated "I am smarter than you" Jetro Bodines (From the old Beverly Hillbillies show) on the job! Why waste all those years (Of course if Mom and pop are paying why not it is easier to be drunk than work), and then come on this job? What did you study "underwater basket weaving?" I though being in the KMA am happy to see all the young boys and girls feeding my pension fund for that I say THANK YOU! Maybe with time the kids can join tru and really screw up their life with that great schedule! TRU & SOS are recipes for disaster! A bunch of young kids with guns! Be careful!

NYPD sergeants called us 'hos': officers

April 24, 2007
NEW YORK -- Several female police officers on Monday accused sergeants of insulting them by echoing the racially charged remarks that led to the firing of radio host Don Imus.
A sergeant insulted three officers by calling them ''hos'' during a recent roll call at a Brooklyn stationhouse, the women said.

''We felt violated and humiliated,'' Officer Tronnette Jackson said.

Their lawyer said a discrimination complaint was filed in federal court, alleging the sergeant used the term April 15 against Jackson and Karen Nelson, who are black, and Maria Gomez, who is Hispanic.

Another officer chimed in by calling them ''nappy-headed hos,'' said the lawyer.

In separate incident, a narcotics detective said a sergeant told her April 12 not to give him ''lip'' or he'd call her ''a nappy-headed ho. AP

In law enforcement, what good is having bulging muscles and a chiseled physique if you aren't going to use the brawn? You guys sweat for hours in the gym to increase body mass and to get "huge" right? Yesterday in 009 on 49th Pl in the 30 sector a "10-1" was called because the crowds and fighting in the street was pretty intense. Due to the fact that it was exactly at change time, the usual "sea of blue" was non-existent. In fact, the only car that arrived on scene and that quickly left was a dark blue 009 tac unit. The massive tac men did not push back the crowds, nor did they physically man-handle any of the thugs. Something was missing during the hand to hand combat? Oh yes, I remember NOW...the actions of the so-called "tough guys" in 009. The individuals know who they are, so I don't need to name names, but I do ask the above question in reference to them.
You can tell the baddest, toughest and boldest stories of 009 dist heroics in a neighborhood bar, but if you don't get your hands dirty when coppers need you...who the fuck cares?
Luckily for me and K.M the 2nd Watch units started showing up when they did! Steen and Foley...you "old timers" had my back...THANK YOU!
I am used to violent and chaotic situations. I proudly fought in various penetentiaries in IDOC with my fellow correctional officers on the State-Wide SORT unit back in the 90's. In 009, especially on Mids, I have made quite a reputation for backing up my fellow officers when the proverbial "shit hits the fan." People gave me that stupid nickname "Purple Shades", because in you eyes I am different. In Afghanistan, I fought proudly amongst my Coalition Forces comrades against a determined enemy in the mountains. What I am getting at here is that I will fight to the death for my fellow police officers. They instinctively know this in 009. My actions speak for themselves. People tell me I bleed blue.
Don't forget your fellow officers out there. Sometimes, as in the case of yesterday, we ALL need assistance.
Am I bitter? Hell yeah, I am bitter as fuck that I didn't clobber the shitheads even more with my wooden baton than I did! Never let them win in the street. Fight until you can no longer stand it...then fight some more.
All the muscles in the world aren't going to save you...unless you've got HEART!

-Martin Tully 3rd Watch 009

Maybe we need more college, liberal, back-asswards, lovey-dovey, retards to get smoked so they will at least accept the fact that the world has less than desirable creatures in it. That is not to say the world is completely f#cked but truth be told, it ain't perfect either.

Bad poeple prey on good ones and just like in nature, they target the weak and timid. If that doesn't describe every Prof. I ever had in school, nothing does. They live an insulated life on a campus filled with young little minds and hearts that crave knowledge and wisdom. These educators thrive on that power and exploit it to the fullest. When reality rears its ugly head they point their fingers of blame and hide once again.

I served my country honorably only to be publicly assulted in classes because the prof. knew the reality of war and servitude. And of course the little minions followed suit because they knew even less but the Prof spoke and their little sponge minds absorbed every bit of it. Made me want to puke!

You reap what you sow. You made that kid snap and gave him a target rich environment of helpless lemmings to annilate. Shame and blame on you. Teach reality not what you think the world should be. Leave the comforts of your palace and see for yourself how the world works. Then, and only then, can you pass judgement and truly make an educated decission.

My heart goes out to the families of the victims. It also goes out to the kid who lost his way in the middle of mainstream America

"I live in northern New England, which has a very low crime rate, in part because it has a high rate of gun ownership" -Mark Steyn

No doubt there is also likely a high rate of New Englanders who own chinaware but, like gun ownership, has little or nothing to do with the crime rate. There are massive rates of gun ownership in Bogotá and Baghdad but very little security.

Crime rates are intimately tied to levels of poverty and despair. Where there is relative stability (high rates of employment, viable schools, positive outlets for youth, etc) crime rates are negligible. Yes, there will always be anomalies such as what befell the Yale professors and the Virginia Tech tragedy, but the exception certainly does not make the rule.

As to Steyn’s absurd assertion that the Yale professors died due to an excess of “liberalism” well, that’s just another case of neo-con hot air.

Stay safe.

Gun owners are some of the most responsible people I know. I know the Liberals like to portray them as Hicks or Nuts but that is not the case. The problem is in that in our urban areas certain members of society cannot handle the right of gun ownership therefore the liberals, instead of holding certain members of society responsible, want to take away every ones guns. Gun control does not work. Chicago has not allowed handguns since the early 80's. how is that working. That VT shooting was a gun free zone, how did that work. That includes when they stopped a student who was legally qualified to carry his gun not to do so. One Armed citizen could have stopped or lessened the shootings. The liberals will never understand.

Started to post this last night but blogger wasn't takin no comments.

Here's a stat in line with Steyn's column.

Fairfax Co. VA, across the river from DC and Maryland: fewer than 30 homicides per year spread across more than 1 million residents. Gun control: concealed carry.

Gun Free zone VA, in a rural and relatively unpopulated Blacksburg: 32 homicides in one day spread among perhaps 25 thousand or 35 thousand residents. Gun control: gun free.

Generally speaking, pro-concealed-carry VA, except for Democratic Richmond, has a homicide rate probably 15% of DC (where there is, er, was a gun ban), and likely 50% or 60% of Maryland.

Put another way, I tell my Chicago visitors that its okay to drive around without directions in VA. If you get lost, you ain't getting killed.

Something I could never tell a visitor to Chicago, or DC, or NY or any of the other places with gun bans.

SCC,
Here is some fodder for a future blog:

At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in the year 1787, Alexander Tyler aka: Lord Woodhouselee, Alexander Fraser Tytler(a Scottish history professor) had this to say about "The Fall of The Athenian Republic" some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From Bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."

Now, the origins of these words are yet to be proven and the initial reason of it's writing, unproven as well. However, it does give one reason for pause and contemplation. For the way our country is and the outcome of our path in the world, it seems to me that we are somewhere between leaving Complacency to Apathy and Apathy into Dependence.

What do you think?

From A REAL, TRUE CONSERVATIVE here is what I think...

Rudy Guiliana is not America's savior...Rudy is enigmatic of East Coast liberalism run amuck and is nothing more than a moderate to liberal Democrat guised as a Republican for political expediency.

Don't be fooled by a party label. The GOP has not one worthy and truly conservative candidate running for the executive office. Sad but true, McCain,Guiliani and Romney are all liberal pundits in Republican garb. Both parties fail to provide solutions or to even address illegal immigration or the conflict in Iraq.

Demand an alternative or a true conservative, I am going to look at third parties this time around. I want a candidate who is Pro-Life,Pro-Family,Pro-2nd Amendment,conservative fiscally,morally untarnished,intelligent,articulate and worldly. Is there anyone exemplifying these traits in public office within this country????

Remember the highest honor you can bestow upon someone is your vote. You are in essence making them "YOUR" proxy and your emissary. Americans have become disillusioned and politically illiterate, if this trend does not change our "Great Republic" is doomed.

To shutdown the leftist misguided pundits on this blog I have voted for a man of color for the US Presidency, his name was Dr. Alan Keyes. I don't recall any media hooplah when he was a contender. He was black, articulate, educated and intelligent. What makes Obama Barak such a media darling? One thing his unequivocal advocacy of LIBERALISM.
