What's Up With Sergeants?

Seems a bunch of Sergeants from the west side are making headlines:
  • Wednesday from the Tribune: Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon after a fire at an apartment building on Chicago's Lower West Side, authorities said.

The blaze broke out about 12:30 p.m. in a three-story brick building in the 1600 block of West 21st Street in the city's Pilsen neighborhood, Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez said. A CPD Sergeant on viewed the fire and rescued two people from the flames
  • Friday in the Sun Times: A Sergeant and 5 PO's credited with pulling a crash victim out of his burning car seconds before it was completely engulfed by flames
  • Saturday morning from Channel 5: A uniformed police sergeant driving in a marked car saw two armed men forcing another man to lay on the hood of a car in the gas station's parking lot, police said. The alleged victim yelled for help and said the two men were trying to rob him (more coverage at Channel 7 and the Sun Times.) Sergeant shoots the subject twice.
Nice to see some good news making headlines.

Usually heroic police actions take up a small section on page 10 of the local paper but criminal acts by police gain front page and are rarely forgotten.

A rotten apple if not removed quickly spoils the whole crop!!

Its abit of a pun but is the truth.

I visit your site often and we share the same views on almost everything you post on, but i just can't figure out for the life of me why you (now that YOU moderate the comments) allow all these personal attack comments to be posted. I mean how can you let these posts go up that are people slamming other po's b/c of most likely personal differences between them in the past. For instance in the recent thread about the new sgt's. Why allow people to get on there and degrade some of these people. It's just not right. The person can't defend themselves from the attack and a lot of it is probablly untrue anyway.
You seem like such an intelligent person from your postings and well meaning person. Can you please at least consider doing away with all personal slams/comments. That should be done to the persons face or not at all. Thank you and i look forward to a more positive atmosphere when i visit your site in the future.

Ah, what the hell good does the good news do? Make me be a different policeman? The scandals are more fun. Fuck the city. I'll be a cop when the blue shirts band together and truly let the city know their worth. And if the city caves to this pressure, I'll be one of the hardest working police out there. Until then, I look out for number one first. My fellow officers second. Everyone else, fuck off.

I think to often, many good P.O.'s ,Sergeants, Lt's and Captains, are overlooked. Yes we have the idiots out there, they're in every unit, and in every rank, but thank God it's not the norm. Let's face it, unless you come from a police family, most citizens have no idea what our job is about.

As I said before, many of us consider this a vocation, rather than a job. We read and hear about the Weems and Abbates and cringe, because this is not who we are. We aren't perfect, but we're like most responsible adults. We have kids to raise, and bills to pay. To quote Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, "I’m a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf.” (http://www.killology.com/sheep_dog.htm)
We know there is pure evil out there. We know there are true victims,(good, innocent kids being beaten up in parks because they happen to be there enjoying a nice sunny day). What fustrates many of us is the way we're held back from doing our job by the ridiculous and dangerous decisions of a few. Everyday we see real victims calling for our help, and where are we? We're held down, watching the thugs leaving school, emptying onto our streets where they are content to maim and kill each other or other innocents. We see the silliness of countless seatbelt missions. We're forced to respond to or explain why we have an extra pocket on a vest cover or why we're wearing a tie rather than a turtleneck. We're given orders of where to patrol from some desk jockey sitting in their safe cubicle, because the perception downtown is the tact or beat officers don't know where the crime is or who the players are. We see the waste in manpower when sworn and armed officers have jobs of taking kids and/or senior citizens on field trips or are doing a job that 3 other civilian members are doing.
To the Sergeants mentioned in this post and I'm glad you're safe, nice job,and to all of you who never make the news and go about your job day in and day out without the deserved recognition, thank you.

Be Safe

The story about the sgt. and officers pulling the guy from the burning car took up a half page on PAGE 3 of Saturday's sun-times, with a nice picture, too. So much for the whining about the media 'burying' such stories.

It is easy to hide behind anonymous and say all sorts of bad things about other people. If they had any balls they would say it to their face or if their fear of them is too great keep their mouth shut.

Jealousy, thy name is 11:09:00 PM

The Sgts probably responded because an asshat like you was driving 3 mph to get to the fire from the personal that you took 30 minutes on. Or the other Sgt was rolling on his beat and shot the robber while you took 45 minutes to handle a bullshit street disturbance that was a 19B when you got there. And don't talk any shit about how no one could get there because of missions, you can pull off of a mission in an emergency or just about any time you want. They did what they and 90% of the street police gets paid to do and does every day, help people who need help. Quit crying in your beer about merit/not merit or whatever other "problem" you can find to complain about. You are an embarrassment to this profession. Get off the job, you worthless shit.

She never identified what department she worked for and only people familiar with our star would know where she works. She probably would be OK, except for the fact that she's wearing her star and that's a no-no if you don't have official CPD approval.

However, as you know, the rules don't apply to everyone, so I'm guessing nothing is going to happen to her due to the fact that any exempt can download her half-naked pictures onto their desktops.

Not to mean this as a slam on SVU, but I guess she wasn't "all that" if she's in SVU. She must be kin to J. H. in A/4. lol

I couldn't agree more with this post... I think it really crosses the line to allow these reputation-bashing attacks to be posted. I seem to remember SCC, a few months back, making some statement that comments like these would be filtered out. What happened? It's really a shame that this site has lowered itself as to allow personal attacks on fellow police officers simply because they have obtained a promotion. Keep it up, and all SCC will amount to is a cyber-version of the walls in the guys locker room.

Oh my god, would you get off your high horse for a minute. She was having some fun with the WWE for the USA network, big deal! Get a CR number? Get a life, seriously. I guess you would rather see video's of bar fights and mob guys beat up making us look bad than see a nice looking woman having some fun on TV.

I prefer to see a video like that promote a fun, positive image of the CPD, in fact, I wish she was in uniform with the CPD patches in full view.
