Why Don't We Have One of These?

  • (NEW YORK) The search is over for a new Police Academy, and it is going to be spectacular - a 30-acre campus in Queens complete with 250 classrooms, firing ranges, indoor and outdoor tracks, a "tactical village" and a simulated subway station.
The projected price tag is equally breathtaking: $1 billion - and, perhaps, a lot more.
Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly announced yesterday that the current tow pound in College Point had been selected as the site of the new academy, replacing the woefully inadequate Manhattan facility that opened in 1964.
Our current facilities, aside from the new fitness center, seem woefully dated. The range, the plumbing, the gym, the classrooms, etc. You get the idea? Why hasn't someone come up with an idea for a "Police Campus," centrally located, accessible to metro classes, new everything and in some sort of modular fashion so it can be upgraded as technology moves us forward?

Of course, with the new and improved collapsible concrete floors like they've installed at Headquarters, the brand new leaky roofs in each District station recently built, the constantly going off fire alarms, faulty electrical wiring, overhead doors that don't function as designed along with other numerous safety disas.... we mean, "unique features" prevalent in so much City construction, it's amazing that some politically connected big thinker hasn't come up with something.

We need to take over the Brach's compound on Cicero Ave. Plenty of room for everything that will built for NYPD. I can't believe that we have no outdoor range and we have to go to Harvey--Gross. WTF!! The residents from 015 and 011 wouldn't mind the gunfire since it's an everyday occurance anyway. At least there would be parking there too.

The land that the academy sits on now is worth so much that 3 academy buildings could be built from the sales, but I'm sure it would be sold to Richie Rich's friends at pennies on the dollar for a massive profit which Richie will get a cut through "political contributions." It's all legit (wink, wink).

Because its not needed. It a over cost the city can't afford. They should use their money and buy a helium balloon to fly over the city. That old helochopper is worth money on a good trade in for balloons. We could get 25, one for each district.

Hey jag! I dont hear you calling 911 to get me overthere! I work on the west end and it's not my fault nor the 008th districts fault that we only have at the most 2 or 3 cars patroling that west end. Why dont you ask Dana starks! According to HIM we are'nt getting any more officers period in the 008th district and that we should shut up cause it aint gonna happen. Then 2 hours later this ass gets on tv and says that " we are putting more officers on the street to help the citizens"............THERE ARE OFFICERS WORKING THE WEST END YOU ASSHOLE! AND THEY ARE BRINGING IN GOOD SHIT EVERYDAY! YOU DO YOUR PART AND CALL 911 WHEN YOU SEE THE STUFF HAPPENING OR POST IT ON THIS BLOG CAUSE EVERY BIT OF INFO HELPS.
I and we can't be in 6 places at once and you should be bitching to the alderman why our cars get downed and sent over east, not bitching at the guys working the beat. You obviously dont work here and dont know the guys working the west end day in and day out trying to kick the shit out. Do us a favor and move ok or help out like I said above and either call 911, bitch to your alderman like everyone on the east end does or post some helpful info on this site. 008 is'nt the 008 it was 6months ago pal. There are workers here now. You seem to be the 1 scared. Grow some ballz and respond intelligently to this post.

This is the Kingdom of Daley. Of course we dont have one of those and we never will. Good training?

We get what we get.

Next thing you will want is Glocks and guns from Springfield Armory or a raise on the next contract... Cant have that cause we dont have the money but we have the money for the Daleylimpics.

But if we all write our salary in parking tickets and ANOV's we could get a raise?

If you are a normal cop raising a family, as you proclaim yourself to be,

We're as normal as one can be on this job - which is to say "not at all."

how do you have the time to find all of this?

We use this cool little invention Al Gore created in his own backyard using tobacco leaves and powered by his own sense of self-worth. It's called the "Internet" and it's on computers nowadays. It lets us sift through stories from across the globe instantly. You've gotta try it sometime! And who said we were only one person? You think we have the time for this all by our lonesomes?

You post all of the unsubstantiated (bullshit) rumors the media would give their first child for, yet you call yourself a cop.

Here we go with the "you post" bullshit. We don't post it - the readers post it. We merely provide the outlet. This isn't new. The old SCCN Bulletin Board was up back in the late 90's early 00's. And prior to that was the bathroom wall. Thanks to leaps and bounds in technology (and Internet law), we can now bring it to the Department as a whole. However the media or civilians got a hold of this site, it wasn't from us. We are the only people guaranteed to be cops on this site. Anyone else could be posting from one of the six continents we are read on. If the media wants to run with what gets posted here, it's their choice. Besides, loads of this stuff should have been brought to light years ago - three different sets of disciplinary rules, stalker exempts getting jobs back, exempt harems, manpower shortages, outdated and dangerous equipment, etc. The other stuff is just BS and should be taken as such.

At best you are a RAT. Otherwise, I am led to believe you are a member of the police hating media.

At best? Wow. That's all you can come up with? We guess that's still better than being a TOOL. Although we aren't rats, at least a rat can hold it's head up under the guise of having done something right after being caught in the wrong. For a TOOL like you to do their job right, you have to keep your head down - usually attached to someone else's lower extremities (ass or other - whatever your taste).

Nice trying to attach us to the media though. We loath the media as anyone with half a brain can see from reading a month's worth of posts. Go play in traffic troll.

Hey 1:01 I live around 59th Mobile and I agree I see 811 all the time and 851 around the park. If I call for something you guys are always there. I know a little about manpower shortages, in 012 if we are lucky there are 4 people at 2nd watch late roll. And 2 are PPO's. Every dist. is downing cars and wagons. When I first started this job there was 3 wagons on all watches. Every car manned and 2-3 06 cars per watch. It sucks but you do the best you can. We all know nobody in the mindless city hall and 35th st. gives a shit about us. Then when one of us buys it they come out of their holes like roaches and do their fake grieving thing. Stay safe everyone and back each other up.

Other things the 2nd largest police department in the U.S. doesn't have...

1. Traffic Unit: I'm talking one that is eaqual in size to a district. When was the last time you saw traffic enforcement on the Ryan, Ike or Kennedy? Or in your neighborhood?

2. Truck Enforcement Unit: We are a major transportation hub in the U.S.

3. Auto Theft Unit: Some white shirt must have forgotten that criminals steal cars and commit other crimes with these cars.

4. Sex Offender Registery Unit: One that actively locates "non-complaint" offenders.

5. Internet Sex Crime Unit: We might have one, but do they do anything? I hear about CCSPD, LCSPD and other local jurisdictions making arrests, but never Chicago.

6. Aerial Support Unit: Oh, I know we have one, but seriously, one helicopter for a population of 3.5M, that balloons to 5M during business hour. How can Mayberry RFD have 3 helicopters and we have one, that may or may not be operating at this time.

7. Lake Front Summer Detail/Summer Mobile; The lake front during the summertime is equivalant to the the size of Aurora, in population, and has minimal police resources.

8. Transit Police: Once again, one that is equal in size to a district. With 1.6M people utilizing the CTA daily and a target for terrorist, these facilities should be policed 24/7.

I realize that this requires manpower, which we are in dire need of. Add other units/details to the list that we are missing.

Stay safe and buckle up!

The Academy was originally designed to be over twice the size it is and it was to include several training amenities, including a pool. A campus was also in the design. This being Chicago, there were massive cost over runs by the UNION contractors. They had to shrink the facility to be able to afford a finished building.

This city does not want trained police officers. The pwers that be want trained community activists. Shooting? Give me a break. You will never see a real shootinfg facility as long as Daley is in. They do not want you to shoot people. That is why we our training program just, and only just, meets the State standards.

As to the rest, hell all you need is classromms and a gym. We already have that.

And to the person who claims are facilities are so bad and other small departments have better, I have a question: How come the people from all these other high tech marvel departments- including NYPD- want to come and work here? Just curious.

There was banter about 35th St and City Hall to have a Police/Fire campus. They did look at the Brach's site. They also looked at the old Falstaff factory (SE side).
Why is will not come to fruition = The 2016 Olympics!
That is why they are dumping money into the Academy (fixing floors, Fitness Center (would not have happened if not for R. Huberman), etc.
However, I understand that the money that was allocated is running out. And what is done is pretty much done at the Academy.

Too bad that Daley had bigger ideas on what is important for the City of Chicago. As a result we are stuck for another 50yrs. with the present facility.

A combination Police/Fire academy was talked about being built on the far south side by the now closed steel mill. It was to be a complete campus, and most of the bosses from both Departments went out and looked at the site and the plans. It seemed like it was a go.

This was back around 2004. Never heard another word about it until recently, the Alderwoman out that way was bragging about the new residential and shopping area that was going to be built on that land.

Hmmmm.....

Back in the early 70's a proposal was floated for the new academy to be built on what is South Shore Cultural center; ample room for outdoor ranges, driver training, etc, etc. Idea was squashed by the lake front liberals. Hence, we're stuck with what we have. In the 90's planning was underway to build a new academy in SKinner park, adjacent to the existing building. Once real estate prices started to sky rocket areound there, THAT idea fell flat.

THEN given to the CPD for an academy

No heat, no gym, no showers
nothing

The Timmy Oconnor building will be around til it crumbles

Maybe when u do your "driveby" I should do the proper thing and arrest you! You know, agg batt, criminal damage to property. I'm sure I'll get it approved since the ASA's are hell bent in approving agg batt's on P.O.s. lately. Is that the type of service you are looking for? I think not. Like I said earlier, post stuff on the blog, call 911, or even go to 008 and grab someone coming out from 3rd watch and I'll bet my job that someone will help you....not so sure about tact cause they still gotta hang in the doc (not their fault either). Why you ask, do we not have one of these? Because sir, we are not a legitimate Police Department, thats why. This is not directed at the rank and file who go out each day and do thier jobs. It's directed at the system that runs this department. Think about it. In todays world, where it seems that the latest trend is to walk into a school and start killing people, what training have you received in regards to such a scenario? Have you attended any IST for this? Or what about an all out terrorist attack downtown or at any key location in Chicago? Whats the plan and how much training have you receieved for such an event? What about the recruits? How much training have THEY received? Now compare the amount of training you have receieved in regards to those matters with the training you have receieved in CAPS. Or firearms training. Or any other relevant training we have receieved. Get my point? We are not a legitimate Police Deparment and never will be until the "politics" of this job are removed,we are led by a competent PROFESSIONAL command staff and that staff is no longer beholden to the Mayor or some alderscum.
