He is retired from CPD and has been the Chief in Riverside for over ten years.

imo, the best candidates for the position will not apply, because they appreciate the dishonest and farcical nature of the job: dealing with the media, stifling and corrupt micromanagement from city hall, crying and moaning from the politicians, mail-order reverends, and "community groups"; so..instead of drawing a true law enforcement professional with experience, integrity, and independence, what's left is a second or third rate candidate who will bow to city hall and who's ego will be fed by the title and position...

Your only responsibility when hired is not to institute professionalism, moral, or ethics. It is to do what you are told, when you are told, how you are told, where you are told by some one in the Office of the Mayor or the little guy himself. Period. Any one can do that. No education or professional credentials needed.
Oh, and professionalism and ethics start in the beat car, not on a sheepskin.

I am not necessiarly a fan of Bratton, and I don't like what he recently did in L.A., but when the guy was a patrolman in Boston, he was given their highest award for valor. (I think is called the Schroder award) after a copper that was killed by radicals in the 60's. So he wasn't always a paper pusher.

Worth more than 100 of Chicago's exempts together, and the only guy left in any major police department who knows how to get things done. Cry all you want. The days of do-nothing baby boomers and their corrupt clouted incompetent clones are gone. Try pumping 240 rubber bullets into a crowd yourself clown, and see if ANY boss ANYWHERE stands up for you.

He brought Riverside out of the Dark Ages and the attaboys all left. The City could use a Superintendant of his caliber. As far as working in IAD, he tried but the City Politics protected those that should have been brought down. I don't need to explain the political situation as to who controls the Police Department in Chicago and that it is next to impossible to get around that person.

They had Wayne Johnson, CPD detective on leave to work at the Chicago Crime Commission. believing that they were on to something.
Another individual who had knowledge of this investigation was the Commander of Intelligence, William Callahan.
Since then the following has become known:
Ray Risley was in contact with Miedzanowski frequently while he was under investigation.
Wayne Johnson became the Chief of Police in Cicero and when Ed Vrdolyak lost his connections with the town he departed after receiving a settlement to not speak publicly.
William Callahan is in business in Orlando, Florida with the wife of William Daddano Jr.
