More Black Eyes

  • A Chicago police officer was found guilty today of running down a 15-year-old boy with his Cadillac and later claiming the car was stolen.

Cook County Criminal Court Judge Michael Toomin found Charlton McKay, 34, guilty of reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and falsely filing a police report in the death of Edward Lucas.
The article says he's on administrative leave, but earlier reports last week said he had resigned over a year ago.

And now the Jefferson Tap incident reaches its culmination:
  • Six Chicago police officers are accused of beating a group of businessmen at a bar in the Loop. On Tuesday, some of those officers will turn themselves in to face criminal charges.
And if the rumor mill is to be believed, another gun team is about to run into a buzz saw of its own and who knows what the casualty count is going to be on this one or who it's going to take down? Man, we hate this shit.

Accountability

Why are no leaders ever held accountable for the actions of their subordinates and themselves?

We are members of a semi-military organization. In the military they hold the leaders responsible for the actions of their subordinates. Why doesn't the Chicago Police Department follow this standard?

If our leaders had acted quickly and firmly in December we would not being held in contempt again by the public and press.

It is going to get worse before it gets better. There are several major scandals in the hopper. One allegedly involves members of one of the Area Gun teams selling confiscated weapons to FBI informants. That one could get particulary ugly.

We are, are own worst enemies. There is always some officer (off-duty usually) doing some stupid s*&t and gets caught. The rest of us have to take the hit and continue to get more and more mickey mouse BS piled on us from the department. The mayor and media hate us and all we do is give them more ammunition to stick it to us. I love being the Chicago Police. No where but here have I meet some of the finest people on this earth. This stuff going on is not making our hard job any easier.

The best way is to protect youselves, don't do anything F*&k the tact, sos, tru, gunteams etc.. anything that makes you be aggressive forget it!

What do you expect? People cannot behave themselves and refuse to take personal responsibility for their actions. This shit will go on as long as we keep hiring people just because.

As to the Jefferson Tap incident- why didn't the cops arrest the so called businessmen? Oh, they were to drunk to even think of that. They days are long over when you can beat people up and just leave. You lock them up or keep your hands to yourself.

Today's garbage from the Tribune:

The victims in the Jefferson Tap case, four businessmen, were playing pool at the bar at about 3:40 a.m. Dec. 15 when six members of the Harrison Area Gun Team allegedly approached them abruptly and beat them for several minutes.

I was one of those aggressive, gung ho officers that made supervisor. No clout, worked in the worst patrol districts. I always encouraged the PO's to go out, be aggressive and do their jobs. Lock up the bad guys. In all honesty, and in light of our foul media, city and dept administration, I can't honestly push or encourage officers to go the extra mile anymore. The dept the media and the administration has made it their goals to fuck over any and all working police officers. I would almost advocate a total shutdown arrest or enforcement action only when absolutely necessary, except we forget that our co workers, families, friends, and the FEW decent citizens deserve the best protection we can afford them.
If you don't think so, remember Blair Holt. That could have been, and may possibly well be, any of our kids or other family members.
Do the job for yourself, your family, your co workers, and the citizens that appreciate it.

Rather than pray for Charleton McKay, who killed an innocent young kid, and then lied about it, why don't you pray for the victim and his family?

The disciplinary system is badly messed up!!

It went to hell not under Superintendent Cline but rather under Superintendent Hillard.

Superintendent Hillard appointed that braindead, hate everyone, paranoid moron, Nate Gibson, to head the IAD and it all went downhill from there.

I am sickened and disgusted that 3 officers are being charged with felonies over a bar fight. Three lives ruined. I know one of these guys personally and he is a great guy. They should not have been fighting...just like they should not be getting fucking Felonies right now.

I hope and pray that each of you that responds to ANY bar fights from now on seek out the Felony charge that we are being hit with. When Felony review turns it down, please report back here with the name of the ASA that denied the charge. Perhaps contact the ADS on duty for an over ride, see who has balls!

Let's see if the media will report the FACT that ONLY coppers appear to be able to get charged with felonies for bar fights in this shithole City/County.

What about the supervisors from the Cabrini Green Incident from a couple of years agp, when the police had a van pulled over and had to use force to get the driver out of the van - which caused a mini-riot, in Cabrini.
The new C.O. of 018 (S.G.) was the Lt., and in charge of the scene, but he has not served any time.
The other P.O.'s are supposed to serve 1-30 days, for their alleged wrong doings.
What a shame!
How about accountability!

Does the world just evolve around being arrested and the goverment documenting your every move? What ever happened to a barfight,, duke it out, be done with it, have your buddies break it up. A fist here or there, no biggie, just sore egos. There was a time you know that everyone didn't call the police, and only called them for emergencies.
and to 1240 am
You pray for those who make mistakes in life. That's why you pray for PO McKay. The dead one is on to greater plains, and pray for the grief and that the family can find forgiveness. But you pray for the one that made the mistake so they can forgive themselves and God has mercy on them for whatever burden of guilt that they're living with. Being the police doesnt make someone a super being incapable of bad decisions and choices. Police are human believe it or not.
Ok I'm done I'm completely disgusted by this blog today.

Once the Jefferson Bar incident video comes out as well as the facts about the "business man", who has a history of getting drunk and starting fights this case will go nowhere. They are just setting up for a quick payday which the local shitheads already know as the city ATM. These officers are being crucified by the city, the department, and the media. I know the officers and they are all hard working dedicated guys. Meanwhile they have to suffer this horrible ordeal. When has Cook county ever approved felony charges for people fighting? Never! We wouldn't even call them for that. Cook County is back tracking to try and make themselves look legitimate. When we know they are the biggest criminal justice joke in the nation. They will not approve charges on anything unless they feel like its case that can be won without them. Cook county and the department has done a great injustice to these officers. The media, who is supposed to report unbiased news spins the story to attract more viewers and sell more papers. Because the story Bar patrons instigate fight against off duty police officers does not make money. This city and this department deserves where it is headed, right into a cesspool of politically correct blindness where the drug dealers, gangbangers, racial politicians and political hires have all the power. Olympics??? The way the working people of the police department are being treated we will be the homicide capital of the nation because the working police are constantly having the life sucked out of them. As a side note, retire already E. Johnson. Your racist bullshit is getting old. Putting dog ass pieces of shit into spots simply because of their race is doing more harm than you know. Excuse me, you know, you just don't care. Screw the working guy, take care of people simply because of their race. That makes sense. This department and its leadership is pathetic. Too much BS. Here's an idea, promote and give spots in units to people who have earned it with hard work and experience as the POLICE. Clout, racial politics, being the commander's secretary should not be a factor. I know, I know, I'm dreaming. God Bless PJ.

The department needs to start making some sort of peer support group for arrested officers only. since it seems like thats all the city, county and media wants. Unless you have been arrested as the police you have no idea how tramatising and embarrasing it is not to mention the money it coasts for your defense. You really don't know who you should turn to as friends either, because the department shuns other officers from talking to you and this obviously can have grave repercutions. God bless all officers and hopefully you never have to be one of the bullshit political CB#
