Thanks Richie!

We guess when you don't have to actually pay for gas, and probably have NEVER ever paid for gas in your entire life, you don't realize the bite it puts on a household budget.
  • In chicago, where prices are among the nation's highest, prices rose a penny, to a record average of $3.55.

Daley said gasoline taxes pay for needed road repairs. He offered motorists this advice.

"We want more and more people to use public transportation," said Daley. "And maybe this is the year that people realize that -- I don't care where you go -- you need public transportation. You have people driving in-- one in a car-- that really, basically, clogs the expressways. They can only take so much."

Too much of municipal and state budgets are built into projected revenues, so any interruption in that formula would delay projects and programs for politicians. So be it. We'd never expect a democrat to actually reduce taxes. But how about advocating a new refinery or three to increase gas availability? Maybe getting rid of these superfluous EPA blends that limit and just about destroy refinery efficiency for months on end?

Daley is a bully. The city of Chicago Has not built any new expressways or major streets in 53 years, yes boys and girls, your tax dollars are spent for corruption along with making Daleys friends and family richer. Maggie Daley works for a non profit, Yet she took commensuration totaling more then 250,000.Whats up with that.Nepotism is alive within this Family. Each Family member working for the city and Police dept has moved up at a staggering rate, However at the expense of others who paid their dues.

Your are right, the people of Chicago are paying for his private rides around town. Unless you work downtown or like adventures through some of the better neighborhoods, you have to take your own car. What about the little unknown route that our mayor takes from the office to his home, no traffic jams there? It is good to be the King.

Nice try 101. But it isn't Big Oil that isn't building refineries. It's the hodge podge of environmental law and leftist nut jobs that hasn't permitted a new refinery to be built in something like 25 years. And don't even get me started on how much the US would save in oil costs if they'd build 20 or 30 new nuclear reactors to alleviate a shitload of outdated coal burning and oil fired plants in the country.

As a CPD non-exempt I totally agree with you. That is B.S. that you have to take a unpaid holiday while some deputy who has nothing to do with patrol or the D-unit gets a take home car. Take home cars are for those who may be called out anytime. This does not apply to 90 percent of our exempts, aka clout, merit, sucka$$es, etc.

Two years ago, the city and state were pleading poverty. We drove them with gas taxes out of that plight.

Last week, alderman smith said he would write a city resolution saying that the federal government must do something about high gas prices. Now the Mayor says no reduction in city gas tax.

I think there should be a cap on city and state gas taxes. I plan to call my drunk alderman this week, and tell him about the cap. Of course it would be easier to catch him at the irish bar on Lawrence.

Until then I plan to ride my bike when working my regular watch and taking the train/bus to special. I'm not going to worry about how the mayor gets around.

George Ryan is supposed to be out pending appeal but that is forgotten about.
DICK daly is supposed to be the hands on reform Mayor but he denies knowing any thing about any one or any thing to do with corruption at the highest level of the city Government. Luckily he did not have any competition for the mayor race and the voter turnout was the lowest in history.

Maybe we should take a few pages out of the Boston contract or get the Boston FOP to represent us.

Here are some excerpts from the Boston Globe by Matt Viser and Donovan Slack, on 22 Feb 2007.

Boston Police take home city's biggest paychecks as detail work and overtime put 25 over $200,000.

Police in Boston were by far the city's top earners last year, with 25 Police Department employees earning more than $200,000, nearly four times the number who made that amount in 2005, according to city payroll figures released to the Globe.

Police have long been big earners in Boston, where a powerful union and private detail work have helped boost pay. But in 2006, the amounts were higher than in recent years. 1,276 employees, about 41 percent of the force, made $100,000 or more. In 2005, 1,026 employees, about 36 percent of the force, made $100,000 or more.

City officials attributed much of the increase in police pay to increased detail work and overtime, prompting some city watchdogs to say that overtime has prevented the city from making strides toward a larger police force.

"This is one of the reasons why it's difficult for the city of Boston to add more police officers and expand the force, because the position itself is so expensive,"

In 2006, the average uniformed police officer made $113,617, including $35,600 in detail and overtime pay, according to figures provided by city budget officials. Firefighters, on average, made $91,087 in 2006, including about $12,500 in overtime and detail pay.

With the current state of street man power we might as well have a smaller number of sworn police. We would need to replace all of the house mice with civilian clerks.

What have we been doing wrong?!?!

I propose that FOP 7, and PBPA hire a team from the BOSTON POLICE PATROLMEN'S ASSOCIATION to come in and negotiate our next contracts.

If you Google, "Boston Police Union", you will come up with news stories of how they threatened to picket the National Democratic Convention, endorsed George Bush dumped on the Police Commissioner over moving cars.

If our unions can't grow a set of balls, maybe they can at least rent some.

Anyone bitching here about gas and car prices should use public transportation. I work in 019 (days) and I ride the bus to work every day. I drive one day to the station (late evening, on my off day) to drop fresh uniforms in my locker, and bring home the dirty ones. All my work equipment stays in the locker. Never had one problem on the train and bus, and I live in 014. I use my personal car maybe 10 times in a month (grocery shopping, uniform dropoff, LSC meetings at my kid's school). Anyone can find ways to burn less gas. I fill up the tank once every five weeks.

The city and the state both are claiming budget problems. Here is a solution. Both agencies should send notice to anyone on public assistance or attending any public funded education program that begining in 2008, in order to receive any freebies they will have to be subject to random drug test just like we have to pass to retain our employment. I bet the savings would solve a lot of problems.

Gas taxes should by by the gallon not by the sales price since the price flucuates daily.. But this will never happen since they want to take, take and take... I would like to see a reporter do a report on what actually happens to the money from the gas tax... dollar for dollar... for the last few years... Also when you drive through the city... How come on major roads... do the stop lights all work in that when one block is green the next one turns red?? If they worked in order gas would be saved. duh
