Unprepared - Part II

Someone posted the following in the "Unprepared on Purpose" thread somewhere below this one:
  • Well, the average Joe knows now that we're not prepared...Thanks to this stupid ass post and blogsite.
Actually, in a fantasy world opposite of Daley-land, the average Joe being appalled at the state of our unreadiness could be a good thing. Then they could complain, raise a little hell, maybe advocate for more actual hands on training of officers, upgraded weaponry, better equipment, radios, batteries that hold a charge for more than 5 hours, cars with less than 120,000 miles on it, etc.

In reality, we're just screaming into the Internet void. This site isn't going to change much. The powers that be will continue to short change the average street copper in terms of training, continue to steer crooked contracts and land deals to their buddies, continue to promote incompetents based on who knows/blows who.

Until the big one happens and citizens see firsthand how inadequately prepared their public safety personnel (through little fault of their own) were trained and equipped, we will continue to get the short end of the stick. Over and over again.

As to this site being stupid and the referenced post being stupid, stop coming here boss. We're probably screwing up your spot somehow.

where else can we go and speak the truth SCC. Your media is so biased and in love with Richard the Corrupter the honest cops do not have a chance, at least here we can vent. I some times shamefully wish for a mini disaster to let the public see how unprepared we are with equipment and tactical training.

Look at the LA bank robbery several years ago 5 p/os shot. Look at the Miami bank robbery 1986 two FBI agents murdered.

Just look at that bank robbery on 87th and King Drive. Thank God a blue and white didnt catch it in progress. Offenders well armed possibly ceramic bullet proof vests. What would have happenended?

But thankfully the bad dudes got away only one poor citizen died.

How did we respond. The friggin helicopter flew around drowning out the sound off our police radios. The fags from the FBI arrived and then the Ballless Merit CPD three hours after the incident with lights and sirens had the command van make its grand entrance into the paking lot.

The van is a useless piece of shit, I love how all the merits sit in the air conditioning when we are working our balls of at the taste of chicago. Get rid of the piece of shit. Its useless.

Another useless toy like the light truck that the deputies demand we order it to take care of the political hacks who drive it to show activity.

There should be one two man car up in every district with heavy weapons not like out jamokes sitting at Homan square. If I here another remark that Im in swat I want to puke.(JOHNNY COME LATELY)
Hurry up and wait, instead of having them were all the crime is occuring stay safe at homo square.
There should be a heavy weapons vehicle at least in every area but we are not the real police we are the King Richards play police.

Restore the school patrol it is just a matter of time before one of these young savages go after the two coppers at each school.

Every district puts down cars to handle the schools,it is a friggin joke. HIRE PEOPLE KEEP YOUR TRU UNIT MAKE A SCHOOL UNIT OPEN BY BID ONLY SO THE BITCH FEMALES CANT ALL GET THE JOB. Make them show activity.

Sell that piece of shit helicopter, van and light truck
put police back on the street.

The fact that the Chicago Police Department, and the city is willfully unprepared for a terrorist attack has been known throughout the rank and file for a long time. What happened to Homeland Security money that was to be spent for our training and equipment will hopefully be the subject of a federal audit and indictments.

The fact that this knowledge is documented on this blogsite is a good thing. It shows that the Mayor, the Superintendent, all the policy making exempts, the head of OEMC and the Aldermen all know this and have failed to train and equip police officers for what is a foreseeable event. Therefore, they are all accountable for this failure.

There is also the perceived risk that the city will not care for its officers that are sickened or injured in such an attack. Checkout the website, www.wtcsick.com for the horror stories of what has been going on in NYC since 9-11.

When a major attack occurs, (not even "if" anymore), exempts may order officers to enter burning skyscrapers or billowing clouds of poison and powdered glass without protective gear or training. Officers, who have shown courage in performing tasks for which they have been trained and equipped, will refuse such and order and be accused of being cowardly or insubordinate.

In the aftermath of an attack, there will be casualties, lawsuits, hearings and a lot finger pointing. Then we will learn what was meant by the department policy of, "It is not practical to train individual officers to respond to a terrorist attack."

whent the big one happens we will lose more than nypd... we will also address civil disorder to such a magnitude that the back bone of police deparment aka the patrol divison will collapse....

But we need to do these missions. In 025 all the 1800 cars are always down on missions.(seatbelt, curfew, etc.) If one of those cars makes an arrest they all go down on it. 8 guys on a 1 head arrest? We shall see how things will change when their sgt. is forced off the job next year. His days of covering them will be over.

My question to the original commenter: Exactly how is it better for the "average Joe" to think the city IS prepared for any kind of disaster? If I did not have family and friends in CFD and CPD with the real story, I would be one of the happy idiots too. Wouldn't you think that a city the size of Chicago would actually be state of the art in training and technology, just like Daley wants us to believe. Joke is on who?

OEMC, the real catchall for the homeland security money in this town, is also a joke. Kudos to this site for exposing the scam that is "Homeland Security" here. To date that agency has received millions and millions of dollars, none of which has actually flowed to 911 personnel, equipment, or training. The tragic fire at 69 W Washington (not even terrorist related) which claimed 6 lives is one example of how ill prepared these agencies are in terms of intercommunication, interoperability, and defective flawed processes which could not even pinpoint nor assist people in evacuation and rescue. If the unions and the media had any stones, THATS where they would be focusing their investigations. To all the CPD, CFD, and OEMC keep up the good work: we know there are plenty of good ones out there.

Having worked midnights for years, I will disagree with you about the LIGHT TRUCK. It has been a good thing to have on large all night crime scenes and body recovery jobs. Remember our issue flashlights will not last more than a couple of hours.

You are such an angry person, you bitch about the helicopter? guess what, they make noise, sorry it's not blue thunder in whisper mode, people bitched for years we didn't have one, now we have two and in typical CPD fashion, a reason to bitch about them is found; sense when did anyone ever work their ass off at taste of chicago? they are in rented trailers with air, it's 80-90 degrees, what do you expect?
I agree we should have heavy weapons cars in all districts but don't bitch about the SOS SORT cars, they are on the street all the time, not sitting in Homan, I don't know where you work but they have backed us on numerous shots fired, men with gun calls, it's comforting to see them with their rifles and a huge deterrent to the crowd as well.
The light truck is great at police shootings at night etc but that's about all on that.
Restore the school patrol? that was a joke unit anyway, nothing but old useless broads who called district cars for everything anyway, good riddance, most of the people who left work the schools from the districts anyway.
I also agree we could use more bodies but more effective would be for the bodies we have to all pull their weight.... stay safe....

Found something interesting on the I-CLEAR main page in the left column...a 2 phase evacuation plan for the Loop. I didn't even KNOW an evacuation plan existed for the Loop. This one has a cover from Public Transportation; maybe it's thiers and they don't share.

Every major police department has a mobile command truck and air assets (helicopters) Anyone that dosent like the slicks in the air havent had to use it late at night when it lights up an entire block. Its not the equiptment its the people running the equiptment. We need better bosses, better guidence and better training everything we dont have.

As for the SORT cars sitting at Homan Square doing nothing, no sir you are wrong. The SORT cars are out everyday all over the city they dont return to homan square until the shift is over and in major incidents they respond to the scene. No we dont have enough heavy guns cars or manpower thats the fault of the city. We do however have an ass load of units that all do the same job, have no specialized training and deplete the districts of manpower. It is in no way fair that the individuals that will be the first to respond to any incident are the worst maintained, and most undermanned. The people in charge have no damn clue what they are doing, and when the shit hits the fan and a bunch of 99 cars on days respond to a mass casuality incident and become casualities themselves, when the leadership gets scared, shits on itself and then folds under the pressure the public then will understand the meaning behind the phrase "everyman for himself". God bless the districts they are in the immediate line of fire

One of our district bosses asked one of our highest ranking exempts at a rollcall why don't we have a show and tell of these SORT CARS.
Let us know what they have and what they can do and how would we work with them in a major emergency.

The exempt, made it sound like this was dangerous for us lowly district people to know about this "elite" unit.

Don't you think the public deserves to know that thier police department isn't prepared for an emergency? Hey media, where are you on this?We haven't had any training, none, nothing, not one iota, nada, you get the picture?I pay a hell of a lot of federal tax and I would like to see a return on that tax in the form of training and equipment.I don't know how much money this city gets from the feds but I know they get something and it's supposed to go for our training, well where is it?

Yea Im angry asswipe. The helicopter should have been up and flying before the robbery looking out for the get away car not flying circles around a bank, thirty minutes after the incident. On real police departments the helicopter is in the air always not after the fact.

I work in zone eight I have never seen a sort car except after the hostage situation on Thanksgiving.
And I regret if I offended any one on sort or swat, but we have no help in 004 or 006.

We could certaily use them as CVS and SIMEON, in terror town (79th)

As far as working at the Taste yes we did no time on the job, and we were not given paid over time. We have had people shot at the fountain, people robbed by the pick pockets, gang members and squad cars damaged with broken windows smashed out. No time on the job we even had a fool crawl into the portapotty. We were placed all over the midway.

Yes Im angry at the foolishness of this department. Ass wipe I do not want a helicopter after the fact, we have gotten by since 1970 without one (give me cops)we lived with out a light truck give me more police not frills. I hate to say but the schools are out of control son it is just a matter of time before one of our guys get hurt at one of these high schools.

mad as hell with 26 years and three years short of fifty.
