Become a Victim - Surrender Your Gun

  • The city's holding the third gun turn-in event at 23 different locations around Chicago, this Saturday, July 21.

People who give up their guns will get a pre-paid debit card worth $100. No questions asked

  • Extra Chicago Police patrolled a tense Scottsdale neighborhood Monday following a series of violent incidents that culminated with the savage beating of a 16-year-old boy in Durkin Park on the Southwest Side over the weekend.
  • Neighbors expressed frustration that someone had to be beaten for the neighborhood to get police attention.
  • "Parents are talking about taking things into their own hands," he added. "If police can't help us, we'll do what we can to protect our kids."
The thing is, it'd be easier to defend yourself and your kids if you had ... um, you know... a few guns. Especially as OEMC isn't dispatching the jobs to shorthanded district cars. Welcome to the future of Chicago.

Chicago is turning into one of those futuristic Mel Gibson movies where anarchy rules and only the armed and strong survive.

I've got a Zip-Loc bag around here somewhere with all the parts of cheap Spanish .32 acp. Dad had the parts sandblasted years ago and gave them to me thinking I'd build a gun out of them, but seriously--sandblasted pot metal.

Ya think they'd give me $100 for it? It'll cost me that much in gas to drive up there and back, but I have relatives in the area.

I do look forward to the peace and quiet of gun-free Chicago, though.

Anyone who turns in a gun is no longer a citizen...they are now a subject.

I thought gun control has been working?

ITs been over 40 yrs since the first registration laws in Chicago. Plus the FOID for 40 years in 08.

I have one of the first Chicago registered guns in Chicago, from 68.

I always get a kick out of this letter. The old man was promising less crime with this.

There is no reason for a person to own more than 3 guns. Gun collecting? Try stamps or coins. Military style weapons? Forget about them.

still "NO" manpower in 004th district. still "NOTHING" done about it. I called 911 3 times the other night about a gang fight and after standing outside waiting for an hour, no police showed up.

i don't blame the police, i blame the manpower shortage. my beat car is downed on midnights all the time and on days and afternoons, they are always pulled out of the sector for the backlogs.

I imagine most of the weapons turned in will be junk. I'm considering turning in a piece of crud Lorcin .380 but I'd have to bring it back into the City and also I don't want to give these guys the support...even for $100.

I did call ISP to ask them about my legal responsibilities in transferring my firearm(s) in this instance. Turns out this "isn't really a firearm transfer" because the police are "removing the guns from circulation."

So no 24/72 hr waiting period, though apparently surrenderers will be given some kind of receipt which I presume they must keep for 10 years.

I assume also that the collector will either be LEOs or have FOIDs and not be buying these for someone else. Hate to have straw purchases going on.

I also guess that some of these could be crime guns...would this be destruction of evidence?

Daley's speech on the news today was a joke. He is such an ass.

Yeah guns kill people. So do cars, trains, being fat and eatn McDonals but Daley fails to realize the real problem is the savage that pulls the trigger. Badguys will ALWAYS be able to obtain guns, no matter how strict you make gun laws. How about waking the fuck up and start convicting all these criminals and start giving the proper sentencing. This city sucks, the Mayor sucks and the Crook County Judicial System sucks.

Did ya notice how far northwest the farthest northwest turn in place is? 23 total churches, 7 on the "north" side. 2300 West is as far west as anything goes...

Hmmmmm....Hey, Mary Mitchell-- got anything to say about locations?

"Anyone can turn in a gun Saturday in exchange for a $100 debit card at 23 participating churches all over the city, said Glen Brooks, CAPS coordinator. In planning this event, we [wanted] to reach every segment of the city"

Yeh right....

I've got at least TWENTY more than three, including plenty of "military styled weapons".

What are you going to do about it?

Not a damned thing.

Another know-nothing spouting off here. All "military style" really means is that the product has been designed to meet certain minimim standards of quality, reliability, design and function.

Thats a GOOD thing, in case you haven't figured it out
