The FOP Speaks

  • Police union officials say a five-year prison term handed down last week in Iowa to a Chicago Police officer was "an unjust sentence" that "smells."

Michael Mette, 30, was found guilty of assault with serious injury. He was off duty visiting his younger brother at the University of Dubuque in 2005 when he got into a fight with Jake Gothard, who was hospitalized for head injuries.

Just keeping this in the front of everyone's minds. Keep on helping out, writing letters, donations, forwarding Mette's plight to sympathetic media outlets.

WOW! an un-named FOP official can now be given the title of Master of the Obvious.

This is just truely amazing to me. How is it that the FOP has been silent for 2 years on this issue.

I have sent some email and sent some money, and feel sick to my stomach at the deafening silence coming from 35th Street.

"smells" they had to wait for John Kass to start the ball?

Real standup union that the FOP is,respond when the media leads you by the hand.

I know one thing, the current FOP officers will not survive the next election if it is not merged into the PBPA first.

The FOP sucks. They stated to the membership they would be at roll calls. They have decided not to come to roll calls without letting the membershep know. I never saw it the newsletter, that members of the Bd. of Dirs. decided to stop hitting roll calls.

I emailed every single representative on the FOP website asking what the FOP would do to help one of our brother in serious trouble. You know what I got, 2 emails back telling me it would be looked into and that Mark Douchebag would be making a statement on behalf of the FOP. You you what we get, a fucking 2 paragraph press release on the FOP website. Who in the hell is going to read the FOP website other than POs? Sweet Jesus we pay these people how much money and this is all we get. BTW I emailed all 15 members and only received 2 responses. Pathetic

FOP? Who the fuck are they? I never see them. I never hear them. Is the FOP the detail unit that carries Daley's golf bag for him?

To all you fucking morons that voted straight ticket some 8 years ago...this is what you deserve. You voted the entire citywide team in and gave them complete control. The only thing that changed was the Bill Nolan, a truly haggard looking fellow, was replaced by Mark Donahue, a more polished looking fellow. The results are the same.

I sent an E Mail to both Sean Hannity, & Bill O'Reilly concerning this issue. In my E Mail I gave both of them the FOP phone # and Mr Donahue's name so they can reach him for his comment regarding officers Matte. Maybe they can light a fire under his ass!

I cannot wait to get my next F.O.P. Newsletter to read about the Gold Star Families, Golf Outting, Picnic, and the sale at the F.O.P. gift shop. Also about what F.O.P. is doing for the retirees. F.O.P. sucks.

Just curious. Is there any way we can get ourselves out of the f.o.p.? What other unions are out there for us to go? Are those unions any better? If so many people are upset with the f.o.p. then why can't we(CPD) leave the f.o.p. for something better? Just asking. Stay safe everybody

For the person who said he is tired of hearing what the FOP is doing for retirees I would ask"what do you think they are doing for retirees?".As a retiree I can tell you that they don't do much.Every year the city gives you a raise in Jan. and takes some back in Feb.for increased insurance premiums. The FOP said that this is a good deal and they are going to continue ro get us this deal until 2013 when the city will stop with retirees insurance. Now THAT'S a great deal. Thanks FOP.I would advise all you young guys to remember you too will be in this position one day!

The real issue here is Mike Mette, not the FOP. I sent $100 to this fellow officer. If I was a millionare, I would pick up the entire tab for his defense. So help this guy, leave your postings go for a short time, get the check book out and send what you can. You won't miss the $$$. Actually, you just might feel like a better person.

Guys, this has morphed into an FOP bash. Let's get back to the original intent here. Let's help this poor guy. He has been thrown under the bus/ Get together with the guys on your watch. Start a collection. Deposit the money into the fund. He's gonna need it. Appellate Court attorneys aint cheap. his appeal is gonna be in the 6 figure range. If each District can come up with 500 bucks, that's 12,500 for starters and then there are the units...... We can easily get together 30 or 40 G to help.

We need the National FOP involved in this immediately, if not sooner, if they aren't already, which they should be, and if not, WHY?.Get an answer for us Donohue..
