Cops Shoot, Kill Armed Offender

But no marches? There aren't any vice lords on the south side to organize a protest?
  • Chicago Police fatally shot a 22-year-old man who allegedly charged a police officer with a gun early Wednesday in the South Side’s Gresham neighborhood.

A Gresham District police officer shot the man, identified as Johnny Goodwin by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, about 12:15 a.m. at 8147 S. Morgan St., according to police News Affairs Deputy Director Pat Camden. Goodwin’s home address and pronouncement information were not available at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

As of the 10pm newscasts, the shooting had been ruled justified.

Sorry this wasn't up earlier, but as we've explained before - we post once a day, usually around midnight. Between midnights, we work, attend court, go to CAPS meetings, have family time, etc. If the wireless connection is up, we can post from the car. Sometimes though, we just can't get to it as quick as we'd like to.

UPDATE: And here comes the "He didn't have a gun" bullshit drama:
  • But just a few blocks away, at 83rd and Morgan in the Auburn community, Goodwin's mother stood in her doorway, leaning on the doorjamb for support. Janet Goodwin said her son did not carry a gun or keep one in their home -- and cops had no reason to shoot him.

Her reaction echoed comments from relatives and neighbors of Aaron Harrison, an 18-year-old who was shot and killed by Chicago Police two weeks ago.

"I know he didn't have a gun,'' Janet Goodwin said. "He was the type to fight with fists.''

You know, we're seriously considering applying for full duty disability because of all the back problems we're having from carrying around all these damn guns we have to plant on dead gangbangers. And the pounds and pounds of narcotics, too. Ever since the Department took away the SUV's, we've had to carry so much of this stuff in our personal cars, it's starting to affect the gas mileage.

I was sickened two things today:

1) Did anyone have to sign for that Total Compensation form given by the City? It is so strange that we get stuff like that when we are without a contract. And the city adds all the supposed extra perks they give us, WELL my Total Compensation was not even close to what I deserved for putting up with the shit I have seen and heard on this job this year.

2) Did anyone catch WGN's newscast on that asshole killed in 004? That little fruitcake Juan Carlos FagHOLE made it seem like the police did something wrong. There were a lot of statements like "police allege."

Can we do something right in the eyes of the Chicago media? If you don't catch the guy with a gun and he kills someone then we are at fault, if we shoot the guy then the media makes us out to be the bad guys.

Juan Carlos FAGhole also had to mention that asshole on the southside was also shot in the back. Would someone please educate the media that an armed offender can be shot in the back. It is completely within the use of force guidelines. We would want that armed offender discharging his firearm and hurting innocent civilians on the West or Southsides.

Yes I'm new to Chicago but i found this blogspot rather quick.

I call the US Attorney's Office to hold an investigation into this young man's life. These cops gunned down a young man in the prime of his career criminal life. Yes, he had a Kennedy King College ID but he only went there for one semester. Instead he chose the life of criminal behavior. Just think of all the plasma TVs that his momma would have if he wasnt gunned down by these vicious polices.

I personally hold Mayor Daley responsible and will be filing a lawsuit on his mother's behalf. Yes, the little guy was gonna turn his gun into the City's "gun turn in" but felt that $100 was not enough. He felt that it was worth over $500 and therefore kept it. I therby profusely blame the mayor of this city as the main factor in my client becoming an alleged homicide offender.

And by the way, I know i'm new to this city...but i'm a reverend...a man of the cloth. So what i speak is the truth. And nobody can refute that or you'll lose votes with my black following.

Yes, many honest hard-working Americans may be jealous of the fact that i haven't worked a day in my life...but God is my work.

PS. Sorry about Tawana Brawley. My bad.

Go Jesse!! BTW..my son needs a Budweiser distributor in NYC. Can you help?

This just in by Mayor Daley. G.O. 07-083---

Chicago is a sanctuary city!! Any crime is ignored if the offender is hiding in safehouse. A safehouse can be a church, house, apartment, doghouse, under a porch, in a vehicle, in a school, in Lake Michigan, in any private location, or any public way.

Under no circumstances are anyone to be placed under arrest in the "sanctuary". Especially if they are convicted felons with arrest warrants.

Pleae be aggressive in arresting these fugitives when they are outside of the sanctuary. (Wherever that is).

Ex-Sup Cline just stated that all districts will have missions daily in the area that is not in the sanctuary (wherever that may be)

Good Luck

The media is reporting most police shootings are with the "victims" are shot in the back. The victim/offender therefore was NOT a threat to the officer.

Those of you who condemn Michael Vick are racists. Just as bullfighting is a national sport in Spain and Mexico, dog fighting has always been part of the African-American culture in our nation.

If Mike was Peyton Manning, it wouldn't even make the news.

Cut Brother Vick some slack.

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury defended Michael Vick, calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting.

Marbury spoke Monday about the federal dogfighting conspiracy charges against Vick while promoting his basketball shoe in Albany, N.Y.

"I think it's tough," Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9. "I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."

at least NJ has some balls:

"Attorney General Anne Milgram today ordered all local police officers in New Jersey to inquire about the immigration status of suspects charged with serious crimes, and to notify federal immigration authorities if there is reason to believe the suspect is in the country illegally.

The requirements, which go into effect immediately, apply to suspects arrested for specific indictable offenses and for driving while intoxicated, Milgram said. If the suspect is unable to prove he or she is legally in the United States, the police officer is required to notify Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, she said. The policy also specifies that prosecutors and courts be notified."

The news media should stop interviewing these parents, who apparently don't know about the enterprising young (and unsuccessful, I should add) criminals they have in their homes.
It gets tiresome, hearing people who apparently don't have a clue about their child's extensive arrest history swear on a stack of bibles that THEIR BABY "never had a gun."

-----------------------

I hear this BS from time to time.

Hey, this is how PO's train. To end the threat by using force to center mass.

If this guy was aiming a gun at your child or yourself, do you want me to shoot him in the leg, and then he shoots both of you dead, or shoot the guy in the chest and he falls?

Once deadly force is used its not play lets wound because the person is still a danger.

I say that we start giving the parents of these "so-called" choir boy copies of their arrest records. At least that way, we have lifted any veil of secrecy their delinquent kids use and remove any doubt from the minds of the parents.

Why can't you officers shoot for the legs?
--------------------------------
Assuming for argument's sake, it's a good shoot, why would you want a cop to shoot at a small, moving target, probably missing, and hitting a REAL honor student accidentally?

Of course what makes you think somebody can't die of shock or blood loss from being shot in the legs?

Given that the purpose of shooting the person AT ALL was to stop him from shooting the officer or anyone else, how does shooting him in the legs accomplish that?

Lethal force is lethal force. Shooting anyone ANYWHERE is lethal force. If they're not dangerous enough to kill, they weren't dangerous enough to shoot in the first place.

If somebody makes himself enough of a danger to the officer and or the public at large to shoot, the only appropriate place to shoot them is center of mass.

The answer to allegedly bad shoots isn't negligent and irresponsible tactics.

The other day I stopped a 22 year old afro american in the westside who I thought had just finished performing a hand to hand transaction. Upon conducting my field interview and requesting ID,I noticed a link card with his ID. I asked him what the heck was he doing with a link card? he related to me that he was disabled and couldnt work and proceeded to show me a bullet wound to his leg. I told him that maybe he couldnt perform heavy mannual work but was fit enough to work at a fast food restaurant, he became insulted and said "fuck that" they dont pay enough and that he likes getting free money and if I could get free money I would. I informed him that I wasnt raised that way and would work any job I could find. This young man was all cut up with muscles and I asked him does his disability hammper him from handling himself on the street and he stated hell no.Then I played reverse psychology and asked him if he was a wealthy rapper with millions and he had to pay for everything for me because I like free money and didnt want to work, would he like paying for me knowing I could work and he stated he would not like having to pay for my every need.
This conversation really pissed me off for the rest of the day knowing that my already high taxes are going to be raised to give this POS as he stated FREE MONEY. Also who are these social workers that authorize benefits to this 22 year old fit young man? and why is he still recieving FREE MONEY when he is on parole delivery?
Sorry guys this really pissed me off and sorry for the rant.
