How Much is Left?

Once again, proving that government should keep it's fingers out of what should be the purview of business:
  • Rising costs, declining demand and increased competition from private Internet providers have prompted Chicago to shelve its ambitious plan to build an $18.5 million wireless Internet access system with a reach that extends into the city’s poorest communities.
Just an observation, but if the poorest communities can afford computers? Then they really aren't that poor.

And where is what's left of that $18.5 million headed?

It's not a bad idea to have a wireless access city if the corporation finances it.

Bush Warns US Will Confront 'Nuclear Iran'
"George Bush has warned that letting Iran acquire nuclear weapons risked putting the Middle East "under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust
"Mr Ahmadinejad also said that "Iran is a nuclear Iran"...

Iran has also announced today that they are ready to fill the power vacuum that is coming in Iraq. This means that they do not care that we are there and that they are preparing to fight. They are waiting for us to attack so they can go into Iraq and we are waiting for them to go into Iraq in order to justify strategic miliraty airstrikes and cruise launches.

It is a chess game that has the Soviet Union again on alert and Pakistan ready to arm terrorists with nucklear weapons and India renewing relations with the US. It is coming. The last piece is France and the statement that a bombing capaign may be needed. this is not the ushering of the NWO, but the preparation for the last world war.

How about a blog on this SCC?

US purchased 190 thousand guns to arm Iraqi security forces went “missing”!

GOA report to Congressional Committees stresses that DOD can not guarantee that US funded weapons reach Iraqi security forces.

Here’s the bottom line on this particular mess;

110 thousand AK-47s and 80 thousand pistols purchased with US tax payers money in order to arm Iraqi security forces are simply “unaccounted” for by US Army.

Also, 135 thousand body armor vests, and 115 thousand helmets are also “missing”.

October 2006 Congress report stated that in 2003, 14 thousand firearms went “missing” in Iraq.

It also has to be mentioned, that out of more then 370 thousand guns US provided to Iraqi forces, serial numbers of only 10 thousand were registered by Pentagon, thus automatically leaving 360 thousand as unaccounted for.

That by effect allows Iraqi forces to use their US issue weapons against US forces with out any accountability, specifically because serial numbers of their weapons are not registered.

The rearming of Iraqi security forces contract topped $22 billion dollars by the way, while leaving the overwhelming majority of the firearms simply unaccounted for.

Does anyone see a coming market crash? 30% correction?

Maybe time to reallocate the portfolio?

Does anyone really believe that people in Section 8, CHA, Bickerdikes, etc., all have computers with wireless access? I'm as conservative as the next guy, but it's ridiculous to think that "the poorest of the poor" were set to benefit from this plan.

This is clearly a case of behind-the-scenes maneuvering by SBC and Comcast to keep rates jacked up. The "free market" is not nearly as free as we might like to think.

Lots of poor people have computers. Kids still need them to complete homework assignments on, SCC. And you can pick up a decent used one in a variety of secondhand stores and computer repair shops for under $300.00, including a printer.
Computers aren't an "option" anymore for students, SCC. Just thought you'd want to know. Thank God just about every officer I know has at least one computer in their home. SCC, you need to show a little class on this one. Lots of kids have homework assignments that will require them to acquire some info on their topic through the internet; anyone who is actually INVOLVED in their kid's homework completion projects will know this. Not everyone uses it to watch porn, or to read the mindless crap that frequently shows up here.

I am glad to see a few corporations are finally wising up to Daleys strong arm tactics. Daley wanted the carried to full pay for the installation and maintance of this system with no money from the city. They would then be forced to provide the coverage at a reduced rate so everyone would be able to get the internet.

What the fuck is going on in todays society in that politicans think that everyone one deserves eveything!

When I grew up and my parents before me, if you wanted something you worked saved money and paid for it. Plain and simple

WTF is with the "School Starts September 4th Brought to you by Jewel Food Stores" signs on EVERY CORNER in 003/006? 4 Signs per corner too. I thought I was unaware of an upcoming election! Why don't they put signs like "The sky is blue" and "Grass is green" out while they're at it! I have a kid and I don't need JEWEL to tell me when my kid goes back to school. It's MY KID - MY RESPONSIBILITY. Oh wait, I think I just used a word that fewer and fewer people really understand. Those signs are an embarrassment. Funny didn't see ANY west of Western.

Yes, the market will take a major fall; as will real estate. In two years, today will be remembered the 'good old days'.

Real estate values in the north shore are ready to plummet 15%; and that's just the beginning. Believe me now and trust me later when I tell you to get out of the bars and into the gyms. The future is bleak for this economy and the challenege will fall to the guys in blue. Take extra firearms training, learn how to box, learn how to run, because there's going to be a boatload of angry unemployed middle class people out there who are going to want to vent against their government. Unfortunately, we're the firstline of government.....Man-o-man, are we screwed!

I've seen those signs, too. Nothing seen in my neighborhood. I can't believe the school board strong-armed Jewel (kickbacks?) in producing these signs. Why do we need a grocer to remind us to send our kids to school? Stop placating to the never-ending irresponsibility of the down-trodden ghetto folk. You have kids, you send them to school when they have school. Plain and simple.Time for the poor (especially those who continually have their hands out)to grow up.

AT LAST A REAL FIGURE:

The Policemen's Annuity & Benefit Fund (Your pension) sent out their annual report today.

There are 13,749 members paying into the CPD pension fund.

End of argument as to how many officers are employed by the CPD!

13,749 members paying into the pension fund does not translate into that same number working the streets and you know it, now go back to your precious calculator and figure out how many street coppers we have.Desk jobs and medical abusers don't count.Statistics can mean whatever you want them to mean and I'm calling you out on this one.Get it right or get lost, we are short.
